You can call it what you want, but it is different. Not saying that it is a bad thing, but Fusion is more mission based. You have to take out this, stop that, defeat that guy, get a power up. Super is get power-up, find new are, get power-up, find new area, etc. The structure of the game is totally different. And Adam stops your exploring, by locking doors and stuff, only near the end can you freely explore.
Zero is probably the best designed metroid ever. GG you say it is focussed and you are right, but you do not have to follow the Chozo statues direction. You can go entirely different directions if you want to. It is possible to defeat Ridley, before you defeat Kraid. The ammount of different paths you can take is mind boggling. And the game is designed for that, because you get an extra ending for collecting only 15% of the items. This is only possible is you take the alternative routes.
Super is still my favorite 2D Metroid, because you can sequence break alot, you have the coolest power-ups. The secret moves, best bosses, biggest and coolest levels, the beginning and the awesome ending. Closely followed by Zero mission and behind that Fusion. Metroid 2 is further behind and the original has not aged well.
And yet Samus is in your sig?
Fusion is strange in that design wise I would probably put it above Zero mission but it's purple and grey visuals coupled with some really tough difficulty in parts make it less enjoyable than zero mission. ZM has that classic atmosphere about it too. I don't really love the unfocused nature of Super metroid. I lose motivation just trawling through the environments a lot. Still they all feel broadly the same to me.
I think i too love the GBA metroids (which i find perfect except for being too short) more than Super, which is still awesome played on VC, but i guess i just had to be there at the time. i think they are more distinct in design than the castlevania games even though the basic gameplay in them is the same.
metroid 2 was an excellend gameboy game in its day but it now feels cumbersome ... and i'm too old for map memorisation.

The feel the same, because the control more and less the same. In that way they are the same, but they are not clones of each other either. There are all distinct from one and other. Another thing I like about Fusion is the SA-X. Usually in Metroid you are the biggest meanest thing around, but not in Fusion. SA-X sections are the first time ever you are forced to run way in a Metroid game. SA-X is a scary mofo.
I also liked the advertiments of the game: "Evil returns with a new face, this time it is your own"
Wow, check out this commercial.
Well the next Metroid (metroid 5) should have an interesting story!
the running and hiding sections were pretty tense. the actual battle with the SA-X could use being a little harder in my opinion.
the SA-X was way cooler than Dark Samus in Prime for some reason.

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
The reason is that you always fought Dark Samus on equal footing. In Prime 2 you kicked her/it arse 3 times. The first time you meet SA-X you can't even touch it. The battle itself is not as cool, because SA-X looses its aura of invisibility and they handle it like all the other bosses. Where is SA-Xs power-bomb, speed booster, wall jumping etc. They could have done a lot more.
Dark Samus is Prime 3 is a bitch though. The final battle on hyper difficulty is hard!
So hard that that's where I stopped playing the game on that difficulty at! Fuckin' phazon!
Now THIS is real gaming music.
One of the site's forefathers.
While we are on the subject of music and metroid, check this out!
A site where you can download free Metroid Prime 3 music. Do not worry about the legality, because the Prime 3 soundtrack is never released on CD!
Download the awesomeness that is the Runda theme.
Find it here!
Zero Mission is great, the best 2D Metroid behind Super but its still behind Super. I am with Iga, Super Metroid does everything so well.
A crap ton of Little Big Planet reviews:

have had the finished game in my hands for just over 24 hours. So what do I make of it?
LBP is unquestionably one of the best titles of this year, or any year. Media Molecule should be praised for delivering on virtally every promise they have made over the last 18 months.
It is a terrific platform game, with an abundance of creativity, fun and character. It's up there with some of the best platform titles ever made, include Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 64.
CVG - http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=199300 9.6/10

Gameplayer - http://gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/LittleBigPlanet-Review.aspx 10/10
Bottomline, its amazing, its easily going to be right up there with GTAIV as the highest rated game of the year.
Has anyone done a LBP metroid level?
I didn't see one in the beta but its bound to happen.
Yeah, if Zero had some more cool bosses, cooler moves (grapling beam and all the secret moves) and a ending as cool as Super, that it would have been easily better than Super. I like Super Metroid the best, but the game is not unbeatable. I want Metroid 5, I think the Fedaration is going after Samus. Very interesting that would be, and please no more Ridley. He was in more games than the freaking metroids. The games should almost be called: Ridley, Ridley 2, Super Ridley, Ridley Prime
Super Metroid is my favorite Metroid game ever.
Anyone play Jumping Flash on PS1? I just watched this video review on Youtube, and the game looks pretty weird and interesting.
is it the one with that giant mechanical bunny firing lazer beams?

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
Yes, I remember this game. It was the first 3d platformer. It even predates Mario 64.
Yeah I have it on my PS3, I played it way back when and wanted to try it again. Its not that good now but its still an interesting FP platformer.
I just looked on IGN for a review for Jumping Flash, and they gave it a 7.5 back in the day. They also reviewed Jumping Flash 2 which got an 8.0 score. Too bad these games are PS1-only because I'd like to play one of them to see how it is. My interest has been piqued. Hmm, I wonder how cheap PS1 consoles are today.
On a side note, It's funnly to see just how short IGN videogame review were back in 1996. This is their entire Jumping Flash review:
"November 25, 1996 - Woo hoo! What a great game! Sorry, it's just hard to compose yourself when talking about a game such as Jumping Flash! That exclamation point's not just for show, buddy. This is one slam-bang great game.
You are Robbit, a giant meachanical bunny who bounces his way through beautiful, floating 3-D worlds. The big surprise here, though, is it's a first person shooter as well. And since you're a rabbit, you know you get to hop! Hopping is, in fact, an integral part of the gameplay, as the objects of your search - missing "jetpods" - are placed willy-nilly around the world and its many smaller floating islands. The worlds are populated with goofy enemies (like big birds and odd giraffe things) that really just annoy you more than anything, but hey! it sure is fun to jump on their heads!
There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Jumping Flash! is a great, genre-pushing game. It does tend to be a little easy at some points, and the worlds are a little small, but these are minor drawbacks. If you own a PSX, no, scratch that, if you're alive, you should own Jumping Flash! Damn straight."
That's it! Only three small paragraphs!
Compare that to todays 3-6 page reviews.
They should do that more often.
