Nintendo is nintendo, they know their stuff. What they need is third party support and if you have not noticed they get the second rate stuff cause all the main stuff is coming out on the other two consoles. Why, cause their console is a dinosaur that is not compatible, that is why.

More like the developers invested millions upon millions onto next generational tech and the Wii came out of absolutely nowhere and now that it is a success they have to create new games from scratch which takes 2 to 4 years.

I am still not seeing it and all the major franchises are coming out on the high def systems. When I see stuff like what happend with DQ moving to the DS, when I see that with major franchises moving to the Wii I will think its happening. But its not going to happen. The wii will never have the main support of these companies as long as it remains in the past.

Its getting a few its still missing out on all the big ones. Please dont even try to make it seem like Nintendo is getting more third party support than PS3 and 360, its not, its just getting different support, garbage bottom scraps support. Everyonce and a while one company may try to make something nice but thats like a miracle. HD should have nothing to do with the types of games the Wii is getting, it should be the remote that makes the difference, that is what should be leading to new games. HD would enhance that experience.

The only issue is money, Wii sells great cause its cheap, right, thats basically all you are saying. Well as time goes on tech gets cheaper and I am sure Nintendo could make a hell of a lot more powerful console and sell it at the same price as the Wii right now. Obviously they shouldn't do that at the moment but in two or so years I think its the right time. They can keep their price point but they dont need to be so far back in tech.

Spoken like some one at System Wars. All the hanging around at Gamespot and Neogaf must have rotten your brain. Check out the support Wii is getting from Japan, especially the smaller companies. Marvelous, Platinum, Aquire. Are you saying games like Little King's Story, Fragile, Madworld, Ruin Factory, Kizuna are garbage and bottom scraps? I personally am more exited, about these kinda games than some of the so called big ones, like Resident Evil 5, Gears of Wars 2 and Fallout 3.

And I am not saying the Wii sells because it is cheap. I am saying the reason why the Wii is cheap is, because that is what it is designed to do. The whole image, marketing, shape, function, wii-mote, price and design is the reason why it sells. Maybe you should pay more attention to Iwate when he talk about sales figures and Blue Ocean strategy. You might learn something.

About the cost dropping you are correct here. The bigger problem is the development costs however. It is just more expensive now to create games than before.  I am afraid we will hit that barrier before we even get to the technological one. Can you imagine making a photorealistic game? All the details you have to put in. All the single hours and sweatdrops and leaves, with insect crawling, birds flying, etc. That would be very, very expensive.

Nintendo should go back to N64 level tech for their next machine. Sell it for $25. Really, who wants their shit to have the best tech possible?

Personally, I love the fact that most Wii games don't come in true widescreen which leaves me with bars on the sides of my screen. I also like that I'm out of storage space. Why ruin a good thing?

The only problem is that certain games on the Wii actually manage to look like mid to high level Xbox 180 games. Simply going back to N64 tech would erase this problem completely.

LOL

The Wii's getting a few more games next year, and its a good thing because it has shit right now. But I gotta agree with Dvader here that its not even close to the stuff coming for the other machines.

I expect the 360's gonna start selling quite well after the price cuts, and there's just no way publishers are going to drop 360/PS3 development to move to just the Wii. There are zero signs of that happening, except for small studios that make token games who can't compete on other machines.

Why stop there? Go full circle I say. Right back to the NES then I can have all new games for my favourite classics, like Mega Man 10. Nyaa

Yes that coming from you is hilarious... Sorry man but those games ares very few and far between when compared to the other two. It has nothing to do with console wars it just is, look at this holiday lineup and tell me with a straight face the wii has anywhere close to the lineup of the other two, you can't.  You cannot tell me Nintendo is getting the best effort from Capcom, from Konami, from Activision, from Ubisoft, from Rockstar, from EA, from Namco, from Sega (well maybe they are but thats probably by accident cause sega is a mess), from Square, and I can go on and on.  Its getting a few games from some smaller dev teams, some may turn out to be gems and thats great but its still not as great as having all the best games of the year coming out on your console.

Nintendo was smart with their moves, except for making the Wii so low tech (not that its hurting their sales but it is hurting the quality of the system). The only reason I can think they did that was to put their console out there on a cheaper price point, put all their faith in this remote thing and see if it works, and congrats to them it did. The low tech IS NOT A SELLING POINT. The price is and the only reason the price is at that much is the low tech. You make the wii high tech and at the same price and its better, more people would probably buy it.  What I am saying is that you are making it seem like this low tech thing is part of the strategy when all it was is to get their console at a certain price. It wasn't for the good of anyone, it was simply to get it at a price the other two consoles could not match. I believe they could do both, I believe the next wii can be a bit closer to the next graphical improvement and still be at the same relative price that the Wii was at, there is no reason the Wii 2 should be a full generation behind its competition. I think Nintendo put no effort at all into the tech side of things and not for reasons of being noble or some master plan, just to be cheap.

As for games costing more, yes its going to get crazy but there are always ways around that. Its not like the 360 or PS3 don't offer ways to make and sell cheap games. It can still be done.

LOL

Why stop there? Go full circle I say. Right back to the NES then I can have all new games for my favourite classics, like Mega Man 10. Nyaa

Actually... I wouldn't mind that at all. Happy

It takes at a minium of 3 years to create those video games. The Wii has been prooven to sell software and not be a fad for 1 and a half (arguably longer).

There is a reason why Final Fantasy XIII was PS3 exclusive for the longest time, there is a reason why Dragon Quest IX is a DS exclusive. This is because these things are planned years in advanced and the actual game releases take far longer. How long has it been Final Fantasy XIII was announced? TGS 06? Isn't that the same with RE5? And not one of these games are released yet. And MGS4 was just released recently and was in development since  3 or so months after Snake Eater was released. These games take years upon years to make. This is why Monster Hunter 3 even though "downgraded" to make easier to develop for on the Wii is still only 33% complete in which it even uses an old and developed engine that the devs are very familiar with. AAA titles are known as huge titles for a reason.

Past (assuming you are referring to the past in tech.) has absolutely nothing to do with it. You gave Dragon Quest IX as an example which is a DS game of all-things.  I know I gave Monster Hunter 3 Wii as an example and the question of (why isn't the same happenining with FFXIII and RE5 then?). Well Capcom already had development software already compatiable with the Wii at the time of the making while they'd have to fully construct a brand new development software for the PS3 version. And most importantly Monster Hunter 3 was still in its planning stages (hence why not a single screen shot was released) where as Final Fantasy XIII and Resident Evil 5 were already well into development as well as the engines already created.

In terms of PS3/360 offering ways to make cheap games. It's more like a very corrupt indendent scene. Basically if you make a game too big to fit on there or too ambious (because it will compete against retail games) they won't put it on there unless you are a siginificant publisher *cough* Capcom *cough*. I know that sounds like "the conspriacy" but believe me it is true. I've seen this countless times when small developers try to port their PC games to those networks.

And again there is also the fact that lower tech usually = more creativity and more acceptance to other style of games. But we've been through this patch many times before.

Really the only thing that the Wii possibly needs is TRUE 16:9 format and HD resolution (these displays ARE the very near future standard) and a storage space.

If I were you I'd rest my tongue. While I am arguing with him on the top what he says has truth to it. Yes the Wii is starting to get a lot of support in Japan recently but it is mostly from small and medium developers. He is referring to BIG developers and games. So far the Wii only has two: Monster Hunter 3 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. Will it get more in the future? Well I am arguing that it very much will probably so and it doesn't have any announced to do so and so reasons. However Dvader is arguing that as of CURRENT the Wii isn't which IS a reality for the most part.

What kind of fact is that? The only reason its low tech is cause its cheaper. It all comes down to the money. If you make it just as cheap for this little companies to work on better quality kits, they will make the same type of games with better tech. Its money, not tech.

Nintendo was smart with their moves, except for making the Wii so low tech. The only reason I can think they did that was to put their console out there on a cheaper price point, put all their faith in this remote thing and see if it works, and congrats to them it did. The low tech IS NOT A SELLING POINT. The price is and the only reason the price is at that much is the low tech. You make the wii high tech and at the same price and its better and more people would probably buy it.

Lol Vader again completely missing the point. Did I ever say the Wii has a better line-up? I do not think so! All I said that you comment that I bolded I pure fanboy drivel plain and simple.

And your talking about the Wii stategy is only because the remote and price, is so retarded, I want to slap you. Before the Wii was released they talked about their stategy of disrupting the market. This means they had to make an interface that would not scare the casuals away, that would be the wiimote. They had to make a lower price again for the casuals. They even talked about making it small and stylish, so mom would put it in the living room. A non threatening device as they called it. This would lower the barrier further for the other family members to play. They also wanted to increase creativity. They talked alot about big ideas. So they had to find a way to decrease the development costs, which is another reason to keep the tech lower. The Wii is designed to for cheap development, making the financial risks less, and therefore making it easier to come with new ideas. The fact that the wii is designed to be small, quiet, cheaper development costs and cheaper price. Is the reason why it has lower tech.

Iwata has spoken of this before it was released, BEFORE. The cheapness has integrated to the design. You might not like their decission, but you cannot deny the brilliance. Nintendo correctly predicted the need of the market, they came with an  adequate design and therefore they are winning. If you still believe it is only the Wiimote consider this. They did the same exact strategy with the DS.

So the only thing hilaious is your complete ignorance in the design process of the Wii.

Read the last part, we were talking about the future support and he was calling it garbage bottom scraps. That sound like stuff you hear at System Wars. I tell it how I see it, plain and simple. I somebody makes a dumb statement I call them out. Did I say Vader is a fanboy? No, I said his statement is like someone from system wars.

And what this obsession with "big" games? I do not care if it is by a big developer or not, I only care if it is a good game.

No, I believe the results NPD throws my way. And the fact that Nintendo did it twice! Results speak for themselves Vader. Does that mean you have to like the Wii? No! (I know you do like the Wii by the way), but come on they talked about their stategy. The same one Pepsi used, the same one Aple used, the same on the DS used. What is so difficult to believe! Nintendo did their homework and had the kintama to take the steps to implement.
