The Okomoto interview is great. He talks about how he left capcom, microsoft and their cancelled games and about pitching to Nintendo and their approach to multiplatform development. (link in updates)
YO: As far as the three platforms go, there are a lot of clients approaching us and asking for multiplatform games. If it were PS3, 360, and PC, this would be no problem, but if it's PS3, 360, and Wii, we're like, "Uhhhh?hmmm." It's a tough call because if we make the same game on all three console platforms, the Wii version will just fall really short. Maybe there are Western developers that are capable of making games across all of these platforms, and that's why companies are asking us to do this as well. But I'm suffering, trying to figure out what to do about that.
For me the PS3 and 360 are platforms with similar interests, so cross-platform development for PS3, 360 and PC is great because it allows us to save money by using the same engine, and that allows the publisher to make more money on all those platforms as well. That's an effective way to develop.

So Dead Rising has sold 1.4 million

Lost Planet was released across PS3 too. PC too?
Both those games had huge budgets and huge marketing budgets.
Meanwhile the cheaper RE Wii games from Capcom that are easier and quicker to develop have posted comparable numbers hovering around the 1.5 million mark. And so rather than making some higher budget mature Wii games, they are investing in this port of Dead Rising? Crap, they better be doing something else, something better.
Half of the furore is due to Capcom's own PR. They could do wonders for themselves by showing Spyborgs and Monster Hunter 3 in a more complete form. As well as not patronising the Wii audience with PR spin about their games. If they wanted to push the Dead Rising franchise to the casual audience so much, than why not just make an original Dead Rising game on Wii?
You can bet your ass that this port is the opening salvo for Dead Rising 2..... on 360 and PS3.
Seems that Platinum Games has yet again proved to me that they are one of the few developers and the very few Japanese developers that knows what the fuck is going on in todays industry.
