Also tried downloading a few today on my phone as a lot are free to start then buy later. Came away disappointed. I didn't realise, I guess the console and PC versions are like the luxury versions. My phone is pretty good but the image quality on the games I tried was virtually 480p at times. The sound quality through my speakers were compressed and tinny. Going from a 50" TV with high resolution images, or even the larger crisper Switch screen, to a phone screen feels fairly bad. I hope more get ported to switch. Trying to identify visual objects on a blurry phone screen is a pain in the ass. You can pinch to zoom but when you do the image gets bigger but also blurrier. At least with headphones the sound is better, yet still compressed. I was going to get some games on android that aren't on switch like Gabriel Knight or Yesterday. Now I feel like I'd be disappointed with them. Anyone know if the quality is better on a android or Google tablet? Or do you just get the same versions?
So what did everyone play during the weekend?
I got back into Splatoon2. It' still immensely rewarding yet immensely infuriating when you hit a losing streak.
We also managed to beat Alatreon in MH Iceborne. We were having some trouble, managed to stay alive a bit longer and on this one go that wasn't going all too great he just died. Must just have been old age. So that now only leaves Fatalis. Sucks that you need to fight him for a while alone before you can co-op him. That's such a bullshit design choice and has happened way too often during the main campaign.
Finished Carto which remained adorable to the very end, and started Doom Eternal and Cloudpunk---a very interesting game to play back-to-back with Cyberpunk 2077.
This past weekend was more Resident Evil Village. Did a playthrough of the game in 2 hours 19 minutes. Played some Mercenaries mode. Quite fun, very arcade like action. Almost feels a lot like House of the Dead. Started playing the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Looks pretty good compared to the original and the gameplay upgrade of the first game to feel more like the sequels is pretty good.
I'm a touch confused in that it says its specifically designed for 240p signals then converting to 480p. But I also wanted the pal 560i converted to a progressive image.
I played a lot of Ghost of Tsushima this weekend.
Anyone want to make any predictions on the Switch Pro?
I'm thinking 4K through Nvidea DLSS
slightly larger form factor so you can't reuse perhiperals and cases you might have bought
some redesigned joycons for improved ergonomics (no clue how that'd work)
See through casing. Nothing screams 'pro' like see through casing.
Remember the translucent "atomic purple" that they used a lot during the N64 era? That's really what we need to see from Nintendo I think. A Switch Pro and that kind of casing couldn't stay on the shelves for more than 5 minutes.
Personally I'm thrilled. DQ3 has been a favorite of mine for years. I still boot up SFC remake every few years for a additional playthrough. The last time I did that was probably 3 years ago and I have to admit it was starting to get a little long in the tooth, though that's still not bad considering how old the game is and how many times I've played it. So getting yet another fresh coat of paint on the game is a great thing.
The real question is if they're going to attempt to flesh out the story at all. The early trailer doesn't seem to show anything new in the way of content, but that was definitely by design. Everything they showed in the game was from the first 2 - 3 hours. So there's plenty of opportunity to add in more.
Completed Kings Heir. Good game, a touch shorter than expected but it has a bonus chapter which is longer than most bonus chapters. It's a fairly new one so the artwork is pretty stunning, still shots don't really show you how good these games can look. It's like concept art come to life with rain beating down, waters running off rooftops. Swaying objects etc. There's far too many emblems to find and combine. They all have a similar colour too so aren't easily identified at a glance in the item menu. The story is like bog standard knights and Thrones with no fantasy elements. Voice acting is very good. Will last you probably 6-8 hours. I should mention I play these on casual and skip a few puzzles so if you play via experienced mode they won't feel so short.
Very nice indeed. Definitely going to check out that reveal trailer.
Finally decided to convert my Xbox Live Gold subscription to Game Pass Ultimate yesterday. Took a quick browse through some of the games offered and man there’s quite a few that I’m interested in playing. A few that I’ll probably start playing soon are:
This isn’t going to do my backlog any favours.
