I cannot get Wii U to work with Netflix or Youtube and I just read why:

Nintendo starts experiencing network issues due to overwhelming Nintendo Switch Online traffic

It appears that more and more people are utilizing their Nintendo Switch systems and their online capabilities in recent days. Just this morning, Nintendo of Europe reported that there were network issues, and they are looking to resolve the problem. Although Nintendo of Europe was the one to Tweet about the problem, it is worth noting that these network issues are currently worldwide, and whether or not the services will work regularly will depend on the average amount of traffic that each game receives. Here's hoping that their network services are back to full speed soon!

This would never have been an issue in the WiiU days.  Those were the times...

Nintendo has finally and fully made it to the big leagues with Microsoft and Sony. Congrats to Nintendo!

I started the Shadow of the Collossus remake yesterday.  I didn't realize it was a complete remake from the ground up. It's gorgeous, one of the best looking PS4 games I've seen. I'm at collossus 4 in less than an hour so this looks to be a six to seven hour game, at most.

PS5 specs:

PlayStation 5 PlayStation 4
CPU 8x Zen 2 Cores at 3.5GHz (variable frequency) 8x Jaguar Cores at 1.6GHz
GPU 10.28 TFLOPs, 36 CUs at 2.23GHz (variable frequency) 1.84 TFLOPs, 18 CUs at 800MHz
GPU Architecture Custom RDNA 2 Custom GCN
Memory/Interface 16GB GDDR6/256-bit 8GB GDDR5/256-bit
Memory Bandwidth 448GB/s 176GB/s
Internal Storage Custom 825GB SSD 500GB HDD
IO Throughput 5.5GB/s (Raw), Typical 8-9GB/s (Compressed) Approx 50-100MB/s (dependent on data location on HDD)
Expandable Storage NVMe SSD Slot Replaceable internal HDD
External Storage USB HDD Support USB HDD Support
Optical Drive 4K UHD Blu-ray Drive Blu-ray Drive

  • Where Ms is focusing on holding the same frequencies no matter what, Sony will be having their PS5's manage their own frequencies based on max TPD.  This means that throttling could be an issue if devs try to push the hardware too far.  However, since all PS5's will react the same, games can be easily optimized to prevent this from happening.
  • Sony's logic is that it's better to have less GPU cures run at higher clocks than have more cores run at lower clocks.  Not sure how that may be true, although the point that managing and ordering info about to less cores is easier does seem to make some sense.
  • SSD speeds seem to be higher still than those of MS's next gen console.  Theoretically the whole RAM can be filled in 2 seconds, effectively erradicating loading times.

It doesn't matter. Devs will try to push it so hard that it won't reach native 4k, nor hit a stable 60fps. The wheel time will ever turn.

MS has said they've been very careful in considering how to keep everything cool. They've stated that the one large fan will result in a console that's in the same ballparc as the Xbone X in terms of noise.

Amazing RE3 demo. Builds on RE2, action feels better, dodge is great and will change how all combat is approached. Zombies come from everywhere, dodge makes one or two easy to handle but these guys come from places you might have not noticed and get you from behind. The detail in this world is stunning. Every billboard or flier is filled with world building. The colors so great, it feels much more alive than RE2.

Nemesis is a blast, it’s like the hulk chasing you around. I have seen him come down buildings, jump across levels, just fall from the sky, it’s crazy. Going to be fun dealing with him.

I have 13 dolls, I cannot fathom how there are 7 more, HOW?! I looked everywhere. There are so many nooks with paths you might miss. It’s so well designed!

What a demo. What a game.

The Sony presentation is the worst presentation ever, EVER. Why release a developer vid when you know everyone is starving for info so everyone will watch this boring bland shit show. Plus the numbers aren't as good as Xbox, though the SSD is faster. Poor show. Bad look for Sony.

I don't really understand why they even have these or they are considered major events. Outside of industry people, I don't really think there's a large swath of people who really understand all the technical specs anyway. It's one thing if you're going to show it off in tandem with software, and Show what can be done with it. Otherwise, the whole thing can be done with a PDF.

Judging my experiences in building a PC recently, air cooling has come a very long way these past few years. I don't think cooling should really be an issue. Small-form factor cases have really improved as well, and that's basically what the Xbox One X is in.

Yesterday, in turbulent times we set out on the calm seas.  A crew of 2, we steered our vessel with steady hand, on a quest for the Order of Souls to bring them the skull of a cursed captain.  The whereabouts of this legendary scoundrel were shrouded in mystery, a mist that which only a magical compass could pierce.

So we set out to hunt down 2 lesser legends who had perrished on islands unknown, guided by an old captains log the Shadow of Souls lent us.  We tracked them down on the islands they had stranded, comparing hasty notes in the log with the outlines of islands as they appeared on the horizon, guided by nothing but some scribbles and our witts.  Once their weary bones had been put to rest and the relics returned, the Order could conjure the required compas that would guide us directly to captain Briggsy and her mutinous crew.  After a long voyage delayed even more by the need to evade traiturous pirate ships all the while confronted by an unfortunate headwind, we arrived on the island harbouring the cursed crew.  We returned to our ship triumphantly, the gem encrusted skull of Briggsy in our possession, the only thing left to do is deliver it back to the Order.

We were feeling triumphant, jolly even, and not even a skelleton ship pulling up besides us could break our mood.  We would sink them as we had sunk many of their kin before and be home before evening.  And then it appeared.  The water turned black as ink.  The music raised, shifted in tone as it herralded imminent doom.  The Kracken appeared.  It's monstrous green and purple arms rising from the deep.  We had only seen one of these once before and had not been able to save our hides nor our ship.  We fought courageously in the face of imminent failure.  A hasty plan was concocted and as I sacrificed myself ot the Kracken's hunger, my mate grabbed Briggsy's skull and abandonned ship in a feeble attempt to swim to shore, any shore.

I woke on a beach, our boat slowly bobbing peacefully in a secluded bay.  Some good fortune at last as I had resurfaced not far from where we caved to the beast.  My mate was still drifting about helplessly as I set out on a hasty rescue mission in hopes of salvaging the skull and thus the mission.  I heard cries of agony bellow through the microphone as he was attacked by a shark with no means to defend himself without dropping the skull.  Soon he resurfaced on our ship, resurrected once more.  Our mood had turned as all our good fortune had been undone by a single hungering beast.  There was a short flash of hope as our enchanted compas was still showing a  heading.  Could we still retrieve the skull?  We straightened our backs, possible played a short tune on the accordeon as the ship came to life under our experienced hands.  We shot over the water, following the small arrow on our compas, but to no avail.  After a mere minutes the compass disappeared, it's spell broken as the skull was forever lost.  We had failed.  We sulked about on board for a little more, bemoaning how the fair winds had left us empty handed, and logged off.

Tomorrow, we will set sail again to bring Briggsy's skull to justice.
