[eurogamer.net]W101: Remastered smashes Kickstarter goal in less than four hours

I wonder why platinum turned to kickstarter for this.  I know they wanted to get into self publishing, but this does seem like a cop-out to me.  They couldn't spare 50k themselves to make the Switch version a reality?

On the other hand, you can back the Kickstater and get the game for as low as €33 of €46 for the physical version, so it does seem like a bargain.

Yeah I agree. $50K, c'mon some kind of joke. They could blow that in a Tokyo whiskey bar before 21:30 (based on my deep ethnological studies of tokyo whiskey bars over the last 14 years (cough cough, playing Yakuza). And also, fuck, I've been playing Yakuza for 14 years! How does that happen?

Simply put, begging for money when you have money is in poor taste.

I believe when begging, the beggar does not offer their services or a product in return for the charitable donation. Uneasy

A closer, though still false, analogy would be busking. An even closer, though still false, analogy would be that they are canvassing for investments, which publishers and developers do all the time, even when they have lots of money already!

I think the malcontent stems from the feeling that a respected company is placing the risk on the little guy.  It's also not just a case of preordering, as there are multiple very expensive tiers where what you are getting does not justify the cost of it.  Furthermore Platinum announced that they'd go the route of self publishing, which this is not.  This is no more self publishing than that guy we all know who claims he lives on his own but still gets his rent paid by his dad.

And as Vader said, it creates a dangerous precedent.  I don't want a future where the only games that are being made are the ones that managed to sell enough copies upfront to mitigate risk for the publisher and developer.

I've been listening to the latest GUPodcast and I can only say that the only correct score for DMC2 would be a 10, being the binary notation of '2'.  That is all.

[eurogamer.net]Has GeForce Now quietly killed Google Stadia?

This seems like an interesting proposition.  Basically you get to stream all your PC games, regardless of the store you bought them from.  So you get your personal collection, running on top level hardware in the cloud, at 30FPS.  There's a free subscription that lets you connect for 1 hour, with your ability to connect for longer depending on if there's free headroom on the service.  If you pay $60 a year, you get unlimited priority access and features like ray tracing thrown in.

So basically everything Stadia should have been, with the bonus that if the whole thing fails and gets shut down, you don't lose access to your games.

For me this would be perfect, as my gaming pc is starting to really show his age and I don't really game much on it in the first place.

That's just silly, and patronising. The little guy is just as capable as the big guy of deciding whether they're willing to risk their money or not. A more logical criticism would be that the potential reward is lower, as you don't get a share of the profits. But, very few people are paying for anything beyond the cost of the game or standard pre-order bonuses, so it's not like they're taking a huge risk.

All this does as a precedent is cut out financial rent-seeking, outside of the crowdfunding website; which is still an improvement in efficiency, because at least they can't interfere with proceedings. Nyaa

However, I do agree that the expensive bonus tiers are terrible, but few people have bought them, at least.

That self-publishing statement is simply wrong. Self-publishing is not a euphemism for self-funding. Self-publishing means that the author of the work publishes it without the oversight of a publisher; not without the funding from another entity. Indeed, crowdfunding is a common way of covering publishing costs for self-publishers. And, again, there is no requirement that self-publishers seeking crowd funding be destitute, just as there is no requirement that publishers seeking investment be bankrupt.

Do PS Plus is pretty sweet this month.  You get the Bioshock Collection and Sims 4.  I'm excited to get into the Bioshock series again and never tried the Sims.  It seems like something every member of the family could enjoy.

I'll probably grab it this weekend. I wanted to finish Dragon  6, but I'm a little half through and I'm starting to get a bit bored with it.

So my youngest wants to see Sonic so I have three tickets to see it on Friday morning. Here's hoping it's not a total crap fest.  Or it's so bad that it's good.

I find the concept of werewolves in a Resident Evil game very intriguing.
