I always thought it was funny how they did this in the PS2 promo shots to make the system look better. They have the disc inserted in the tray backwards to make it look like the tray has a cool glossy purple glaze. Which also is funny because PS2 discs were silver & PS1 discs were black.

I have at least one purple PS2 disc, though it's not a game (action replay 2, for booting pirated games). I think I might have some blue demo discs, too.

Also, haven't Famitsu review scores always been based on adverising money?

Yay! Nintendo is releasing six games for their online service on December 12th. The games are:

NES:

  • Journey to Silius
  • Crystalis

SNES:

  • Starfox 2
  • Super Punchout!!
  • Kirby Superstar
  • Breath of Fire II

I’m particularly happy with Crystalis and Breath of Fire II. Journey to Silius has a kickass soundtrack.

That is a nice list. Crystalis was one of those great underappreciated NES games. It was like Legend of Zelda taken to that next level and given some story and characters.

Breath of Fire II was also a favorite of mine. One of the things that series always did that I loved was that it gave you a look at the same world but thousands of years apart. Seeing the way cities and clans evolved was always kind of cool. didn't feel like a lot of games did stuff like that.

I had rented Crystalis way back when it first came out and enjoyed what I played of it. I never did finish it though so I’d like to be able to finally do that.

Really enjoy the Breath of Fire games except for that fifth one, Dragon Quarter, on the PS2. Would love to see Capcom bring it back with another instalment but that’s probably unlikely.

If I'm not mistaken, there was a mobile Breath of Fire That came out in Japan a couple years ago. Not that anyone should take hope for future console games because of that.

Yeah I saw that a couple of years ago. Kind of wanted to try it but there was no word about them releasing it elsewhere.

Kotaku: Microsoft planning lower-cost, digital-only version of Xbox Project Scarlett

Honestly, with how good of a deal GamePass is, I wouldn't mind a digital only console from MS.  Sure, you can make arguments about how it just becomes a brick the moment you cancel your gamepass subscription, or when MS decides it'll shut some stuff down, but the same can be said for all digital games, including everything on Steam.

For people who like to own games and have bad internet the all digital future is not a reality.

The older I get and realise I'll never re-visit games makes the ownership component less compelling, but the internet issues, whli way better than 10 years ago still abide.

Helpful tip for everyone (this is really a life hack that you'll be able to use every day, so get ready to absorb it... no really... are you ready, I mean really ready, becaues this may change your life.....

Don't buy Breath of Fire for the PSP. It has a game breaking bug in it fairly deep in the game.

Phew.. .glad to get that out of my system and save you guys.

Only the ones that start with a 1 and end with a 0.

Famitsu is famously known to only give tens in exchage for cash.

You like Uncharted, and it has that vibe. The parry system is something to get used to if you are not au fait with the Dark Souls series, but in time you get used to it and it's quite satisfying. It's the very definition of a "B" game which to me is awesome.

A friend of mine liked it a lot. Respawn is pretty much the only EA dev I trust at all anymore to make a good game.

Same.

For streaming: yes.  For something like GamePass, where you download games, I don't really agree.  I have a fairly limited monthly download budget, but that doesn't mean that GamePass isn't good value to me.  I just only download games I'm truely interested in, and I download them spread out over a couple of months.

  • Either way, they have an upside down disc in the tray.
  • I'm sure you're right, but it used to be at least rare for them to give scores over 30/40. And they had what, like 4 games that they gave a perfect score to for decades? Now it's just like every other pub with bloated reviews.

Vanquish Remaster and Bayontetta Remaster leaked

05.12.19 - Platinum Games is apparently preparing a remaster of Vanquish (PS3/Xbox 360, 2010). This is clear from an announcement in the Microsoft Store.
There, the game is listed for Xbox One for 17.02.20 in Europe and the USA. The Sega title runs in 4K and at 60 fps on Xbox One, the download size is 100.84MB. A PS4 version should also be planned. An official announcement is yet to be made.
The game features several innovations in the field of 3D shooters, including fast gameplay reminiscent of 2D bullet-hell shooters, beat-em-up elements and an original slide-boost mechanism.
The game received a positive critical response when it was released, with game testers praising the game's fast-paced action, shooter-genre innovations, boss fights and visual style, while criticizing the course of action, synchronization and the overall short duration of the campaign. THE EDGE gave away 8 out of 10 points, the Japanese Famitsu 37 of 40 points.
Microsoft writes in the store about the third-person shooter: "The iconic space shooter is back. The overpopulated Earth lacks resources and is hoping to support the solar-powered space colony Providence. When it is suddenly conquered by a group of mutineers who use their technology to destroy entire cities, a specially trained unit of space Marines must recapture it.
With the experimental BLADE weapon system that can scan and copy existing weapons and store up to three of these weapons, DARPA agent Sam Gideon must infiltrate the captured space colony of Providence, mow down legions of futuristic enemies, and eliminate the energy transmitter that threatens all life on Earth."
A Bayonetta Remaster also appears in the Microsoft Store. It also runs in 4K and at 60 fps, is scheduled to be released on 17.02.20 for Xbox One (and probably also PS4) in Europe. On classics from Sega and Platinum Games, Microsoft writes:
"Experience the origin of the Bayonetta series with this cult classic, the original action-adventure game. When the enticing umbra witch awakens from her slumber after half a millennium in the depths, she has no memories of her mysterious past. Immediately, she finds herself embroiled in a war and must defeat countless enemies to bring the truth to light."
Bayonetta (Switch, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U) was first released in 2010 and scored 40 out of 40 in the Famitsu. Again, there is no official announcement from Sega.

You guys remember those official PS2 purple-ish horizontal stands? I had a friend who bought one for $25 with his launch PS2. When he installed it, he realized Sony ripped him off, lol. The vertical stand makes sense for added stability, but the horizontal one was for aesthetics-only.

Hilarious.

I've never used a stand on any console other than Wii, because I think you had to on that one otherwise it would tumble over without even touching it.
