Nintendo really needs to fix this at the factory level because this could be an even more serious issue with the Switch Lite.
Could be what weapon you are using. Some of the short range machine guns are ridiculously powerful and kill you almost instantly. If you are using anything less powerful it does take longer and it sucks.
I’ve done that already, GG.
I’ve tried recalibrating and disconnecting them and re-pairing them but the left analog stick still wants to drift upwards. It’s my understanding that it’s a hardware issue that needs to be fixed at the factory level.
Here’s a video by Spawn Wave explaining why the joycon analog stick will start to drift.

I get absolutely no joy from being conned.
Wise decision. I’m waiting for them to fix it before I replace my current joycons. I’d like to get the Pro controller as I hear it doesn’t have this problem however that doesn’t help when playing in handheld mode.
I thought you already had one. This blows my mind.
The Pro (Or NORMAL) controller is the best pad Nintendo has ever made, or at least since the Gamecube. I like it more than the Cube pad because it has all the buttons it should have, & none of them are Game Boy leftovers. It's made for man hands. And it's comfortable.
Here’s another YouTube video from Spawn Wave that just came out today that says more and more people are starting to press on this joycon drift issue. It’s at the very beginning of the video.

You should also watch the video that I posted earlier that Spawn Wave did that shows why the joycon analog sticks will develop drift problems.
I'll try cleaning it with airspray. If that fails I'll call Nintendo directly to see if I can get it fixed on the cheap. I'll just ask for a bulk discount.
it's worth getting on the phone and talking to Nintendo customer service directly. A few years ago I had to get my 3DS fixed and I balked and the price they wanted to charge me for the repair a few times. I just kept saying I didn't have the money for it and I would just put it on the shelf for now and get it fixed when I could. Eventually the rep offered me a free repair and all I needed to do was cover the cost of shipping.
wtf?
May as well buy the hori dpad one for handheld play or get a cheap wired controller. I was going to buy the Splatoon 2 Pro controller till they became super expensive. BTW the final splatfest has started. I saw you were team order on the app. Me too.
