The analog stick on my left joycon seems to have developed a drifting issue. The stick itself seems straight however it tends to want to register the up motion. I can still manage well enough to it but it can be a bit annoying at times.

Mine is the same except downward motion.  I’m hoping to replace it soon.

3 of my 4 joycon have issues. 2 sticks that drift and one shoulder button that isn't responding anymore...

Nintendo really needs to fix this at the factory level because this could be an even more serious issue with the Switch Lite.

I've started Mutant Year Zero, a supposedly indy take on a post apocalyptic Xcom. It's enjoyable so far, although I dislike the top down camera placement. I understand it's a genre trope, but I'm finding it to be very claustrophobic. Since we're away for a couple of days I've been playing a lot ot Tetris99 on Switch. I managed to come in second, improving my top ranking and have just started playing Splatoon2 again. I suck at it all over again. Always very puzzling how it seems to take me 2 seconds to kill someone while I can be splatted in what seems to be a tenth of a second to me. This game's lag is so much worse than the original's it's ridiculous. Whether or not the inevitable third game improves on the lag could really impact my decision to buy the game or skip it.

Could be what weapon you are using. Some of the short range machine guns are ridiculously powerful and kill you almost instantly. If you are using anything less powerful it does take longer and it sucks.

just recalibrate it via the settings.

Have you disconnected them through the controller settings and re-paired them and rebooted?

I’ve tried recalibrating and disconnecting them and re-pairing them but the left analog stick still wants to drift upwards. It’s my understanding that it’s a hardware issue that needs to be fixed at the factory level.

Here’s a video by Spawn Wave explaining why the joycon analog stick will start to drift.

Have you tried updating the controllers this is separate from updating the switch itself and has to be done separately in the settings menu

GG, it's a widespread issue which is hardware based. No amount of calibrating or updating will solve this.

*note to self* wait for Joycon 2.0 before buying a Switch.

Wise decision. I’m waiting for them to fix it before I replace my current joycons. I’d like to get the Pro controller as I hear it doesn’t have this problem however that doesn’t help when playing in handheld mode.

You got to try all available options. I had a left stick drift with Zelda. I updated the joycon and it was fixed. Also you got to make sure the stick is centered before you turn it or the system on or the console thinks the center is wherever the stick was positioned when it was turned on. I had the same problem on my 360. I haven't heard of this being a widespread issue on switch, I still read gonintendo.com semi regularly and I haven't seen it highlighted as a massive problem. If it is then why hasn't anyone just sent their controllers in to be fixed? I had the OG dodgy left joycon issue. They fixed it for free within days.

I thought you already had one. This blows my mind.

The Pro (Or NORMAL) controller is the best pad Nintendo has ever made, or at least since the Gamecube. I like it more than the Cube pad because it has all the buttons it should have, & none of them are Game Boy leftovers. It's made for man hands. And it's comfortable.

Here’s another YouTube video from Spawn Wave that just came out today that says more and more people are starting to press on this joycon drift issue. It’s at the very beginning of the video.

You should also watch the video that I posted earlier that Spawn Wave did that shows why the joycon analog sticks will develop drift problems.

Thanks for the article Raven. Think I'll try blowing the joycon clean tomorrow. If it doesn't work, at least it'll have been a bittersweet throwback to simpler times, when blowing in NES cartridges was nearly a ritual you performed every time you plugged Ik a cart.

Why haven't you guys got this fixed? It sounds ridiculous. In a 3rd person game your character will constantly move. Just email Nintendo this video and any other links to prove your case. I have done this before many times, wii red and green dot problem, DS Lite cracked hinge, left joycon. They have always fixed it in days and for free.

Case in point my Surface Pro 4 was out of warranty by nearly a year and a half. MS said they would fix it as long as it was under 3 years old, for free. Same thing with OG 360 RROD. Free fix. Even if it costs to repair your joycon it can't cost that much and surely it's worth it.

They charge about the cost of a wholly new one, I checked. I actually signed up to send it in for repair but then decided against it.

I'll try cleaning it with airspray. If that fails I'll call Nintendo directly to see if I can get it fixed on the cheap. I'll just ask for a bulk discount.  Hrm

it's worth getting on the phone and talking to Nintendo customer service directly. A few years ago I had to get my 3DS fixed and I balked and the price they wanted to charge me for the repair a few times. I just kept saying I didn't have the money for it and I would just put it on the shelf for now and get it fixed when I could. Eventually the rep offered me a free repair and all I needed to do was cover the cost of shipping.

LOL wtf?

May as well buy the hori dpad one for handheld play or get a cheap wired controller. I was going to buy the Splatoon 2 Pro controller till they became super expensive. BTW the final splatfest has started. I saw you were team order on the app. Me too.
