I just showed the Labo video to my son, and even at age 11 he is pretty impressed. There is a robotics program at his school, and this kind of reminds me of some of the basic stuff that they did in that. So I can see a lot of kids being into this. The price tag is pretty high, but depending on how much play they get out of it it could be worth it since it's both a model kit and a game.

Nintendo Lego My Eggo?
Nintendo Cardboard Box?

I'm hearing this ties into Metroid Prime 4 in interesting ways. Every Boss battle has to have a completed Lego doppelganger to progress. The Metroid Lego bosses will be sold for $15 each.

I forgot to react to the Nintendo cardboard..... ahahahahhahahahahahaha.

It's cool for kids but that's it. The games are probably going to be crap mini games. Some neat ideas there but in the end they are selling you cardboard.

1. Given their history in hanafuda, the cardboard is kinda cool.

2. Given Switch, Nintendo can do whatever the fuck they want so far as I am concerned.

I read the article and it sounds allright, if I was a kid. But I thought, carboard, so cheap? Then I saw the price.

OMFG. $70 and $80?

Just release the software digitally for a few bucks. Idiots.

I watched the video and these guys are either geniuses or crack addicts. Then I remembered the opening shot of the cardboard being printed and it reminded me of the old DS gif where it prints money. This is literally them printing money. Compared to how much they are selling it for.

Also, I guess we know what happened to Project Giant Robot.

Hey, Nintendo is great at crap minigames. Warioware, Rhythm Heaven, Wii Play had some awesome stuff. Billiards and Laser Hockey is still Godly. Wii Sports Tennis was the shit back in the day.

Yesterday everyone was praising Nintendo for coming up with something so left field, today is the 'lets shit on it because it's hilariously expsive' day.

Honnestly, I think the price for the 'variety pack' is pretty spot on.  Sure, it's cardboard, but it's kind of a lot of cardboard, the software, and there's hours of joy to be had from it.  People stopped complaining about games with 10 hours of content back in 2002, what's wrong with paying a similar amount of money for something like this?  Even if the games are throwaway, you'll easily spend 10 hours with it and probably more.

The robot set I'm not as convinced about.  The novelty of the suit won't last very long, and even if it is a full game, it won't get a lot of playtime because of the suit.

The price of the cart plus cardboard probably is fairly high-ish. But they could just sell the cardboard with a download code and make the whole pack a lot cheaper. They should also do a cross promotion with a game magazine to have a free set with one issue, again with a download code so people could try it.

While most likely Labo won’t be something that I’ll ever get into, and that’s perfectly fine, I do think that it is incredibly creative. Obviously the bulk of the price is the software aspect so I think we’ll have to see more on that before final judgment. I don’t know why but I got a bit of a chuckle when I saw that it was coming out April 20th.

They said you don't really need the cardboard, all you need is the software.

They said that the good thing is that if kids break the cardboard, Nintendo will replace it free of charge.

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:

  • SMB Mix-Up! (1AB2-0000-0047-5A7D)
  • Storm the Castle (77BD-0000-00E0-A9C0)

I'm reading conflicting reports on this. IGN France said that^

But then I have read articles saying there would be no replacement cardboards.

I was thinking about it. If you have kids, nephews or whatever, buying the big variety pack would be a pretty great way to kill time for a few days, constructing each one with them as a project. But then they might want my Switch - and the answer would be no. Tears would follow.
