Eurogamer reviews Xenoblade 2
"The true sequel to the best-loved contemporary JRPG is unrestrained in its ambition, and the result is a chaotic kind of brilliance. "eurogamer.net impressions gamingeek
I don't expect of a reviewer that they have seen everything. They should at least have beaten the main story though.
Agreed. If you haven't finished it, don't review it.
Like what if some dude reviewed Witcher 3 and didn't make it up to the point where Geralt of Rivia destroys Trish's asshole with some butt sex? Am I supposed to take that review seriously?
What's your opinion on reviews regarding playtime, guys? I remember way back reviewers were expected to complete a game to be qualified to review it. Now the number of short linear single player games is shrinking and/or there is so much post completion content - that I think most reviews are the equivalent of hot takes.
If I think about XCX, I sunk over 250 hrs into that game and seeing some reviewers at 30-60 hrs then reviewing it, I'm highly aware of a swathe of content that they haven't even seen yet. Now you can't expect a reviewer to be able to have that amount of time before doing a review, yet on the other hand there is tons of stuff they haven't seen or done. So how do you square it?
Play the entire story, any major post game stuff as well and do enough of all side content to know you aren't missing anything of value. Like who cares if you missed some korok seeds in zelda but try to do all shrines.
Play time does not mean what it once did to me. In fact, I'm usually happier with a game that is around 20 hours in length rather than one that is 60 hours.
That said, I don't think you need to finish the game two fairly judge it. If you invest 30 hours or more in a game, you generally know the ins and outs of it. There are very few games that are played remarkably different at the 60-hour point than they are at the 30-hour point. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it is rare. The only thing you might not really know is the full story and ending, but once again I think after a certain point you have the gist and know whether it is quality or not.

I agree but then you have games where you can see the credits after 15 hrs and still have 100hrs left of game they never touch.

There are some games that only get going after the first 20 hrs though.

How would a reviewer know if the post game content is major or not though? They are our first contact with a game so they won't know till they play it I guess.
500 hours should be the minimum amount of time you have to play any game to review it. If you're making a living playing videogames and spouting your opinions as fact, the least you could do is have to play every game until you absolutely can't take it anymore before you review it. Then maybe the review scores would come back down to reality as well.
Game scores will never come back to reality until game sites and magazines don't require game companies to take out ad space. They're just too reliant on them.

I love the idea of reviewers being forced to play games till they can't stand it anymore.

I didn't tell you guys, but the same day I was in pain from mouth problems and was up like 30 hours straight, my cat Kain also died. I had to sit with him all night...he couldn't stand or barely move and I just tried to comfort him until the vet opened at 8am. He's been declining for about a year getting worse each month and I knew he didn't have much time left, but that doesn't make it any easier. As you guys know, a pet isn't just a pet, it's a member of your family. And Kain was the coolest, smartest cat I've ever seen. Maybe because I named him after a badass vampire.
They had to put him to sleep...really nothing to be done for him. And he's not suffering anymore. Took him home and made a nice little grave for him in the back yard. He was nearly 15 years old. He used to love sitting next to me or on my lap while I played games all the time. Earlier this year in the spring, my other cat Abigail died of I believe some kind of stroke. She was actually 18 so she had a really long life. But two in the same year is just brutal.
So yeah, fuck this week. A definite lowpoint of 2017.
So sad Edge. I lost two cats within a year or so. It's so bad when its long and drawn out and there's nothing you can do. I'm not ashamed to say I cried manly tears. They're like family.
Omg omg. Played xenoblade 2 omg. Couldn't stop smiling, getting major Skies of Arcadia vibes. Music is SO good. Character models are much better. Hated the voice acting in the first couple of mins then miraculously went 180 a few minutes later. Like the full English regional accents.

Good point. I forget about corruption.
It makes me smile thinking of someone having to replay a 7 hour game over and over again to hit 500 hours of playtime.
RE Revelations - A look at Joy-Con motion controls and IR camera usage in video
Anyone watch this? There is wiimote like aiming. Makes me a lot more interested in this game.
Good riddance to this week from hell.

My condolences, Edge. Pets are family.

Jazz Jackrabbit is now on GOG. Tempting...
Thanks for the kind words fellas.
So sorry to hear that, Edge. At least he is no longer suffering.
My sincere condolences.
