Petty was a cool dude. Reminds me of my childhood. Definitely need to have some drunks in his honor.

What a shit day yesterday was. Vegas is just heartbreaking, we have serious issues in this country and nothing will get addressed. Its maddening.

I've been playing too much destiny, finally beat the raid. And lots of metroid as well, good stuff. Destiny review will be up soon.

I know.  I’ve always said if Sandy Hook doesn’t change us then nothing will.  It’s really sad that this will never be called what it is, terrorism.

It's one nutjob though, not an entire religious cult built around chaos. There's literally zero anyone can do about one person snapping and going postal.

There aren't many guns here because of the strict laws. So of someone decides to go postal he has to use knives and the body count is severely restricted because of that. Aside from bombers that is. America would need to pass laws banning guns, stopping ammunition sales and actually reclaim guns from registered owners. It would take years if not decades to phase guns out but it could be done if everyone focused on it. Gun sniffing dogs sweeping random properties?

So turn it into even more of a police state. Sweet.

I think a better solution, at least to me, would be to figure out why so many people are going insane these days because it's obviously a mental problem within the society. Figure out what exactly it is in modern culture causing this. I don't have an answer but that's where I would start. You can point to guns, but guns aren't the cause. They're the effect. Take them away, and people will find another way because the insanity is still going to be there.

Guns have been around for a long time, but it's only recently in the last few decades you have people just opening fire on innocent people. At least, to the extent it has been happening. Why is that? That's the question.

And you can also restrict rifles and make it way way way harder to get guns cause it's the right thing to do and it will put obstacles in the path of psychos while you figure out the mental health problem.

I'm sorry, but you'll never be able to take away the reason why people go mental.  It can be anything, but it will probably have to do with the ever rising inequality between rich and poor and the ever increasing perceived level of stress on the individual both in terms of workload and what is expected on a personal social level.

And you can pretend guns aren't the problem, but when a guy can smuggle 10 semi automatic riffles into a hotel room, that is a problem, regardless of his mental state.  Perhaps you didn't hear about these things 30 years ago because automatic weapons were harder to come by?  It's not that people are going insane in greater numbers, it's that more lethal weapons are easily available.

Yeah I agree, mental health will always be an issue but it should not be so easy to get weapons like that.

Gun violence in the United States results in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries annually. In 2013, there were 73,505 nonfatal firearm injuries (23.2 injuries per 100,000 U.S. citizens), and 33,636 deaths due to "injury by firearms" (10.6 deaths per 100,000 U.S. citizens).

So yeah it's not just about mass killing sprees.

I'm not saying guns aren't a problem, but they're not the root of the problem. IMO everyone should be allowed to get a handgun after going through whatever process you have to go through to get one, just to be able to protect yourself and your family if and when the shit ever hits the fan. But yeah, there's no reason why some guy should be able to stockpile military rifles for a small army.

There's a ton of weapons out there though. I don't agree that it would be possible to remove them all at this point. You're going to go house to house and kick doors in like it's Iraq in 2003? Cmon. There's enough black market shit out there at this point to make your head spin. But they could at least put a ban on any more of them being sold. Hell Walmart was selling rifles just a few years ago.

I doubt you could tackle the root of the problem. It's much easier to eliminate the means to do harm. But getting rid of weapons in the US is indeed neigh on impossible.  Perhaps it'd be easier to register ammo? That way you could monitor and orr lilit how many bullets someone has in his possession, thus being able to prevent or foresee mass shootings like in vegas?
