Miyamoto teases a special element to NX
"If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker"

What they're saying sounds good to me as long as both console iterations are properly supported which I don't see why they can't be.
Miyamoto just said they are not showing NX because they are working on something new with it. He said they are always looking at current trends of technology.
So I'm guessing some form of AR or VR.
Or a bigger tablet controller.
I'm hoping that the rumours about the NX using cartridges for its games turn out to be true.
I would be good with that too. We have reached a point where virtually every game requires downloadable patches or content as it is, so limitations of physical media don't really matter so much when you get down to it.
Yep, kind of like Limbo. Great presentation but the gameplay is a little flat.
Of course it is a 3 hour artsy shit.
Well, it is by the same developer. I'm not hopefull. I'm sure I'll play it one day after buying it in an humble bundle or something.
I used to dislike Nintendo for ditching carts in favour of discs, but honnestly, it doesn't matter anymore. I liked carts for their fast loading so we didn't have to put up with 'loading time's. Games like MH4 on the 3DS have shown that carts or not, loading times will be here to stay regardless. If NX uses carts, it'll be because portability will be a big feature, which I hope it will not.
The thing about carts is through the eyes of the casual gamer, it'll seem like a step backwards and may be a turn off because of that.
I would bet they aren't carts but large capacity memory cards that can be plugged into the console NX and the portable NX.
I just read this from Nintendo's investor conference:
Q15. I believe that the game industry’s biggest problems are increasing development costs and the length of development. I’d like to hear from each director what their approach to this is.
Kimishima: Certainly, development costs have increased in the last 10 years. Let’s have each director answer.
Takeda: We’re using increases in productivity to make an appeal with the greatness of games instead of [hardware] performance.
-----------------------------------------------------
Read that last line carefully. I believe this is related to NX. Remember what Emily Rogers said? She said that NX was geared around massively increasing Nintendo's 1st party software output. What Takeda is saying tallies in with that. He doesn't specifically say he's talking about NX, but it's implied. They want to make appeal through the greatness of their games, instead of hardware performance.
Isn't that the same shit Nintendo ALWAYS says?
Yes NX will have great 1st-party Nintendo games.....no shit.
I do too.
I've honestly been thinking for years now, why do hardware companies not switch to putting games on SD card type carts since they can hold so much data? I was thinking of this like 5 years ago. They hold just as much if not more than a disc, plus have all the benefits that carts always had. I don't see a downside.
Game of Thrones was fucking epic!
Only one thing happened that I totally hated....over frying good fish is never a good idea. But other than that it was on point!
Yep. I've really enjoyed this season and love where the show is headed. I think part of the reason this season was so good to me was because for the first time I had no clue of what direction the show was heading towards. I'm glad to know a widely held theory was finally confirmed, but it sure feels weird to not have read it first.
The AGM comments say no:
"I heard VR was a hot topic at #E3, so I went to check it out. It was on display, but it wasn't what I expected. We're also researching VR, so we have the core technology. Long play sessions are an issue. We want to release something that can be played for long periods, carries value, and is affordable. We want parents to feel at ease"
-Miyamoto
Honestly though, Miyamoto is stuck in the past with this satisfying parents shit.
Why? It could cost more for carts, reducing profit margins on games or pushing up game prices. If there were carts it also probably means that NX is a hybrid device which has all sorts of implications and issues around it.
Not quite. There is meaning behind it. Nintendo has gone through a huge restructuring and part of that was about increasing software production. They've also brought in tons new developers and are having the old guys step back a bit. It's likely that a lot of U titles have been turned into NX games.
We should know soon how this will all pan out.
I agree with Travo though, carts, or some form of SD card akin to what the 3DS uses, just isn't 'cool' like Bluray discs are. And then there's still the added manufacturing cost when compared to discs. Also, do we really want our games to be the size of a poststamp? There's a certain reassuring weight to having a physical medium the size of a disc. Sure, you could make the carts larger than they need to be from a technology standpoint, but that would make them look even more retro.
Smaller games media is better in terms of physical size. There isn't even a need for 3DS game boxes to be that large. I have far too many DVDs, Blurays and Videogames in DVD style boxes to contain it all.
