How do you know that? As far as I'm concerned, that's just speculation from armchair strategists who think such a thing would benefit Nintendo.
They should become the Japanese Activision. Pokemon is their COD.
They can release a fucking Amiibo adapter for Xbox, Playstation, and PC and sell triple the amount of those fuckers. Make a 1st-person "Skyrim-mode" of Zelda for VR & make Super Mario Sunshine 2 with the option for "tress-fx water" on the PC. And a bald Mario.
I don't know how they didn't make 3DS games cross compatible with Wii U in the first place. Virtually the same controls, two screens...upscale that shit and be done with it.
I think this whole train of thought is based on the prejudice that there are a lot of gamers who would like to play a Nintendo game, but don't because they do not want to shell out for the hardware. Personally I doubt this to be true. Nintendo hardware typically gets cheap enough that anyone who wants to play these games can do so without feeling they have to part with too much cash to do so. But, to be honnest, I feel that the WiiU is the exception to this rule. It's still more expensive than both GC and Wii were at launch. They should have been much more aggressive in dropping the price. It should be €199 by now.
Its not that people can't afford to buy extra systems. I think most people just don't want to. Unless you're a super serious game player you don't want more than one box next to your tv. MAYBE two. And Nintendo is usually the last in line.
It's not the price of the box, it's not having too many systems: It's Nintendo.
Ever have one of those friends that's an authority on everything. Knows it all. Likes telling people the way it is. Is smug and gets defensive when you try to tell him: "Hey dude, ease up a bit!" This person never, ever changes and after a while no one wants to hang around with him anymore...
Nintendo is THAT for the game industry.
Maybe the new Zelda is a sign of things to come and a true change for them...
...but then I read the "It's not about the teraflops" comment... and was reminded... "Yup, that's Nintendo alright!"
I really don't think there's a large part of the COD demographic that would be all that interested in anything Nintendo puts out really. The only games I can see having the potential to reach a much larger demographic are competitive games (Mario Kart, splatoon) and something like Zelda or Metroid. Also, with the average age of the 'gamer' on the steady increase, I wonder how many 'gamer's don't already own a Nintendo console for their kids. Basically, I don't see them selling that much more software if they should go third party, and I doubt the increase would be sufficient as to cover the losses from royalties and whatnot. But we've had this discussion before.
TLG is going to be a shitshow with gross framerate, ass looking visuals and dated game design. Still, people are going to gobble that shit right up becase FUMITO UEDA and will overlook any technical shortcomings because of ueda's vision, emotions and omgsomething dies and made me cry.
Agreed. Also where the fuck is StarTropics 3?
Agreed. I'm not one to use the term overrated but man, is Team ICO ever overrated.
I say yes.
LOL

Nintendo is actually always second. I hardly know anybody with a PS4 and an Xbox One. Or PS3 and 360.

I enjoyed that.
I really liked Ico...thought it was a very unique, atmospheric game at the time. SOTC I didn't like nearly as much but it was still cool. So I'm looking forward to seeing what this game is like.
Woo hoo! Square-Enix is talking to Microsoft about bringing Final Fantasy XIV to Xbox One. Make it so.
I thought it already was?
I'm kind of happy that RE 7 will be a FPS. It might make for a scarier experience.
