Has this actually been confirmed now? This is Kojima we're talking about, the publicity stunt dude.

Konami has removed all the kojima production logos and "hideo kojima game" from MGSV a promo material. Kind of weird but seems like it's for real. Lying about a bunch of people being fired is crazy even for kojima.

i was listening to my favorinte game under podcast today.

In it, I talk abuot a game I have NO MEMORY OF ACTUALLY PLAYING. In fact, if any one had bet me a thousand dollars on my testimony of having played this game I would have doubled down (and lost).

Have you guys ever had a failure of memory about a game (or anything) like this?

... keep in mind my story about waking up twice and not only knowing not what country or room I was in, but actually lacking an identity at all, which I attribute to my bi-nationality and house made up for two buildings.

Oh yeah. Primarily with sub-par RPGs. For instance there was a SNES game called Lagoon that sat on my shelf for years. I know I played it. I remember going out and buying it, and coming home and turning it on. I could not tell you a single detail about the game other than the main character had blonde hair (and now that I look at screenshots, it would appear I'm wrong about his hair so I officially remember nothing about the game). No idea about the story, gameplay, or even really the graphics now. You could put it in front of me with another name, and I'm confident I'd have no idea that I had played it.

yeah that tends to happen with me and paint-by-numbers JRPG's now you mention it.

Unrelated, I wish Blue Dragon had turned into a full franchise.

Um.....wow.

Goodbye Konami. Without Kojima they aren't shit. No Kojima, no team silent. DONE. They are cooked more than Capcom without Mikami or Square without Sakaguchi.

There is something seriously wrong with the way game companies in Japan operate. When they have almost ALL chased away their top talent aka the guys that make them money, obviously a structure change is needed.

And what of Silent Hills? That game is going to fall to pieces without Kojima.

Part of me wants this to be true. Konami fucked Iga (of Castlevania fame) and they whore out Kojima no end, so I;d be cool with him leaving and Konami becoming  a Winning-Eleven Soccer Game Simulator exclusively.

But at the same time, when Japanese greats leave their patron it has geneally turned into them going mobile. Which no-one would want.

My concern is Konami will whore out Metal Gear like nobody's business.  Can't you see them in a board meeting figuring out how to do a MGS 6 without Kojima?  They'll just figure it'll be ok to just come up with the most outlandish shit and hope it sticks.  " Ok, Snake had a long lost sister, Goddess Snake, who he thought was his lover for many years. She actually had his twins, Cain and Abel, who at six years of age, are leaders of a radical group like ISIS. She's a spy trying to take over the world with Metal Gear Rico."

Isn't that actually the plot of MGS anyway?

Of course they will. Prepare for Metal Gear to go from elite status to hopefully, no worse than good filler. It happened to Resident Evil and Final Fantasy, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania and Silent Hill. Not to mention SEGA's entire catalog. It will happen to MGS.

Hyrule Warriors is so good, and a great example of at least one strategy that Nintendo got right on the Wii U.

Instead of having outside developers work on direct sequels to Nintendo IP, like in the Gamecube days, have them instead create spinoff franchises connecting both Nintendo's games AND the developers games. Brilliant. Hyrule Warriors is a perfect example of this done right. Its a win-win situation for all involved.

  1. Its a win for Tecmo Koei, in that they just created basically a new enty in their franchise that is guaranteed to be a hit for them.
  2. Its going to gain their franchise more fans than they had before.
  3. Its a win for Nintendo because they've just created a hit spinoff for the Zelda series, and its one more high quality game for their system.

For me personally, I never had any interest in Dynasty Warriors before. But after playing this game, now I want to go back and check out ALL the Warriors titles.

Hmm.  Nintendo added a lot of digital games to Club Nintendo Europe.  Pricing seems ok.  What do VC games cost these days?  You could buy eShop points with your stars, but it was at a 4 stars per cent ratio, which was ridiculous.  The selection of games, again, is ok.  I'm thinking of picking up the DLC for MK8 (2100stars), the Pikmin shorts on WiiU (1300) and maybe the original NES Remix (2600).

Former Epic president Mike Capps makes a good point concerning VR:

"If slipping on a pair of flicker glasses, is too much trouble - then the idea of, 'Ok I'm going to put on my head mount rig and fire up my liquid cooled PC in order to make it happen' [isn't likely to take off]"

Stating the obvious of course, but I found it to be a good comparision.

Xbox One sells better month-on-month than the Wii U, but that's cold comfort indeed given that Nintendo's console is widely seen as an outright commercial failure, and Nintendo has all but confirmed that it will receive an early bath, with a replacement in the form of Nintendo NX set to be announced in 2016. Microsoft isn't anywhere near that level of crisis, but nor are its sales in 2015 thus far outside the realms of comparison with Wii U - and their installed bases are nigh-on identical

BoF6 still looks kinda good though. And RPGs are the one of the few genres that don't need traditional controllers so maybe it will be okay....

Of course they probably won't translate it for the West anyway so its a moot point.

That Xbox sale article doesn't seem to be based on any facts

I'm actually quite convinced that Microsoft would like to sell the Xbox division and has held exploratory talks to that end; I'm somewhat less convinced, but prepared to believe, that those talks are continuing even now. However, I'm struggling to imagine a buyer. None of Xbox' rivals would be in the market to buy such a large division, and no game company would wish to lumber itself with a platform holder business. Neither Apple nor Google make the slightest sense as a new home for Xbox either; the whole product is distinctly "un-Apple" in its ethos and approach, while Google is broadly wary of hardware and almost entirely disinterested in games.

Amazon was the previously mentioned suitor, and to my mind, remains the most likely purchaser - but it's seemingly decided to pursue its own strategy for living room devices for now, albeit with quite limited success. I could see Amazon still "exploring options" in this regard with Microsoft, but if that deal was going to happen, I would have expected it to happen last year. Who else is out there, then? Netflix, perhaps, is an interesting outside possibility - the company's branching out into creating original TV content as well as being a platform for third-party content would be a reasonably good cultural match for the Game Studios aspect of Xbox,

Just the sites analyst saying that he thinks he's convinced they want to sell it? Wut?
