27th August 2014 – Two new downloadable add-on content packs will take the world of Mario Kart 8 for Wii U in directions the series has never seen before, while significantly expanding gameplay options. The packs, available by the end of November 2014 and end of May 2015 respectively, are available for pre-purchase now at £7.00 each (or £11.00 for both), and deliver an array of new content, including first-time crossover characters like Link from The Legend of Zelda series and both Isabelle and the Villager from the Animal Crossing series.

In addition to these two new add-on content packs, a previously announced game update goes live today that adds a variety of new features, including three free Mercedes-Benz cars that players can race: the modern Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s and the legendary Silver Arrow of the 1930s. As well as game updates, mariokart.tv, the Mario Kart TV web service optimised for smart devices, has also been updated to give users more in-depth game data whilst on the go, including the ability to check at any given time whether friends are playing Mario Kart 8 online.

Each AOC pack will contain two new cups, each with four courses, which, in total, increases the number of available courses by 50 percent. The AOC packs include classics like Wario’s Gold Mine from Mario Kart Wii, as well as new courses, some taking place in the worlds of The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing. New vehicles will also arrive with each pack, including the Blue Falcon kart representing the F-Zero franchise in the first AOC pack.

Mario Kart 8 owners who purchase both packs will get access to eight new colours of Yoshi and eight new colours of Shy Guy to race with immediately. To purchase the packs prior to release, users with a broadband Internet connection can click the new ‘Shop’ icon in the game or visit Nintendo eShop on Wii U.

The AOC packs are scheduled to include the following contents:

Pack 1: The Legend of Zelda X Mario Kart 8 (Release: November 2014) - £7.00

3 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link

4 Vehicles

8 Courses

Pack 2: Animal Crossing X Mario Kart 8 (Release: May 2015) -£7.00

3 Characters: Villager, Isabelle, Dry Bowser

4 Vehicles

8 Courses

Pack 1 + 2 Bundle - £11.00

6 Characters: Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Link, Villager, Isabelle and Dry Bowser

8 Vehicles

16 Courses

As a bonus for purchasing both packs - as a bundle or separately - you can get eight different-coloured Yoshis and eight different-coloured Shy Guys that can be used right away.

What? I can download this on my lumia?

It's only officially available in the US at the moment.  But if you change your settings to USA and your language settings to American English and Cortana will never suspect a thing!  There's better descriptions of what to do exactly online, but I found it to be very easy.  Your phone needs to be running on the recent 8.1 update though.  It's not as if Cortana changes all that much, but I do like how easy it is to make reminders.  And I like that my English isn't so horrible that my phone can't understand what I'm saying.  I mean, how else is the NSA going to track everything I'm saying?

16 extra courses for £11 is pretty good value.  And the other extras look fun too.

I got to try out the hyrule warriors demo at best buy. I pushed buttons and cool shit happened. It's just a bunch of random people on the screen that you don't have to pay attention to, you basically mow them down. There are a few hard enemies with weaknesses, again you basically just mash attacks and win. Goals appear on the touch screen telling you where to go and what to do. First thing was finding bombs, then going to help impa. As you mash bars fill up letting you unleash larger attacks. I tried Zelda for a while and she seems to have a magic system of something that has a little more depth, still you are like a god fighting ants.

the dodongo boss fight was basic, it looked cool. It's like fighting a sea of gnats and every once and a while battling a dude you may have to strafe around and mash a bit. I guess there is some strategy with the map but in the first mission it didn't matter. Production values are nice. I enjoyed it, cool shit happening when pushing buttons is kind of fun, especially when it's Zelda characters.

I just ran system restore on my surface Pro2 because I was experiencing some bad slowdown.  I restored it to an even worse situation where my mail is still all fucked up Hrm  Words can not do my frustration any justice.  Worse, it even seems even more fucked up then last time.  Seems like this might be climaxing towards a full on clean install.  Bugger all.

^ I never use system restore on my computers anymore; I disabled it altogether. All it has ever done was make them worse.

Regrets? I doubt it. If the casual market hadn't abandoned Nintendo, he'd still be on the casual bandwagon. Since they are now gone, all they have left are us core Nintendo fans.

Angry Miyamoto is best Miyamoto!

[These are] the sort of people who, for example, might want to watch a movie. They might want to go to Disneyland,” he said.

“Their attitude is, ‘okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me.’ It’s kind of a passive attitude they’re taking, and to me it’s kind of a pathetic thing. They do not know how interesting it is if you move one step further and try to challenge yourself [with more advanced games].”

Miyamoto’s comments mark the first time a Nintendo executive, and a longstanding member on its board of directors, has publicly outlined intentions to shift away from casual customers.

In an age where Apple and Android smartphones have become the leading games platforms for the casual audience, Miyamoto says Nintendo no longer needs to reach out to those customers.”In the days of DS and Wii, Nintendo tried its best to expand the gaming population,” he said.”Fortunately, because of the spread of smart devices, people take games for granted now. It’s a good thing for us, because we do not have to worry about making games something that are relevant to general people’s daily lives.”

Yes!!!! Preach it! But that still doesn’t erase the years and years of casual shit you made. Plus the Wii U is not exactly a hardcore gaming platform so wtf were you doing when you made that? At least it bodes well for their future games not that that was ever an issue.

PHONY. Hasn't made a challenging game since the 2D Marios.

Now you're weird. Wii U owners are casuals? It's the most hardcore platform at the moment as you have to be devoted to buy a specialised device with a limited library.

Why are all you bastards talking about MK8 and none of you can post a fecking link? Seriously what world am I living in?! angry

No the Wii U is not built for the hardcore as it cant support all the new 3rd party games of this generation, not that they would make the games for it but it would have helped. It still has no true online system in place. The Wii U was still a casual friendly system.

I just picked up Metro Redux on the PS4 at Target....its only $50, maybe the best deal on the console right now.
I looked it up on Targets website yesterday, said they had it. So I go this morning and they still didn't have it on the shelf yet, I had to ask for it.

Dude checked to see if they had it, goes in the back for like 5 minutes, & comes out with it. This is normally the kind of disorganization I expect asking for a Nintendo game.

I mean it came out yesterday & never got put out?
