Yeah, what they said. Also GG is right in that the window for registering MK8 is until the end of July. Don't know if that means that's how long the free game download code is valid for. Probably not. There was no mention of an expiration date for the free game code during any of the steps

What free game did everyone claim with MK8?
MH3U. I didn't care much for the free games, so I figured I might as well get this and try to get some co-op action in with Bugs. Which we still need to settle on.
I think mine got downloaded already. I left the console on while I left the flat at some point yesterday evening and when I got back I found that the U had autoswitched itself off due to inactivity. This gave me a scare as I remembered having had to restart a download when this happened previously but luckily not only did I not have to do that but it had also kept downloading while it was in sleep mode (I think this was introduced with the latest update)!
How does the mutliplayer in MH work?

If it's anything like Tri, there's just servers with 'rooms' and you just have to meet up in one. I think there was some sort of friend system as well. But I don't think it's a good idea to jump into online play first time you turn on. Early MH is quite a drag as it involves a lot of foraging for weeds and killing small beasts. Things only start to pick up once you have some of those cat creatures running farms for you.
edit: also, I don't know if Tri includes voice chat during play, if not we'd be wise to get it up and running over skype or something. The actual fights aren't too strategic, but I'd hate to have to rotate through all the icons in the heath of battle just because I'd like to borrow one of your potions since I came to the fight unprepared
Not sure if you guys remember me having issues with getting PS4 to output Linear PCM surround sound, but I found the solution.
Apparently its an issue with certain receivers, many of which are Sony models hilariously enough, like mine. When I put my PS4 in Linear PCM mode, and my new Xbox One I just got (yep...I figured why wait....lmao) they both default to 2 channel stereo sound instead of 5.1.
The funny thing is, I don't have this problem with the Wii U.....Wii U goes right into 5.1 like its supposed to. For PS4 and Xbox One, I found out yesterday you have to go into your receivers settings menu where there is an HDMI option. Click on that, and it will give you the option to run audio through BOTH TV/AMP, or just AMP. If you have it set to TV/AMP it fucks with the PS4 and Xbox One, and they think you only have a 2 channel setup. You have to select AMP only, then the fucking consoles finally realize they are plugged into a receiver, and automatically adjust into 5.1 glorious uncompressed audio.
I hope this helps any of you who may have this problem.
I don't have a headset for the WiiU. I may have to get one.
Also ... sounds like I may need some help or I will hit a big concrete wall early on like I did a few years ago with Tri on Wii. I may need some guidance as to what it is I should try to do in single player ealry on so as I don't wander about aimlessly trying to find little dinosaurs to kill

The update from a couple of months back means everything is background downloaded and installed. You don't have to leave your Wii U powered up, just turn it off and leave your internet on. The system does the rest.
I don't have a headset either. For all I know voice chat isn't natively supported.
MH is the type of game I will consult wiki's for. Just to see what I need to get certain gear, which gear I'll want, and what combines into what. Early on you'll be mostly looking for honey and weeds, whatever they were called, to make potions. Then, when you can't carry any more, you'll try to take on a bigger monster, fail horribly, and spend the next hour restocking on potions.
Sound advice. I'll take heed! This sounds like a Dark Souls type game except more multiplayer orientated. Sounds like it could be awesome

I have casually been playing Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze this week. I'm about three worlds in. I'm reminded by how very impressed Leo and Travo and the guys who were playing it here around the time of release were. The game is incredible. The HD visuals, the incredible sound just make such a world of difference, I'd have never thought. I thought the original DKCR on the Wii looked stunning and played incredibly well. This game is more of the same but at the same time the more powerful console makes it better in every department. The world feels even more alive than it did in the Wii game. I love it, and I'm pleased the gaming gods at Retro made this. It also makes me hate New Super Mario U even more. Nintendo needs to make a proper 2D Mario for it's new console and not that rushed sorry excuse of a game. OR maybe somebody else will, using Mario Maker

wtf is this?
You guys...
http://mynintendonews.com/2013/02/18/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-update-brings-voice-chat-usb-keyboard-support/
http://www.siliconera.com/2013/02/19/monster-hunter-3-ultimate-gets-voice-chat-and-other-features-from-latest-update/
Starting today, whenever you start up Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, it will automatically update itself as long as it’s connected to a network.
The voice chat support will allow players to use the Wii U GamePad as a microphone or you can also connect your own headphone or headset to the GamePad, if you prefer. The Wii U microphone will also be connected by USB. You’ll have the option to hear the chat voices from either the GamePad or directly from the TV.
In addition to the voice chat support, the update made it possible for players to use their own USB keyboards, which can also be used as a chat input device.
Last but not least, they’ve also added the option of being able to use the Wii U GamePad’s ZL and ZR buttons to change the camera angle. This update was done so it can feel closer to the controls of the Nintendo 3DS and XL’s Circle Pad pro.
England down 1-0 to Uruguay at half time. Heads will roll if they lose tonight. Frankly they deserve to though.
