Shart of Nightmare! Oh man!
Shart? That's got to be a typo there Travo. I assume you meant to type Fart of Nightmare?
You know what a shart is right?
Well I must be going blind as I can't find the GAF thread on Kaz's paycut anywhere and I checked the first 8 pages of the forum. Maybe someone will bump it later.
EDIT: It was bumped to the front page
Still, looking at the reporting of the story compared to Nintendo's recent (something like) £134 million loss is pretty different. On the day that story aired it headlined at every site and stuck there at the top with a pic to boot. I go to CVG and Eurogamer and the story is buried within all the other updates. On other sites it's not even mentioned at all. Yup just checked, at CVG you have to do 6 full page screen scrolls down to even see the story listed. Eurogamers top stickied story is Bound by Flame review followed by MS Paywall. VG24/7 you have to do 5 full page scroll downs to see the story listed, when Nintendo announced their loss it was the top stickied story with a picture on the top of the page at that site.
What's interesting about the Sony stories is that even with PS4 doing well, it's sales are still below historical sales:
PS4 sales 45% below what the brand was achieving at peak
"Regardless of PS4 sales, even if Sony hits its 20m PlayStation hardware unit sales for the fiscal year that’s still 45 per cent below what the brand was achieving at its peak. In 2002 global PlayStation console shipments hit 22m. This fell to around 19m in 2004 before climbing to 36m in 2007. Since then its been in steady decline"
Cycles. Why don't they mention cycles?
I facepalmed reading Eurogamers ill judged story about the paycuts:
First off, why bring up Nintendo in a story about Sony? Just to put the boot in again? And unlike Sony, Nintendo posted losses that were less than 20% of what Sony just flushed down the toilet. PS4 is a "shining light"?
"But unlike Nintendo, Sony's flagship console - PS4 - is enjoying great success. It's a shining light in amongst all the gloom"
Jesus the fanboyism. Eurogamer just twists everything Nintendo related these days, they only seem to sticky bad stories about them at the top and bury everything else.
New reviews in the Movie reference thread:

I made the same Shart of Nightmare joke in my head when I read that. Nice to see I'm amongst likeminded individuals.
I'm reading the thread now, what the fuck?
The hell? When Iwata took a pay cut it was pandemonium, smartphones, sell off, ditch consoles etc. Fire Iwata, massive hyperbole. Kaz takes a hit and he's being honourable.
Then one guy at the end says "THINGS ARE WORSE THAN EVER" in capital letters
but no one's listening.
Damn, PS3 hit them hard.
From the GAF Iwata Pay cut thread:
In the feed I saw "gamingeek" and "shart of nightmare" and feared the worst.
I'm halfway through Gravity.
More like an Epcot ride than a movie. Would be great in the cinema as an experience but kinda boring-ish at home.

R.I.P. H. R. Giger.
I liked it as it was something rather unique. You don't see 'realistic scifi' in movies a lot. But then again, it could have been more. Too much action, too many happy coincidences.
I think MS is blowing a huge opportunity, they could so easily make Xbone attractive at 299 pricing it at 400 offers no incentive to buy. You could already get it at 400 with a few games if you were a good consumer. They are being greedy and stubborn and they are going to be sorry. I would buy it at 299 with Kinect even though I have a PS4 MS needs to hit a more ACCEPTABLE mass appeal #
It is listing X as "Xenogears: Origins" which doesn't really make sense unless Nintendo purchase the Xenogears name from Square-Enix.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
MEGATON!!!! MMMMEEEEGGGAAATTTTOOONN!!!
Nice to wake up in the morning to insane news. So MS pulled its head of of its ass and cut the price, removed the kinect, good for them (hey nintendo pay attention). Even Gold got a facelift to battle Plus. This is why competition works. The 180 by MS is basically complete.
Begun these console wars have.
That Game of Thrones/Super Mario video is priceless!
Yeah those are crazy news, not because of the magnitude of the price cut, but because it completely shatters Microsoft's product messaging, the very same one they've been trying to ram down everyone's throats since the day Kinect was released: That Kinect was integral to Microsoft's view of gaming.
From Nintendo Q&A with stock holders.
I would like to know when Nintendo will launch its next-generation video game systems. Should we expect Nintendo not to introduce new hardware in the next three years? It appears that financial analysts and investors are now expecting Nintendo to make a real comeback with its next-generation hardware, but given the competitive environment that surrounds the company, should we perhaps think that it is now becoming more likely that Nintendo’s next-generation hardware will be introduced earlier than Nintendo expected? Also, although I suppose the answer to this question will be that your next-generation hardware will have to adopt a groundbreaking design concept that has never been seen before, I would like Mr. Iwata to tell me, to the extent possible, what kinds of ideas he has at the moment in terms of bringing out something that we have never experienced before.
Iwata:
Once we launch a new platform, we naturally start to prepare for the next one. As it takes several years to develop a single platform, if you ask us whether we are preparing for our next system, then the correct response will be that we are always developing new hardware. On the other hand, the most difficult question for us to answer in public in concrete terms is when we are going to launch our new hardware and what kind of hardware we are going to launch, and I am afraid that I cannot talk about this in more detail. However, I can certainly assure you that we are not at a dead end of any kind in which we are out of ideas for developing new hardware. I of course believe that launching new hardware will not produce good results unless we first make sure that those who have already purchased our platforms are satisfied. We will continue to work hard to ensure that consumers who already own our platforms are satisfied, and make sure that people will continue to see great value in our software, but I would like to say that we are preparing for our next hardware system, and in fact, we already have a clear idea to some extent about the direction our next hardware is going to take.
