So I got Lego Marvel Superheroes for Christmas and played several levels in.

I expected to love it based on Lego City but I pretty much hated it all till the open world started. Is this what other Lego games are like? Randomly bashing through levels with no skill? Bash bash, smash, bash, it's endless. And the game uses the PRESS A REPEATEDLY for everything. Sure there was a lot of that in City but it made sense to bash A when you were hacking at a rock with a pickaxe. Here you press A repeatedly for everything except for inexplicable situations where you have to press Y instead..... repeatedly? It's also not as logical and easy to decipher on screen clues as it was in City, you have to really, really search around for parts where you get stuck, like a tiny object you missed breaking to make a tight rope.

And the game is built around multiplayer. In City you swapped costumes for abilities but you were always the same character. Here you swap between several characters in the same level. Sometimes the characters all follow each other and it's not a problem. In other levels you make it halfway into the level only to realise you need the other character, so you switch and you have to repeat the whole section again as the other character, it's laborious.

The script is utterly lame, there is no comedy to be had. It's not 'for kids' comedy it's not even so bad it's good comedy. It's a limp penis. It commits the worst sin of comedy, there are no laughs to be had at all. In 4 hours play there was one laugh when hulk called wolverine "bad sideburns guy". There are lines here with no punch to the line. Spiderman whines about his Aunt and angst, with no purpose or joke in it. And despite the range of voice actors here, most culled from the Avengers Assemble Series, most, other than Steve Blum as Wolverine deliver their lines in the slowest and worst way imaginable. It's really like they are talking to a class full of children rather than acting it.

So they force you to play through several levels before the open world and the first is okay, most of you played the demo? It's a bit bashy but then you are into the second level which is horrible and suddenly the frame rate takes a nose dive for no reason. Because the third level looks awesome and has a totally solid frame rate... makes no sense.

Then the open world opened up. It seems pretty cool but nowhere near the level of City, which was built for verticality and platforming, this is mostly flat and even when it isn't you can just fly and drop as Iron Man so what's the point of platforming? The second screen map is useful but also neutured compared to City. City showed the whole city in segments and let you use the touch screen to interact and grab info etc.

This city as well, without a gold brick scanner wandering seems kinda aimless. There are also bits where audio is missed when talking to NPCs for missions... odd.

The graphics are great though, in the open world everything has AA unlike Lego City (curse you City) so it's much crisper and better looking. Also I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy bombing around causing destruction as the hulk or cruising through the skies as Iron Man.

So it's getting better and I think if the open world reveals more pleasures it could redeem itself. But there's no question in my mind now after playing this and numerous other Lego demos - Lego City is different and much better. It may not start as funny as you would expect but it gets there in the end and the even the missions are more logical and more enjoyable. The open world is better and more explorable and the script is 10x as good as this.

Looking at my Nintendo stars/points account now, since they put in the rule about using them within a year they've expired 3150 stars, over three thousand! Fucks sake, that Luigi's Mansion statue could have been mine. This is why I stopped registering products with them.

Crooks.

That's like 12 games.

My fave Christmas film is A Christmas Carol the Musical, it's like a live action Disney movie and features the music of Alan Menken who did many of the most famous Disney soundtracks. It's cheesy as hell but it really lifts your spirits and makes it feel like Christmas.

On another note Animal Crossing does more to make it feel lime Christmas than anything else, it always snows near the day, you can get special items, even dress up as santa and deliver gifts. Or put a massive tree up in your house.

I had no problems with the fetch quest, with the faster sail and a few of the shards were on land too. Love gyro aiming too I want to see more shooters on U with gyro aiming but with bounding boxes IR style. WW is great but still the weakest home console Zelda. It still feels short and a little light too. Great to play it again and it looks glorious too - I want Sunshine HD now.

So Resident Evil is done then? How did they lose the vision for this franchise so badly? I know they lost Mikami and others but still.

I enjoyed re6 as the silly action game it was but yeah I think the days of this series being a top tier franchise is done.
