Forgot I had a PS4 until today when I downloaded Doki Doki Universe... Game is mostly a graphic adventure with some personality quizzes thrown in to make things interesting. So far it's told me I am Kind-Hearted, Creative, Generous, Hardworking, Free-Spirited, I long for the Security of a Family, I like Off-Beat, Irreverant Humor and Bright, Colorful things...

...obviously there's something wrong with it. Wait for a patch, maybe?

$14.99. It's a novelty, a "feel good" game. It's something I'll try and like **love?** but will probably not be as appreciated by most.

I'm also playing ZombiU right now (utterly sucking ass at it, but enjoying it), and it's sort of made me wonder about something. All last year I heard all this crap about what an amazing experience Journey was. I think by now we are all aware of my opinion of Journey, so let's just say I disagree with that. However I really do feel that way about ZombiU. Whether or not you think the gameplay is any good the whole experience around it is amazing. It does a remarkably good job of switching your focus to the Wii U tablet, and even lulling you into a sense that you can rely on the tablet for navigating and everything else. And of course whenever that happens.... you're fucked. But it's still just remarkable. This is an actual experience in my book. I know I won't finish this game, but for now I'm enjoying just playing it because of that.

I suck at it too but I think I will eventually finish it.  My basic strategy is to wait at a door or narrow corridor so the zombies reach a bottle-neck and can only really come at me one at a time (or practically one at a time) and smash them with the cricket bat (like gg said).  I die a lot but I think for the most part I have been progressing through it even if the progress is slow.  Having a "big brother" type guiding you and telling you where to go and what to do helps a lot.  Having to look at both my radar and at the screen at the same time is very stressful but I guess it adds to the tension and the fun

Microsoft said today that its Xbox One console has now sold more than 2 million hardware units worldwide, just over two weeks after it launched

It's nice to see console gaming is not dead, but in the scheme of things, let's combine the two companies for a second and say that a hot new console came out and sold 4 million units in 3 weeks (global sales).  That's not particularly great right?  I mean don't some $400 smart phones do that on the first weekend?

A gallon of milk sells more than that every damn day. Milk is where its at.

Can't argue with logic.

Needless to say, my brain and body have no fucking idea what time/ day it is.

It's fun reading your impressions. Need to replay it at some point. Only thing that slightly annoyed me is that the radar pinging is taken away from you later in the game. And they could have doubled the value of the game by enacting a FPS mode once you completed it. There are enough guns and enemies to do it.

But there is actual stuff to do in ZombiU so that alone makes it much better than Journey.

In my opinion, Zombi U is the most underrated launch game of all time. I had an absolute BLAST playing that game, and interacting with GG and Dvader, and Leo and Bear in game and in Miiverse at the same time. And being the first game I experienced on the Wii U made my impression of the system itself that much stronger than it would have been just playing a MEH game. I honestly could not, and still can't, believe how awesome Zombi U is...it boggles my mind how many people talked shit about it because the experience I had was in a different universe than all the assholes saying it was crap. Fuck you, go play an action game. It was amazing playing an actual HORROR game again.

Hands down, most underrated launch game of all time. And I feel sick that they won't make another one.

Couldn't agree more!  I bought ZombiU along with my premium wiiU...  And have it still shrinked wrapped  blush  There's just something about zombies that scares the shit out of me.  I'm still looking forward to playing it, one day.

Early U.S reviews gave it bad rap.

  • Gamespot 4.5
  • Gameinformer 5.00
  • EGM 55/100
  • Gamesradar 3/5
  • IGN 6.3
  • Gametrailers 6.5

What version were they playing?

My Zombi U experience was cancelling my pre-order bundle when bad U.S reviews started coming in, only for good reviews and word of mouth from Edgecrusher, Bear and Vader convincing me it must be tried. It didn't blow me away or anything but it was great fun, it was cool to play an actual survival horror and not just an action game. And as a launch game it ticked all the boxes in offering a new and unique experience with a new IP. I kinda feel the same way about Nintendoland to a lesser extent. That game just showed potential scenarios for pad use - good and bad - but at least it felt new.

Found this interesting

Why you can't play 360 games on Xbox One - developers talk backwards compatibility

"This is a question that a lot of people ask at the beginning of a new console generation," our main source began. "Sometimes it is a valid point, but this time around there is little chance of that happening."

There are, broadly speaking, two ways of bringing about backwards compatibility on a console - incorporating the older console's components into the new hardware, as was the case with PS2 and PS1, or running a "virtual machine" that mimics the capabilities of the older console.

The first of these solutions can be prohibitively expensive, even when you allow for a fall in the price of the components in question. The second idea sounds more plausible on paper - surely, a console as advanced as the Xbox One should have no trouble simulating the eight year old Xbox 360? In practice, however, there simply isn't enough CPU power available - a limitation that's also apparently true of PS3 emulation on PS4.

"If you wanted to emulate something then you need a virtual machine that runs around it and converts instructions from one language into another, which requires large amount of CPU power, which is not available in either the Xbox One or PS4," our source explained.

Thus, "your only option would be to get the original source code and then try to port it", but this is "is not as straightforward as it sounds", because the consoles use completely different components and processing architectures.

"Let's say that I am porting a 'simple' Arcade title, that didn't really tax the system too much and just ran three threads, one per CPU and obviously used the GPU. This would mean that each thread could run at 3.2Ghz and run the game quite smoothly.

"Now, if we try to compile and run this on the Xbox One we immediately hit an issue... if we run the three threads, one per core, then the cores are only running at 1.75Ghz each! This is around half the speed of the Xbox360, so the game will run like treacle."

Is the last bit relevant to Wii U ports of 360 skus too? This X1 dev is saying even with the source code porting is not straightforward and games can run slower because of different components and architectures.
