His dismissal of the 3DS is baffling.

It kind if makes me want to punch him. He made a comment in either this story or another about the 3DS's future that said "Pokemon XY will generate a little interest in the system." Seriously?? Gamer Armageddon is going to be unleashed that day.

I think he's going to push back on the 3DS for a while. He spent the last 2 years proclaiming handheld gaming was dead on the basis that his daughters preferred to play games on their phones. He can't go back now without saying he's wrong.

Wow:

PS4 only guarantees 4.5 gb RAM for game use

Has 1GB of "flexible memory" reserves 3.5GB for the Operating system

PlayStation 4 reserves 3.5GB of its 8GB GDDR5 memory for the operating system, leaving 4.5GB of space for game code, according to current PlayStation 4 documentation shown to Digital Foundry by a well-placed development source. However, further sources suggest that an additional 1GB of "flexible memory" may be reclaimed from the OS reservation, based on availability.

Sony's internal docs say that 4.5GB is the baseline amount of guaranteed memory available for game-makers (note the memory usage of the Killzone: Shadow Fall demo) and most likely what the lion's share of launch titles will be using. However, other sources close to Sony indicate that developers can request up to an additional gigabyte of "flexible memory", and use it to boost elements of the game - but only if the background OS can spare it. We're told that incorporating this isn't trivial, and it may well be that to begin with only first-party developers target its usage.

The news that the PS4's OS reservation is in the same ballpark as Xbox One's equivalent 3GB allocation is sure to surprise many, especially bearing in mind that previously leaked Sony docs have only spoken of a 512MB allocation for the system software - though this information hails from the era where the new PlayStation was slated to ship with only 4GB of memory.

So Xbone uses 3GB RAM for the OS, PS4 uses 3.5 GB

That's huge. Any notion of PS4 having a full 8GB of GDDR high speed ram for game use is out the window. Also according to Digital foundry each machine uses two CPU cores for the OS. So 6 low powered Jaguar cores (efficient lower power netbook CPUs made to rival Intels' Atom)

More:

There are many parallels with the Xbox One. Both consoles allocate two Jaguar CPU cores to the operating system, and what sounds like a disproportionately higher level of RAM than one might expect - especially in comparison to PC, where Windows operates perfectly well with less than a gig of memory at its disposal.

As it stands, both next-gen consoles will launch with 8GB of unified memory, but with a significantly diminished amount actually available to games developers.

With this news the PS4s' advantage over X1 is mostly left to the GPU being better?

Sup Pikmin 3 has a swarm feature, using wii mote lock on with Z then shake nunchuk. Amazing the wii remote still feels like some device from the future because no one else is innovating in the controller field. The u pad is used well too, you get a touch screen map that actually moves the full 3d environment on the main screen plus a close up ground level photo mode. I'm only 10 minutes in but I'm sure there will be more.

So how are you playing? Using both controllers or just one? Which one is better, the remote or the gamepad?

Both. For main gameplay the wii remote and for additional features the gamepad which is either on the stand on the table or in my lap. Best of both worlds, it sounds convoluted but the game never demands you having to use both at the same time and the touch screen controls are well worked and never finnicky. Also, you guys don't pre-judge Pikmin 3s gamepad use before you try it, even using the remote the pad adds great features, you can even set rts like way points on the map and send pikmin there. Your touch scrolls the whole environment on the hdtv too and the upad is used like a Pikmin OS iPad, which is hilarious. It also has off screen play and a camera mode where you can take ground level super close photos. BTW everything is real time, none of the screens you've seen are fake or anything, it's particularly impressive when go into camera mode to look at plants. Ground textures can look soft but when well lit they come alive with detail.

Pikmin 3 feels like the first truly great Nintendo quality game on the system. Definite system seller IMO in quality terms, it smokes NSMB and Nintendoland, Game and Wario etc. You can see my screens on Miiverse, U owners.

yeh, didn't really get the swarm function yet. I'll check it out tonight... I agree that the gamepad functionality is ace though. It's much more of a game changer then you'e think at first glance. I played the game standing up (as i do with most console gaming) and was balancing the gamepad on one arm Nyaa

This doesn't surprise me at all...everything Nintendo has done on the system up to now is more of a B level test than a major game. Pikmin 3 seems like the first REAL Nintendo game on the U, and hopefully the start of many from now on. As I said, I fully expect this to overtake Zombi U as my favorite game on the U so far.

Penis powered video game gets Oculus Rift support.

http://kotaku.com/penis-powered-game-gets-oculus-rift-support-919896530

Custom Maid 3D, the erotic computer game with a cock controller, is grinding out a historic update: Oculus Rift support. VR gaming with things people put their penises in will never be the same!

Thanks to a new beta patch, now players can enjoy virtual reality head-mounted gaming as they enjoy controlling the game with their dicks—should they have one! As website Destructoid points out, the new patch supposedly makes this the first sex game with Oculus Rift support, beating Wicked Paradise.

As previously mentioned, the wireless peripheral controller is actually called "Ju-C Air." It has an analog stick and an action button as well as a right and a left click, and the controller will respond and react in real time to your stroke speed and depth, but ignores feelings of shame and guilt.

Told you Ocukus Rift was the future. Nyaa
