I think that is why you are so interested in the oculus rift.  Moving from 2d to 3d was not supplanted by the move from 3d (polygonal) to hd (close but no cigar).  The next possible jump woudl be hd to holodeck.

Yup, plus I know everyone will want to try it out.

First the nostalgia of that time, like they mentioned NOTHING will ever compare to us going from 2D to 3D. It was the most magical wonderous time in gaming history. Every game was like this new mindblowing world.

Before the Wii was released, I fully believed that motion controls were going to be the next big leap in gaming, just like going from 2D to 3D. Man, was I ever deluded.

I remember a time in my life where i felt like every new game i bought would be the next big leap in gaming.

Can someone explain this episode crap with Revelations? I'm 4 episodes in, and not sure I understand the point of it, unless it was released as episodic content originally and I somehow didn't notice. Is it just an aesthetic choice?

Given the rest of us plebians only have access to the demo, and not the full game you may have to go to one of you insider sites.

...

unless someone here played the 3ds version i guess.

I assumed this was a thing with the 3DS as on the wikipedia page one of the stubs is episodic content...if it's not, someone please tell me so I can delete the post lol.

Hmm, now that I think about it, I believe my man-child tendencies died when I finally realized that motion controls weren't going to be the next big leap in gaming. Sad

The Wii U version is cleary inferior graphically and mechanically. The Wii U version has a sort of studder to it as it moves, I guess that is low framerate. Interestingly enough on the gamepad the game rums perfectly smooth. I later compared it to the 3DS version and its the same effect that turning on the 3D has, the game gets a bit more choppy, except the Wii U as no 3D so I don't get it. Meanwhile the PS3 version runs silky smooth, looks beautiful.

Now I'm getting the PS3 version.

Wow thanks for sharing. That video as awesome and funny as it is actually bummed me out on two fronts.

First the nostalgia of that time, like they mentioned NOTHING will ever compare to us going from 2D to 3D. It was the most magical wonderous time in gaming history. Every game was like this new mindblowing world.

Secondly is for me I miss having moments like those guys shared. I had a bunch of friends who played video games growing up but as the years went on it was clear that no one I knew loved gaming like I did. So I really didn't have many oppertunities to share a gaming moment like that with others who understood what it meant to be getting a new console or major game. Many of my best gaming memories come from those communal moments. The day we got the NES, which might be the earliest memory I have, me, my brother, my dad, my uncle all watching this tiny screen with Mario (and Rush'N Attack for whatever reason). The day my dad randomly bought a Genesis and we recreated that same night. The day I got my Saturn and my brother got the Playstation and I pretended I got the better system when I actually knew better.

And above all, my greatest gaming memory. The one that shall never be beaten. The night my brother brought home Resident Evil, and my best friend came by and we had a RE sleep over party. That game changed everything. Since then most all my memories was just me alone. Like the night I brought home Resident Evil 2 and my brother and friend were no where to be found. The day I got Metal Gear Solid and I knew I was playing something monumental but it was just me. The christmas I got the Dreamcast, yes it was nice shiny, state of the art but after a bit of watching, no one cared.

And well that is why I am on these boards. I need to connect with other people that care the way I do about this hobby.

I have some memories like that with the Wii.  Me and my friend were really really excited and had been looking forward to it so much (like Cartman in that South Park episode) and I got one on launch day along with Twilight Princess and an extra controller and went back to his, unpacked it ceremoniously and played Wii Sports waving our arms around like complete idiots but really enjoying it.  Good times.

How in the world did Nintendo manage to make a console that takes longer to download and install shit than the PS3. I thought that was impossible. I just downloaded Revelations on both, PS3 finished up much quicker, installed quicker. It did have a smaller download but I started it a few minutes after the Wii U download started.

Could be the server or traffic but I read the write speed on the internal HDD ain't great. If you use an external drive it's faster.

Okay, sorry for the "all".  Maybe if you had given a response more than "no" we both could have saved a lot of time.

I don't always have a keyboard handy so if you ever see short replies by me it's because of that.

The #1 selling Wii U game on the UK charts (not sure if monthly or weekly) sold 1000 units. GG is a rare species in the UK.

You have no idea what it's like here. U has no advertising, no store presence. Imagine going into a shop and there is a massive selection of (1) U game to buy on store shelves? That's what all these UK bad sales stories are missing, no one has gone out there to find out from retail and distribution channels why Wii U is like a phantom spirit. No one is putting those game sales into context - if games are unavailable to buy with no advertising what do you expect?

So I played the Revelations demo many times on both Wii U and PS3. The demo runs fine, neogaf as usual is insane. The game looks amazing on a TV and the new models are noticable. Anyone who has not played this and like RE needs to buy it. Trust me, Raid mode is worth the price alone.

That being said there are issues but these issues are the equivalent of first world problems compared to third world problems. The Wii U version is cleary inferior graphically and mechanically. The Wii U version has a sort of studder to it as it moves, I guess that is low framerate. Interestingly enough on the gamepad the game runs perfectly smooth. I later compared it to the 3DS version and its the same effect that turning on the 3D has, the game gets a bit more choppy, except the Wii U has no 3D so I don't get it. Meanwhile the PS3 version runs silky smooth, looks beautiful.

Next are the controls. The lack of gyro controls means its practically impossible to play the game using classic RE4 controls on harder difficulties or raid mode. You need to be able to aim and shoot and the same time, the only way to do this is to go to shooter mode. Its fine but I never liked twin stick movement for RE. On the Wii U the analog sticks simply have too much of a dead zone, small movements of the stick force you to push the stick too much which usually results in you over shooting the target. The PS3's sticks respond much better, much smaller dead zone. Simply put the PS3 version (and I assume 360 version) looks better and plays better.

As for the demo itself, the infernal mode is awesome. Why are people complaining about the demo. You try to go backwards and reach the outside of the ship on Infernal difficulty. I still have my issues with the combat, and I think you can clearly see the problems on infernal mode (bullet sponge enemies, small hallways, leads to lots of backtracking and shooting. No where near the level of strategy needed to handle RE4/5 crowds). Infernal mode is probably only going to be fun when you start a new game + with much better weaponry.

Me, Robio and Edge have no framerate problems with the demo, you are one of those unfortunate guys. Check what resolution your system is set to on tv settings. Try 720p. As for dead zones in aiming with u's sticks I noticed it on Zombi u and Revelations but the actual sticks do not have large dead zones. You can test it yourself on the internet channel. Zoom in and use the left stick to move about the page, it responds accurately to tiny movements near the center. Try zooming with the right stick - it's very sensitive and accurate. Must be a software level tool problem rather than a system fault.

UK GAF on what UK retail is like:

So, UK retail is pretty terrible right now.
Or at least for 3DS games. I spent a good few hours tonight going around my local mall looking for Fire Emblem Awakening. I looked in Toys R' Us, ASDA, Sainsburys, HMV, PC World, and GAME. I only managed to find the game in the final store, and for the cringe-worthy price of £39.99. I was going to cave and buy it, only to be told it was out of stock. HMV too was particularly pathetic, the 3DS "chart" consisted of Spirit Camera and Lego Batman 2. I had a similar situation a month ago when Luigi's Mansion 2 came out. When I went into ASDA on release day and asked if they had a copy, they claimed they hadn't got it in, "maybe tomorrow".

I understand that internet shopping is always going to be better, but it just feels like they're not even making an effort anymore. I surmised this might be a problem with Nintendo's stocks, but on further inspection the Xbox 360/PS3 sections in the store were anemic too, perhaps a little less so.
