"Dare I attempt Super Mario 64? No."
Yes. As long as you film it.
Assuming you have a problem with 3D platformers as well as 2D ones.
Body Harvest, Hybrid Heaven. Jet Force Gemini
I have all three of those. I recently tried Body Harvest and it was fairly unplayable. Beyond the bad camera I think it was the really poor checkpointing that did me in. I may give it another go.
Jet Force Gemini I did not like when it first came out, but I've matured as a gamer since then, so that may be a good one too. I have no idea what Hybrid Heaven is, I know the name but I've never looked at the box (will do so now).
I don't suck at 3D platformers. They typically are tolerant of my pace. I generally don;t enjoy them much after 10 hours, but I can play them.
Disregard what I said then. Bored Aspro sounds boring.
Ohhh.. That doesn't sound like it's for me (Hybrid Heaven),
Hybrid Heaven takes many elements from standard 3-D action-adventure games, such as Tomb Raider. The player can move in any direction, jump, crawl, climb, and shoot. The player must solve puzzles by disabling electronic weapons or through skillful manoeuvering.
However, when battling a monster (called a "biological weapon" in Hybrid Heaven), the game switches to a completely different mode. The player is constrained to a small room and can no longer jump, crawl, or climb. The monster and the player move around for strategic position in the room. When they are close enough, and have built up enough energy, one or the other will decide to attack. At that point time freezes and a single round similar to a role-playing video game turn ensues: the attacker picks an attack from a list, the defender picks a defense, and the results are displayed. After the attack, both monster and player return to jockeying for position in realtime. All of this can happen within seconds, which keeps the action flowing more naturally than in most RPGs.
Because of this, the Vs. Battle Mode plays like a regular 3D fighting game but with some unique RPG elements. In addition to regular punching, kicking, and grappling attacks, energy can be saved up to five times to allow for combos, achieved by either the player editing their own during a fight (one move at a time), or by choosing preset or saved combos. The battle system of Hybrid Heaven has a strong emphasis on leveling up. Experience using an offense or a defense directly correlates with the player's statistical abilities when performing that move in the future, with separate statistics for each limb, the torso, and the head.
As our regular listeners will attest to whenever you talk about Killzone 2.
How much of the internet do you think is video game related?
Arkham a dev working on Wii U has elaborated on that wii u spec thing from yesterday, which apparently, came from him:
"Wow vgleaks.com didnt even change a single word or my formatting... That part is kind of sad. I should have made something up just to make them(and who ever "shared" my discussion) look bad "
Originally Posted by Arkam:

Nice. Also he said:
"But the same problems are still present if you are porting a game over from the Xbox360. So if companies dont want to invest retooling games, you will get crappy(downgraded) ports. That said,I am nothing but excited for the console and cant't wait to see the first round of games made from the ground up on the WiiU. That is when we will see what this little beast can do!"
This is a great read
Farewell to the Wii, A Great Gaming System After All
By Stephen Totilio
That's an off putting way of describing the game. The platforming elements have no element of danger or timing, you are not going to die and there is no pressure. You see a opening, you walk up and press a button to climb up. There is some over the shoulder shooting, bare bones, simple, not hard. Then it's the combat which is the great thing, I haven't played anything as unique or satisfying since. It's a cross between realtime and menu turn based. You move your character to the right position like a boxer setting up a punch. Depending on where you are you then hit a button to attack which brings up a menu showing you what you can do. Based on your body position you can do different moves, like left hook, or backflip, leg sweep that kind of thing and your position means it has a certain level of effectiveness. If you are too far away or too close your punch will not be that effective etc. It's really satisfying and fairly simple to use. The other reason to play this game was that it was the N64s MGS in a way with great cutscenes and atmosphere. It's fairly short and has an aliens conspiracy vibe.
Note, play it widescreen with the N64 expansion pak enabled.
I find it shocking that his games are not alphabetized and that he keeps his Wii on it's side.
That certainly sounds better than the Wiki entry (or Gerstmann's 4.1 review). Thanks GG!
Insomniac on why Resistance didn't become Sony's Halo
Thanks for clearing that up guys. I thought it was because Resistance just didn't have anywhere near the fun factor, charm, or immersive gameplay that Halo had.
I'm getting it on the Wii U.
Gerstmann!
EDIT:
What's more clever about Hybrid Heaven's combat is that your characters position relative to your opponent is crucial the moves you can do. You can pick and choose what to attack with, right or left arm, right or left leg, headbutt, throw. So for instance if your weight is bearing on your left leg you can only choose to kick with the right leg. But then your opponent may have a defensive stance on the side you are about to attack on. If you are close enough you can do a max power headbutt which may leave someone dazed. It all sounds complicated but it's really easy, it's like a turn based rpg combat with percentage points and simple moves, punch, kick, throw, headbutt etc. But it's all reliant on your position and stance. Very clever stuff.
Destructoid has a feature on it, it was good for the time and I completed it twice. It's pretty archaic now but the combat is still good.
Now i feel a little sick.^

Keiji Inafune’s zombie game to be shown on September 13
Same day as Wii U conference?
Yoshi's Story is a 2-D platformer, but it's pretty much a kid's game and for the most part is ridicuously easy. That being said it's surprisingly fun. And requires virtually no knowlege of Japanese. Text is at a minimum. It's only in the tutorial (which also uses pictures), and in between levels to tell you what you just did.
That's a tricky one. The Thousand Year Door is even better than Paper Mario 64, but it's a long game so if you're feeling tired of Paper Mario goodness then leave it for another time

British official Xbox 360 magazine in the latest edition says that the next city for a sleeping dogs game by Square Enix will be either Mexico, London or Moscow city.
Kinda hoped they would keep the Asian theme at least for another game. At least they are diversifying instead of contracting like GTA, shrinking it's testicles back inside their own body.
Universal Studios Japan transformed into Raccoon City
Photos from Resident Evil theme park makeover look frightfully good.
The streets of Universal Studios Japan will run red with blood from this Friday, as the theme park is transformed into a live action replica of Resident Evil's zombie-infested Raccoon City for the annual Halloween Horror Nights event.
Taking inspiration from the early games in the long-running survival horror series, the makeover is impressively detailed. The Cyberdyne building from the park's Terminator 2 attraction has been remodeled as the Umbrella corporate headquarters, while props and nifty projection techniques have turned the New York street set into the decaying Raccoon City ruins. Actors playing series characters such as Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine will be on hand to guide tourists through the carnage, and see off any Lickers that may strike.
Photos from the launch, below, appeared on Japanese site Game Watch Impress. It might be handy if you, the master of looking at screenshots, take a look at them.
This isn't the first time Capcom has teamed up with Universal Studios. In July the publisher took over the park as part of an event called Monster Hunter Real 2012.
The Resident Evil experience opens this Friday and runs every night through to November 11th, neatly encompassing both the worldwide launch of Resident Evil 6 on October 2nd and the infernal holiday of Halloween.
