Killzone 2's online really is amazing.
Another article on dev costs and how consoles might fail.
The article actually SAYS it is a picture of an HD Stick Canyon FROM NiGHTS... I don't think it's a new game, I think it's an HD remake (which, I believe already exists on PSN in Japan)... Doesn't necessarily mean it's coming to the PS3 in the West though, could be coming for handheld devices... It's hard to say you love NiGHTS these days after that Wii game though...
The one and only thing I DO NOT like about Theatrhythm is: You can tell Square had little to no interest in actually localizing it. It was probably --AFTER-- they showed it to a few American website/gaming journalists and seeing their reaction to it that they actually made the decision to do so... and they did so with VERY little effort, and it shows. All of the backgrounds and event scenes that happen in the game are from the Japanese versions of the games. "What's the big deal?" you may ask... If the game had Japanese text in it, that's what they show in the backgrounds of the game! You will relive certain important events from the last 25 years of the Final Fantasy series... but you won't be able to --READ-- what's going on! It's frustrating seeing scenes from FF1 and 2 that you recognize, but you can't read what's going in in that particular scene! DUMB!
I'm just glad I jumped to PC gaming this generation. I still love gaming on consoles, but the crazy directions they've ALL started going over the past 6 years was a major reason I got into the PC.
The Sega that made Nights is dead.
Anyone else have a problem with too much detail in some modern games?
What I mean by this is that graphics are too detailed, too busy which makes identifying key objects more difficult. Take Arkham City last night, I was looking for this power generator. I spent about half an hour looking for it because it was not easy to see. There were a million other bright shiny, detailed objects scattered about which all needed to be inspected up close to see if it was scenary junk, or the key object I was looking for.
So I flicked on detective mode and thought, oh I'm looking for this generator, the game tells me to look for the generator so the visor will show it up easily right? Wrong.
The generator was the same orange colour as 50% of the rest of the environment. I had to scour the environment for ages just to spot something which was on a wall, not even hidden or anything.
In the past, let's say GC/PS2/Xbox if you needed to find a filing cabinet it was easy to spot, it was fairly blocky and the background was less detailed so it was easier to spot. It really stood out.
In a game like Bioshock or say Batman the equivalent room would have a whole room of scattered about filing cabinets, which all look the same, probably laid on a detailed, tiled floor with a roof fan scattering shadows about. You cannot tell the interactive object from the unmovable background scenary.
In Resident Evil they get past this by putting a flashing light on key objects you need to find. Other games do not always do stuff like this so it can make doing little things a pain in the ass because the environment is too detailed compared to past games.
You cannot tell the interactive object from the unmovable background scenary. I get this problem a lot.
BUGSY! Read my SPELUNKY! topic!!
Ahhhh yeah looking at the bigger picture I can see it now. I didn't remember the bolts. Well and HD remake of it would be cool. They did a PS2 version only in Japan and I always wanted to play that.
I was just going to say that. That was one of the best idea's in RE....everyone should use it.
Those Batman generators sucked, I also spent forever looking for them. They are usually hidden inside something or in a certain angle where you cant see it from a far.
I'd be very happy with an HD remake of the original NiGHTS.
Crazy Hamster heads to Japan trailer. Raven goes to Tokyo?
I wish. I'd love to vist Japan.
It's so expensive. South America seems quite costly to get to from here too. I want to check out Madagascar too at some point buts it's too much for me.
I can't go anywhere...its all too expensive for me. Farthest I've been is New York or Maine, each 2 states from here.
I finished Transformers: War For Cybertron.
Awesome game, can't recommend it enough to anyone looking for a fun 3rd-person action game. If you're a fan of the source, all the better. Some great boss fights on the scale of God Of War. Here's some pics of my playthrough:
Geek, I was talking about 3D, not Kinect. I don't think that document is legit anyway (MS did have it pulled but that does not prove it was real it may have struck upon some things that were real, or they just did not want it being out there as something being perceived to be real. A celebrity can have a faked picture taken down, it doesn't mean it was real).
I don't know how to respond to all your posts. Having a gamer say they are against graphical improvement is such an odd thing to confront.
The develpment costs argument is an excuse for failed developers. There are plenty of developers small and large who have been able to leverage middleware to keep costs down. Companies who fritter away their time developing their own engines and tools will suffer. You will likely say this is a bad thing, that it brings about homogeny, but there is plenty of room for variation within these engines.
Also, having middleware handle these tasks enables the creators more time to think about gameplay, not on how to re-invent rag doll every game.
I don't know if you are just saying these things because you think the U is underpowered, or if you don't like the complexity of modern gaming, in either case you should not worry. Nintendo had the highest number of quality exclusives this gen -- they will continue to with the U, there will be plenty of games of all kinds for everyone.
EDIT: edited for typos (I did all that on my phone).
What in gods name is happening to this industry.
