Monolithsoft is owned by Nintendo, so yes they are Nintendo.
But they are not Nintendo Nintendo. Not internal, not the Nintendo that needs to make new games.
Except many of them worked on Skyward Sword and Nintendo had lots of input in Xenoblade. That is why the game is not an unfinished mess like all other of Takahashi's games.
That is fine but I am sure EAD or any other internal team did not come up with the idea of Xenoblade.
Takahashi came up with the idea, but he works for Nintendo. Not sure what you try to argue here. Monolithsoft is first party like EAD, Intelligent Systems, Tokyo EAD , Retro and so on.
They existed outside Nintendo before, it is not the same as an internal development team. They are doing exactly what they did before they joined Nintendo, they are pretty independant. I am talking about the core Nintendo, the ones that havent done anything but Mario, Zelda and some weird Wii crap for like 5 years. Pikmin was the last new non "wii" IP they made.
I don't think they're independent exactly. They can't make their own decisions. They do what Nintendo gives them the OK to do, so in that respect Xenoblade happened because as a project it interested Nintendo too. I think of them more like Rare or Silicon Knights. They have their own IPs and ideas but they can't do anything without getting the OK from the parent company. And I presume (though I suppose it depends on what they agreed when they got purchased) that Nintendo may choose to comission them to work on whatever they want, sort of how they got Retro to do a Donkey Kong etc
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
They are not independent and Nintendo bought them to increase their RPG portfolio. They also created Disaster while under Nintendo, a new IP and not something they done before.
You are again discussing stuff without any fact backing you up. Read Iwata's Ask about Xenoblade and you will see that Nintendo had a heavy hand in the development. Also plenty of the staff worked on Zelda not exacty something an independent developer would do.
Monolith is a first party developer. That is a fact. Talking out of your ass all the time will not change a thing.
Think of them like Retro and you will be closer to the truth.
Nintendo's main studios that are their core talent and direction leaders, need to focus more on new IP in the same league of quality as Super Mario, Legend Of Zelda, and Metroid. Not neccessarily their offshoot, bought and paid for studios like Monolith Software, since they are already doing that (even if some of their games do not release to a worldwide audience).
Once you release ONE new Mario, Zelda, and Metroid....you already have the system sales from the people that want those games. And if you focus on only making one each every 5 years and making it as good as it can be, people will be more apt to want them. Maybe people that have given up on you will take the plunge. So why not use the rest of your development talent and time to give people that like those kinds of games something that's actually NEW and exciting to look forward to, and increase the chances of more people being interested in the variety you are bringing to the table?
Rareware was great at this in the N64 days. They had their expected games like Donkey Kong 64, and they also had their exciting new IP's like Banjo & Kazooie, Goldeneye, and Jet Force Gemini. I think its high time for Nintendo's core studio talent to take a similar approach like they have been claiming they want to do for the past 10 years.
Sadly I don't really think that's how the world of game development works anymore. If an IP sells then the core studio that developed it is going to keep working on it. The modern approach to new IP creation seems to be to bring in a new studio or just buy one to do it. That's what Nintendo did with Monolith and Capcom has done it several times over this generation.
And now for something completely different... a slime:
And Retro is not an internal Nintendo team either. I am talking EAD teams, that is it. They need to work on new stuff. It is an easy distinction the core teams are Nintendo, they never existed before Nintendo, they have been there since the beginning in some form. Any company that has been brought in is not an original Nintendo team. Yes Xenoblade is an original Nintendo IP but it is not an original developed IP by their internal studios which are the ones that should be making the most important stuff.
They already did that. They made Nintendogs, Brain Training, Wii Sports, Wii Fit and so on. They were made to attract new people. They also financed Sin and Punishment 2, but how many actually bought it for the full price here? Bugsy, Leo and me. Anyone else?
No you were not.
Your original quote
Nintendo doesnt know what a new IP is. Unless it is some mini game weird thing.
Stop spinning you were wrong deal with it.
I preordered Sin & Punishment: Star Successor but that is because it is Treasure and Nintendo and I like both companies.
Edit* Also what about stuff like Pushmo Intelligent Systems was always part of Nintendo since their inception in 1984 (1985 or 86 in America). Sakura Samurai was fully developed by EAD but both those two games are eShop titles.
SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:
Yay I am playing one of Igas stupid games.
I wrote that I think I know what I meant more than you do.
Mini game crap. And sin is not a new franchise and that is part treasure. Pikmin is the last new actual game idea they had. Of course they like money so making the mini games is smart.
I fucking quoted you. You said that. Sorry the only thing I see is you back-pedalling.
Yeah I consider them internal. I forgot about the 3rd games, ok that is nice but make a big budget new ip.
So mini game crap are not actual games?
