Nintendo doesnt know what a new IP is. Unless it is some mini game weird thing.

Okay, Churchill.
You know, to play devil's advocate I don't really think Nintendo is doing anything wrong and they get a bit of a bad rap. There's been 3 New Super Mario Bros in the past 6 years. If you count the Galaxy games and Mario Land 3 its 6. In that same period of time there have been just as many Halo games. There have been more Assassin's Creed games, more Resident Evil, more Kingdom Hearts, and i won't mention yearly installment games like COD. Nintendo and Mario in particular get brought up more since the series has been around so much longer, but I don't think it's so aggregious since even with minor changes these games really only come out once every other year at most.
And to get specific with New Super Mario Bros, is 3 games on 3 different consoles over 6 years such a bad thing? Its important to remember not everyone buys every console a company puts out. Most rational people probably don't in fact. Whats wrong with putting out a similar game for people who may not have been able to play it on a console they didn't own?
^ If we are only talking from a business perspective, then probably not, just as long as they are generating the desired sales.
I can only speak from how these quick-and-easy sequels affect me personally, and I don't like it. Right or wrong, I hold Nintendo to a higher standard than I do other game companies. I never thought I'd get burned out on a main franchise Super Mario game, but I have this gen. I'll come back to the series whenever Nintendo decides to do something fresh with the series again.
I've always said that fat fuck would end up as a whore.
Says the guy that is playing Xenoblade
That was made by Nintendo? Also isn't it part of the Xenosaga series?
Yes and no!
Monolithsoft existed way before they joined Nintendo, they are not Nintendo.
^ Bolt is awesome.
Rhino is awesomer
There has only been two real RE games (soon 3), the rest are side games. There is only 4 AC games. I count only 4 Halo games. Its 6 Mario games in 6 years, exactly like CoD except it isnt yearly. Now they are pretty different so its all good.
Gotta say... I was thinking of you the whole time the hamster was on.
My whole was just that taking an IP and adding more and more games and sequels to it isn't a Nintendo concept. It's an industry standard now and it's only going to get worse. Sega in fact is already lining themselves up to be the next great offender.
As far as my math goes, when I added all these up I was counting what was to be released this year as well. And since I totalled the Mario games up I included the 2 distinctly different types of genres, the 3D and 2D platformers, so because of that I don't think it's unfair to include other series that went in different directions. So RE has released a bunch of shooters in the past few years so I don't think it's wrong to say that's an RE brand now and should be counted in the same way. AC has had 4 console games, but they've also got a ton of handheld and iOS games which according to Ubisoft are canon so I put those in the list. And for Halo I did include Halo Wars, which may or may not be fair since it seems unlikely they'll ever stray from the formula again.
Rhino was the only thing I liked about Bolt, but he was reason enough to watch the movie. It's a shame the movie wasn't more successful, but Rhino totally needs to be at the theme parks.
