I think I can safely say you chose the worse one from the list. Still a cool game.
Also the magazine just makes me overwhelmed, every game looks worth playing but of course there is no time to play it all.
It happens to me as well. I think it's because in the HD era it seems every game can have impressive visuals and high production values. At the same time it has become (for me at least) increasingly harder to become completely absorbed and taken while playing a game than it was in previous generations. But maybe it's just my getting older

I feel the complete opposite this gen. Everything looks pretty much the same, and hardly anything stands out. FFS Unreal engine etc..

Um, how were console sales lower? By that point the consoles had been out for years and in their prime....and 2004 was a banner year. Moreover, games being cheaper and the economy being better in 2004 were a driving factor of better sales.

Outland not nominated for best downloadable game of the year, these awards suck. Of course Bastion won, whatever, its not that great.
