Your favorite Zelda game is Majora's Mask and that sold like 3 million wordwide. Zelda was never that popular. OoT sold 7 million and TP 6 million, the rest is lower.

I dont know what planet you come from where 5 million average is not popular. TES never came close to those numbers until Oblivion. Zelda has always been more popular than TES, until now.

From a world were people can actually read. I said not that popular.

I did some quick calculation

Average Zelda series sales Individual titles 3.6 million

Average Zelda series salescombined titles (for instance TP Wii and GG version counted as one) = 4.4 million

Average sales 3D Zelda's combined (I counted TP wii and GG version as one) = 5.46 million

So Skyward Sword has to sell around 5 million to come within the average 3D Zelda range.

Oblivion has sold around 3 million PC and 360 version combined. That number is from 2007 and it is higher now.

Before that you had Morrowind which was kinda rough around the edges and too hardcore. Before that it was a hardcore PC game.

I do believe that the Elder Scrolls can increase their sales to easily surpass even Ocarina of Time Sales numbers

It is on the PC, 360, PS3 (lol). It has an artstyle with big and burly men and not a stupid boney elf. The games are getting more and more accessible. Unless people get tired of the bugs and stuff. Skyrim should get 5 million worldwide easy.

^ Again I said Zelda has always been more popular than TES, its was not even close. TP outsold Oblivion and every Zelda game before that outsold every TES game.  Zelda has always been more popular, until NOW.

But TES used to be very niche and is getting more and more mainstream. And not all Zelda games outsold Oblivion. I think Oblivion has outsold Majora's Mask if we count the PS3 version. But who cares?! The jury is still out with Skyward Sword.

Hope it sells well, the sales numbers in Europe and Japan are not that encouraging. Drink some stamina potion link and keep running! I don't want the next Zelda to have a boring 'mature' artstyle.

I know not all Zelda games outsold Oblivion but each game in its timeframe outsold the TES game that came out in that time. Yeah SS will be a slow burn as always but it seems like Skyrim already sold 3.5 million in like 2 weeks which is crazy.

I am just afraid that people dont want to play games like Zelda anymore.

Nah it is still doing well. I am more concerned about the critics. Some critics still claim Skyward Sword is still the same Zelda! Do these guys want Zelda to change the core formula? If  they do, they might as well play another IP.

It will always do well cause there are so many of us fans that swear by the series that will always buy the games. It has one of the most loyal fanbases around. But this game really lacked in hype and attention from anyone outside the Zelda fan world. The game wasn't even on the radar of so many people, if you read or listen to many average gamer discussions its all about the big name titles on the PS3 and 360 and rarelt a mention of Zelda. This Zelda just got classified as "just another Zelda" even though it has far more changes than most sequels this year. This game did nothing to bring in new fans, it seems like it lost many of those that bought into the TP because it was such a massive event, and all that is left is the Zelda fan. And yes with many critics they just dont want to play these kinds of games anymore.

Vader,  TES outselling Zelda has more to do with people's perceptions of what the Wii is, a casual, kiddy gaming system.  Plus Skyrim had visuals that looked almost next gen and was hyped to death.  How much do you wanna bet that a lot of these people may never finish the game, they just want to experience it.  I can't wait to try it myself, around Christmas,  but for my money, Zelda is the better bargain.

BTW, isn't this the fastest selling Zelda ever?

I agree with the Bastion awards. That's pretty much it. I can't believe they gave 360 GOTY to Batman over Gears. I know their awards are always a joke, but C'MON...

I'm not sure how I feel about the Metal Gear clip.

For one, as much as I like Platinum Games, why is this not being made by the normal MGS team? Or any Konami team? Its been 3 years since MGS4...or is Kojima dependant on the MGS team to do whatever he wants to do?

Secondly, as flashy as the clip is and as pretty as it all looks, the enemy AI looked dumb as a stump and there appeared to be no trace of any kind of trademark Metal Gear stealth-based gameplay. I saw swords slicing, bodies ripping and cars flying about. Is this going to just be Bayonetta with the Metal Gear name on it? Don't we have enough games of that style, between Bayonetta, DMC, Ninja Gaiden, God Of War, etc?

I was hoping for a more melee based Metal Gear game with the same kind of stealth-based story based gameplay the series is known for. But this looks totally different.

They cater to a certain group of gamers.  You don't agree with SS being the Wii's GOTY.

I've embraced as something completely different than Metal Gear so it doesn't bother me.

Question for you guys.  I want to try to get my seven year old nephew into Zelda.  I'm trying to figure out which game to start him off on.  I'm thinking either LTtP or WW.  I want something that's instantly immersive and not overly challenging.

Truthfully, I didn't read the entire list. Doesn't Skyward Sword win by default? After all, wasn't it the only Wii game released this year?
