Sitting in the ER right now.  My wife believe's she's having an asthma attack.

Hope she's okay. When I was a kid I spent a few nights in hospital after some severe asthma attacks. If they get her on a nebulizer it should be okay I hope.

Not yet.  I'm in two minds about this.  I do want the one boxed with the soundtrack and the wiimoteplus but I am not sure if I want to pay £50 as opposed to £32 for the game alone

I wanted the remote too, but quickly realised it was just another wii remote and right at the end of the systems life too so not much point. The £32 version, first print run comes with the CD as standard which is why I pre-ordered quickly.

Looks pretty good, shadows/self shadowing and stuff.

The new monster looks crap though, at least its coloring.

The site takes a long time to load. Is it Tri with some additions in 3D right?

It's a stand alone expansion, so far all other Monster Hunter games have gotten them. They're like the Super Street Fighter versions, and treated almost like sequels. New monsters (2 new to Tri monsters shown, 2 variants of Tri monsters shown), new areas (1 shown), new armors and weapons (to craft from the new monsters parts), new weapon types (all the ones missing from Tri return for a total of 12), reworked bowgun crafting to how they were pre-Tri, tweaked swimming, and the staple of G releases which is another higher tier past High Rank, essentially all the same boss monsters but much tougher and with new versions of armors and weapons to craft off them which, unlike the High Rank variants that look the same as Low Rank but have different statistics, also have different designs. I wouldn't pay attention to the Japan only news, it's barely been announced for there, if it's like Tri it will take a year to arrive here so that response makes sense for now.

Oh, one difference to past games is that since this is a handheld release it's maybe the first G game to not have EVERYTHING in the non G version, on top of the new stuff, since it doesn't have the online mode, only the local co-op, that fans in Japan seem to buy the games for (which is why the series exploded on PSP, as opposed to the earlier PS2 games which had online modes). I'm thinking maybe they'll add the online in addition to that for a Western release since it's far more important than local co-op, but they may not bother with it, it would take quite some reworking and the series isn't bound to grow much more without major changes over here. Still, they did do that for Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and they reworked how the online worked for Tri on Wii too, with getting rid of the online fees and adding voice chat and such, so there's some precedent to think it's plausible. For Japan, I think they didn't do it because there they handle MonHun online games MMORPG-style, and charge fees, which maybe isn't very suitable for handhelds. Or they just didn't bother.

Ah I see, thanks.

So Kimura and Wada the Little Kings Story guys left Marvelous for Grasshopper and now have left Grasshopper after less than a year?

Do you non-Little Kings Story playing guys know how special the team was who developed that game was? It was like a once in a lifetime, never to be repeated mix of Japanese devs.

KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS IMPRESSIONS OF THE 3DS CIRCLE PAD ATTACHMENT

“I saw it today in the office. I mean I’m sure it’ll enhance gameplay… it’s a little big.” – Christopher Johns

“It feels good I think… it feels good. It’s just it’s an add-on, so I think the only concern is how will that kind of split through the users. Because there are people who are gonna wanna just carry around a really portable 3DS and then maybe only the really hardcore guys want to play some FPSs on there or something will maybe want to get that attachment.” – Sean Eyeston

“I don’t know if people want to carry it around, right? That might be the tough part.” – Christopher Johns

“It is kind of big.” – Sean Eyeston

“I think it adds a new level to gameplay, so it’s definitely worth it.” – Christopher Johns

“Gameplay-wise I think it definitely adds a lot. It’s just size-wise and I guess aesthetics, right?” – Sean Eyeston

“For those who do play for long periods of time, I think that will win over a lot of people…” – Christine Kogure

What if the Last Guardian ends up completely and utterly sucking or turns out like another Ico? They really made a mistake revealing that game as early as they did. Seems like it's never going to be ready.

A review for the first hardcore Kinect title, Rise of Knightmares from SEGA

Eurogamer said:
Motion control adds little to the gameplay but undeniably enhances the experience.

But when the motion controls don't work, they really don't work. These pitfalls generally come when the game gets a little too greedy and asks you to tackle large groups of enemies at once. Suddenly the imprecise turning and lackadaisical jogging speed become deadly weaknesses, and the game can easily lose track of your movements as you struggle to survive. The auto lock becomes a hindrance, as you're unable to turn while in combat, and with enemies that spit vomit all over the screen, leaving you unable to see, what should be cathartic becomes infuriating.

Even more problematic are some of the traps and obstacles you're expected to navigate. Whirling blades and thrusting spikes that would be embarrassingly easy to dodge with a joypad become a trial of patience as you steer Josh like a wonky supermarket trolley between their deadly blades. With slack checkpoints and a fondness for instant-death, dodge-or-die moments, there were times when I was ready to throw the Kinect sensor out of the window.
The initial pleasures of the 3D exploration quickly pale, even in a story that barely lasts an afternoon. You soon realise that a lot of the gestures aren't even necessary - one lazy wave is enough to climb a ladder, swimming can be performed by just flapping your hands by your sides. Combat, too, is less detailed than it first appears. Aiming a blow precisely is a haphazard affair, and the game clearly doesn't take into account the power of your strikes: a half-hearted swipe still lands a killer blow if it lands in the right place. In many ways, it's close to early Wii games like Red Steel, where you're given the illusion of one-to-one motion tracking rather than the real thing.

Just like the mad scientist whose baffling plot drives the action, Rise of Nightmares is a failed experiment. But it's also a worthy experiment, and there are enough ideas here that almost succeed to suggest that Kinect may yet play host to a brilliant adventure game. As it stands, this is a bizarre curiosity piece, but only of passing value to the gamers it so eagerly wanted to impress.
5/10

Fair point, but even reading some of those Ico/SotC HD reviews mention something to the extent of  "I liked Ico back in the day, but it hasn't held up well." So now even people who liked it won't admit that anymore.

I never understood this overwhelming love that some have for Team Ico. I found Ico to be a pretty boring and blurry game. Haven't played Shadow yet but it sounded like it had some technical issues. Now this new game they're making which has been taking WAAAAAY too long.

The storytelling!

LOL

At any rate, I'm probably too thickheaded to unveil the deep meaning behind those two games. I did finish ICO, and stopped playing SotC halfway through. Neither one stroke me as the masterpieces many people hail them to be.

This completely shocks me. I am taken aback by this revelation that you have no love for Team Ico or their games. You will now be known as the man who loved ALMOST everything. cheeky
