Some website was making a big deal out of it, so I figured those that care, may care. I tried watching the first one the other day on BR (got it free). OMG what shit. I am amazed it got a sequel.
Add the fact that the Dollar is weak compared to the Euro and you pretty much have the reason.
Scrolls. I think Zenimax is doing the right thing by protecting their trademark. They have an obligation to (once you don't defend your TM it becomes public domain).
Since Scrolls is going to be a fantasy-themed RPG it's only natural that someone buying it may think that it's associated with the best known fantasy RPG that has the word Scrolls in the title. (It wouldn't be a stretch to think that it was s spin-off). TES as a franchise is usually known from game to game by the subltitle, but the franchise is The Elder Scrolls, so Scrolls really is a big part of their brand identification. What if I made a stealth game called Splinter? Or a 3d platformer called "Galaxy"?
Gabe confronting protestors outside Valve:
Photo was taken moments before he tazed and pepper-sprayed them.
What are these assholes doing outside my lab?!
I take it they've just given up completely on Episode 3. May as well do the same on Half-Life 3 too.
Though you know without Episode 3 we haven't really even got a complete Half-Life 2.
With auto-synching we wouldn't have to put up with the crappy loading times as it synchs trophies when you start a game. Perfect for people who hate trophies. Though I probably completely misunderstood what auto-synching is.
You know how I always make fun of 'game journalism'? Like I always call them complete idiots!
Well some investors felt left out, so they did this
Pachter has some competition
Dude, what? Don't they sell gazillions of all their hits, like Mario or Wii ___ or whatever else at $50 or so a pop? Why would anyone, investor or otherwise (not consumer obviously, we'd like it free), want to sell it for $1-$10 a pop instead? Or do they think the brands wouldn't be damaged in any way, the sales of the first party platforms wouldn't be affected either, and they could simply sell the iOS games in addition to the gazillions of sales on their own platforms with higher pricing? Man, Nintendo should just use their warchest to buy their own damn stock back so that they don't have to answer to such idiots anymore. Or something.
The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds
while the pessimist fears this is true.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Looks like they were reading the mobiles taking over thread. God damn it Aspro, why are you trying to destroy Nintendo?
If they plan to do that, they need to do it right now, seeing as their stock price is very low.
Well speaking of all of that maybe they should worry a little. 2 nights ago I went out to Walmart deciding I wanted either a tablet or a 3DS. I went with the tablet.
Oh please, when you knock my total score out give me a call. Until then you're still just a scrub.
I think someone should make a game called The Older Scrolls or the Younger Scrolls and see if they get away with it. Or a game called I Know what your Scroll did Last Summer.
You know when I heard about the 3DS price drop I wasn't that bothered as the retail price before it launched went down from £220 to £180 which is what I got it for. Now stores are cut throat pricing it:
- Tesco for £115
- Morrisons for £120 (games down to £25)
- Sainsbury's for £139.99
And that's a huge fucking drop. That's the price of two new retail games and all they are giving us is a few VC titles? I'd rather have my £70 back thank you.
I think the fantasy RPG element has a lot to do with it. If you brought out Scrolls Kart I don't think they'd have an argument.
Hey, that was Robe-e-oh's thread.
But Elder Scrolls do not have RPG element anymore
Wait smartphones vs dedicated handhelds was an Iga thread!
NPD's coming out today should be grim. That got me thinking.
Here are my predictions for gaming for the next 4 years: (setting aside Nintendo and Valve)
- Major publishers, driven by rising game development costs and lower sales will be the only ones to exist (EA, Activision, THQ, Ubi). They will only release 5 - 6 $60 (AAA) games each year. These are the types of games that sell at $60. COD, Uncharted, Skyrim, Madden, FIFA.
- They'll be heavily subsidized by social/mobile/casual for which they will produce a constant stream of content (because it's ludicrously profitable).
- Everything else will sell for $15-$40 through PSN, XBLA and Steam. These are the types of games that you currently wait for a price drop anyway and were never really worth $60. Or games like Bastian, which will continue to find new ways of entertaining using low cost development.
- On the boundaries you will see Gamefly, and Online become the Netflix of games.
- Game retailers like GameStop and Game become ghettoized at best and Blockbuster at worse.
