Eurogamer Ocarina of Time 3DS preview

It certainly makes that world super pretty. The textures are sharper, the colours - particularly the greens, and this is, after all, a supremely green game - are brighter and richer, and any choppiness to the frame-rate has been smoothed away entirely. Even before you touch the 3DS' depth slider, this is the most attractive Ocarina of Time yet. Not surprising, really, seeing as the code's been knocking around for over a decade.


Touch the 3D depth slider, though, and things get even better. Race through Kokiri Forest and fireflies hover and swim in the air. Stand in Kakariko Village and Navi circles you ceaselessly, moving into the screen and then out of it as she wings around your shoulder. Cross Hyrule Field headed to Lon-Lon, and tufts of grass seem to brush against the bottom edge of the camera while the moon rises in the distant sky.

When you visit the Great Deku Tree, he now looms out of the grey mist with a real sense of shape and mass. When you go into a house, the rooms are filled with a riot of neat little details: bottles standing out on shelves, chairs in the foreground, dust moving through the sunlight.

Elsewhere, newcomers may be pleased - and old hands might be horrified - to see that an optional hint system has been implemented. A range of Sheikah Stones have now been scattered around Hyrule, and when Link crawls inside - they're like little rocky tents - he can access a range of tutorial videos and visual FAQs to get him past the challenges ahead.


The game dresses them up as visions of the future, and the whole thing could become a kind of sixth sense for weaker players.

Nice. Too bad I'm not getting a 3DS like...ever. Or maybe when it becomes dirt cheap. Which is the same. Never.

I'd play the game, but the artifacting caused by my again-faulty video card bothers my eyes to no end.

Only played the start, but it does seem tough.

I think the people that voted were all employees of Peter Molyneux. That is the only way to explain why Mr Overhype is at number 1.

About Mr Blow, I just do not know. My logic circuits cannot comprehend why that guy is anywhere near the top 10 list.

I thought the exact same thing but then decided that list wasn't even worth commenting on.  Braid is a fucking depressing game.  Even if it was one of the best games ever made, which it really isn't, not even close.  How does one measly digital download game warrant him a place next to Miyamoto.

I really hope Star Wars Old Republic destroys WoW. I will get a gaming PC just to play that game at some point. But isn't a console version rumored?

What is up with Sonic previews, why get people who have no clue what they are doing. The GR preview's author clearly has not played Unleashed or Colors.

Another element of the 3D section we want to mention are the portions that actually swing the camera around for a 2D look. Yes, sometimes in the “modern” Sonic levels, you'll do some 2D platforming. Besides the fact that this breaks the speedy momentum, Modern Sonic feels a little odd this way. Remember how Modern Sonic always felt a little “skate-y?” Almost certainly a product of the 3D engine, Modern Sonic controls a little floaty.

You would know that if you played Unleashed! A good part of the game is in 2D and the controls are going to be taken straight from that game. Its not trying to be Genesis Sonic 2D that is the point of including both. How do these people get these jobs and not know what they are writing about.

What about the Battlefield games, I don't even know if they have a story going beyond "war" but it's primarily multiplayer anyway and in BF2 you have the US/UN, Chinese army and some Middle Eastern faction. So yeah even if they didn't bother with a story it's not out of the norm for video games.

Any backstory is fine. Something like US is invading  a nearby country, go stop them is fine by me.  The only way a game like that is an issue if its a hate inspired game, which I doubt it is.
