This is funny, but it's also ridiculous.
Epic Mickey reviewers missing out on the lock on feature.
Gamespot 6.0
Eurogamer 6/10
Metro 5/10
They all complain about there being no lock on for combat and that's why the camera is a problem. Metro have sneakily deleted the lock on statement from their review, you can see from the comments it was there. And they also seem to ignore the fact that you can tap C to recenter the camera, you "have to" wrestle with the d-pad according to them.
IGN 8.0
Joystiq 4/5
They seemed to still appreciate the game for what it is, even without knowing that you just hold down C to lock on enemies and tap it to lock off. Still some of the biggest names in games journalism blatantly being factually wrong on an issue they deem to be a problem. It's pretty sad. I'm not saying the camera is perfect or anything, but there IS a freaking lock on.
Ask - no Golden Sun for me. I wasn't a fan of the original GBA game so I never really had an interest in the new DS version. Besides now that I have Epic Mickey there's not much else that I'd want to play right now anyway.
Speaking of Epic Mickey, I'm3 hours in and despite the wildly varying reviews I'm enjoying it so far. It was okay at the beginning, but I just got to Mean Street and the game immediately seemed to pick up as soon as I got there. Debating taking off an afternoon from work to just sit and play some more.
Mean Street is where the game properly starts and that is several hours in. You are in for some great stuff.
Anyway, unless the developers very deliberately fix the camera to a specific angle, tapping C to recenter always re-centers behind Mickey. If the platform in front of you is at a low angle you just press down on the d-pad to elevate the camera a bit. Mickey's generous double jump has meant I have very rarely jumped off a platform to my doom.
What I saw in the Gamespot's video review for instance was a lot of stupid BS like jumping inwards towards the camera and expecting to land on a platform that wasn't even on the screen. If the guy would just hit the C button to look at the right angle, duh, it would work.
And also this part where he only thinned out part of a building on Mean street and forgot to thin the ceiling, thinking the game was broken when it was his own stupidity. How do you jump through a solid ceiling Gamespot? Please tell me.
Your impressions (and vader's) are the ones I most look forward to as you have a deeply felt and genuine appreciation for all things disney so I think you will be able to pick up on and appreciate the reportedly huge amounts of references and fan service. Personally I understand that all of that will be lost on me, but I'm perfectly happy to just take the game at face value.

What am I, chopped liver?
You really piece me off!
I hope Golden Sun bombs and Nintendo ditches Camelot who then go back to SEGA which funds them to create a REAL Shining Force game that goes on to become one of the best strategy RPGs ever!
The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds
while the pessimist fears this is true.

I wish Camelot had made the Golden Sun Gamecube game that rumoured years ago.

It's as if you had something to do with that site before. But it just can't come to me. What is this "Gamespot" site he speaks of? Sounds like something from ancient history.
One of the site's forefathers.
Gamespot is an ancient Armenian word for "latrine. It was typically used in the context of a particularly nasty and filthy latrine usually found in the vicinity of the cheapest whorehouse in town.... because they had whorehouses in ancient Armenia.....really.
LOL Gamespot has just faded from relevancy to me and IGN and Eurogamer are dropping like a stones in water too. Gameinformer has always been a bad joke. I don't know what sites I like the most these days, probably Gamekyo, because they post lots of media and scans and since I can't read French I can't disagree with the reviews.
Filthy ancient toilets found in the worst whorehouses in ancient times.
It's all coming back to me now. The shit, the ugliness, the horridness.
Still don't fully remember but it completely matches my feelings toward the name.
One of the site's forefathers.
Its crazy that so many reviewers missed a basic function of Epic Mickey. Stuff like that is what pieces me off about reviewers.
