Everybody knows at least one gamer who is an insufferable jackass. And if you don't know one, then chances are good you are that insufferable jackass, spitting out smug stuff like, "Final Fantasy VII is overrated." You cannot just enjoy games for yourself, you have to crap all over everybody else's tastes because they are not as refined as yours. We've assembled seven classic smug gamer lines posted on message boards or overheard at the local GameStop, and pointed out exactly why each of them is not just incorrect, but annoying as hell.
"Realistic graphics trump kiddie/minimalist art styles."
Since the dawn of gaming, people have set out to make videogames look as true to life as possible, leading to graphical triumphs like Heavy Rain and Modern Warfare 2. But games of their ilk never age well -- jebus, we once thought the characters in Mortal Kombat looked realistic -- whereas a stylized game like Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker will always look great.
"I only listen to the Japanese voice tracks in JRPGs."
Sorry you had to miss out on Final Fantasy XIII then. Blame the Xbox 360, because everybody knows the reason Square cut it is because the 360 has such tiny discs. It had absolutely nothing to do with them redoing all of the cutscenes to lip sync with the English voices, something that cost considerable time and money.
"Longer games are better games."
No, they're not. Padding a game with endless dialogue, constant backtracking and useless sidequests for the sole purpose of extending their length does not make them superior to a concise and focused ten-hour game simply because they last longer. See: God of War I – III.
"I don't play… waggle games. The Wii is for babies."
Then so are your Xbox 360 and PS3, because both Microsoft and Sony looked at the Wii's billion-dollar business and decided they want some of that. If you think the Sony Move isn't Wii HD, then you are in serious denial.
"No multiplayer, no buy."
People have been increasingly obsessing over this one in last few years, to the point where developers just assume that we don't even need single-player campaigns anymore. Uh, we do.
"Real gaming died with the Dreamcast."
This is actually true. Since SEGA discontinued the Dreamcast in early 2001 because it simply could not keep up with demand, no actual videogames have come out. Just light shows operated by win buttons. Oh, and SEGA really wanted to keep making games in the Jet Set Radio and Panzer Dragoon universes, but just decided against doing so out of spite...
"I won't play a game that runs lower than 60 frames per second."
Then you better stop watching movies right now, because those are filmed at an epic fail rate of 24 frames per second. Don't worry, we'll let you know what happens in TRON: Legacy
seems 3d dot heroes reviews are just going to be polarised between those that love it for being a retro zelda tribute which borrows heavily from it and those that hate it for those same reasons.
i think i will wait for more actual gamer reaction (hopefully some people here are getting it) before making up my mind whether to buy or not. i'm not in any hurry though, i have until it is reduced to hobo-price to decide
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
The game strikes me as something that would be more appealing to me if it were a downloadable game and maybe featured extra DLC or episodes. I like old-school games with updated graphics, but at the end of the day I've already played a bunch of games like them from 15 to 20 years earlier, so I never feel like I get my money's worth if I pay full price.
Wait, they made a rafting game and made people walk left to right and jump instead of, er, paddle to guide the boat, somethng like a twist on WSR's kayak event? Meh.
Also why do they get "celebrities" that have nothing to do with video games to play it. If I hear someone excited to jump to reach stars I'm not gonna be convinced regardless of what great achievements he did in other fields...
The optimist proclaims we live in the best of all possible worlds
while the pessimist fears this is true.

Anyway time for Pachter watch:
Pachter predicts new Xbox Live 'Platinum' service
New layer of service for Xbox Live on the way, predicts Pachter, expects "modest" price hike for existing Gold subscription.
Written by David Scammell, 18 April 2010
Gaming research analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Microsoft will add a further layer of subscription to its Xbox Live service, saying that he thinks "we're going to go from Gold to Platinum", with the new premium model adding "a lot of cool stuff" to the existing XBL service.
"The stickier they make Xbox Live, the easier it is to justify a price increase," said Pachter, speaking on this week's episode of Pach-Attack on GameTrailers.com.
"I think you're going to get a modest increase, but I think you're going to get a new level of service.
"I think we're going to go from Gold to Platinum, and I think Platinum's going to have a lot of cool stuff and it's going to be 100 bucks or 150 bucks or 500 bucks. It's going to be more.
"And the reason I say it could be that much more... what if they offer you television? What if you get internet TV through Xbox Live? What if they say you can watch WKRP in Cincinnati anytime you want on demand through Xbox Live? Because they could do that, and if they offer you every TV show ever made, every movie ever made, you'll pay 500 bucks a year for that. Trust me, you will, because you're already paying that on your cable bill and a lot more."
Pachter also predicted that Microsoft's existing Xbox Live Gold service could see a price hike "from $50 to at least $60, probably as soon as this time next year".
Internet TV is already readily available to Xbox Live Gold members via the recently introduced Sky service, but requires that members pay an additional subscription for a Sky TV account.
Xbox Live is currently available via two models: Silver, which lets players download game demos and movie trailers for free, and Gold, a premium service which lets players play multiplayer games over Xbox Live.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobilei stopped reading manuals, when they stopped making nice ones. in fact i don't remember the last time i removed a manual from its case. instead of making those ugly generic black and white ones EA and Ubisoft make it may be best to stop them completely.
valve never gave printed manuals

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
“In one cut scene, female characters in a hot spring discuss relationships, boyfriends, and compare each others’ bust sizes: “I wonder if Leo prefers them large,”
Well Leo do you prefer them large?
It has nothing to do with saving the environment, just saving Ubisoft money. I'm actually surprised it took this long for it to happen. I predicted digital manuals waaay back during the 32-Bit era due to the large size (back then) of CDs. I rarely read paper manuals anyway, so it doesn't matter to me.
I will be getting it for $15. I get $10 off of Best buy for being a gamers club members and I just got a $15 gift certificate for the points I have gotten. $15 out of pocket (checks pocket, phew I have enough) and GTA is mine, not bad at all.
Mixed feelings on the Marvel v. Capcom 3 announcement. The comic book geek in my is thrilled, but based on the previous outings I know the gamer in me will probably be a little disappointed.
Plus this description has me wondering. The game is described as a "2-D beat'em up". I'm sure that's just bad writing but, that's not the way to describe a fighting game. That's genre mixing!!!!
Anyway here's to hoping they put Moon Knight in the game.
