I was playing this over the weekend.

Shaky cam is annoying, but visuals are outstanding. Nuff shaders or what?

This:

Experienced weird reticule glitch and it's getting tougher, even on normal. Damn katakara mobs.

And this:

I'm so close to the Cavern of the Gods I can smell it........ or is that Mekere?

Funny as hell though.

LOL Yeah. I suffered a bit, but eventually learned to do the cross-eyed method for stereoscopic images, and the results are amazing. These ones are for people who can't do either cross-eyed or parallel, but it's a poor substitute, like substituting sex with masturbation.

Heh, the guy that posted those jitter gifs had his tag changed to "EEEAARTHQUAAAKE!!!!" or something like that. LOL

That's a scary thought. When a company breaks even only when hitting 1.5 million copies???  How many games each generation even come close to that number?

Scarier:

"that's still not enough as an independent studio to break even,"

They didn't break even.

It was a launch game for a system that cost $700 that was being bought mostly by scalpers.  Of course it wouldn't have sold more than that.  The manufacturers need to fully subsidize launch games from third parties.

"Major Nelson's Xbox Live account hacked"

Good, judging from his podcast that guy is a tool.

Pachter: PSP Destined to lose

Way to call a race after it's over.  This guy is getting dumber.  Did you hear his quotes on this week's podcast? It's astounding.

If they can't break even with 1.5 mil they're doing something horribly wrong. Tons of companies do fine with just selling a few hundred thousand copies of niche titles. They must have overspent way too much for a simple game like that. If they can't handle such titles efficiently then don't create them, go smaller, go niche, don't try to make an AAA Hollywood Blockbuster type product that puts such strain on the studio, and you fail to do it as good too.

And er, most of those 2D game images aren't 3D... They don't change the perspective in any way like that 3D it prints money gif. They just slide 2D elements left and right, you can do that all the time in 2D game with parallax scrolling, that doesn't give a 3D effect.

Ninja Theory have always been a bunch of whiny bitches.  They bitched about Microsoft endlessly in the EDGE Magazine retrospective of their crap game Kung-Fu Chaos.  They also complained that they were the victims of political correctness.

The only good thing about Heavenly Sword was the WETA studios CGI that they clearly blew their budget on. Otherwise it's just a short game that looks great with a cheap end-boss.

A pixel shader is a type of shader program, often executed on a graphics processing unit. These programs are typically used to perform complex per-pixel effects. Microsoft's Direct3D and Silicon Graphics' OpenGL support shaders. From Wikipedia, it has more details there if you want to look.

Pixel shaders are most often used for things like reflections, refractions, distortions, and other visual effects. For example water surfaces, explosion waves that warp your view, etc. I think bump and normal mapping techniques also use them. The Wii doesn't actually support pixel shaders but its GPU can be programmed with similar and impressive for its specs effects as seen in Super Mario Galaxy and other games, including Jett Rocket which is an indie WiiWare game when big 3rd party publishers pretend the Wii can't do beyond N64/PS2 visuals. </rant>

Conduit 2 if anyone cares:

Though High Voltage isn't ready to spill the beans about specific[online] modes just yet, the studio promises a bevy of new gameplay types, as well as the return of the first game's innovative Bounty Hunter mode.

As you might expect, weapons like the Vortex Cannon will add a few wrinkles to online competition, as will the introduction of different character classes, each with unique attributes. You'll also be able to unlock suit upgrades that bestow your character with special skills; robotic legs, for example, will let you sprint greater distances."

"Right now, the plan is to have one primary suit slot and two secondary slots where you can equip upgrades, but that may change in the final game. From a purely cosmetic standpoint, you'll have tons of options to change your character's appearance using the same modular system the team uses to diversify enemies. For those who prefer to keep their gun fights local, Conduit 2 will feature a two-to four-player splitscreen option for all of the game's competitive modes.

And when you want to take a break from blasting your friends and loved ones, you  can team up with them in the new co-op Invasion mode. Up to four players can join forces (either via splitscreen or online), and the challenges they'll face are unique to this mode. Further details remain under wraps, but we always welcome the chance to eradicate some alien scum with our fellow humans."

"Their first order of business: expanding the game's scope, "In the first Conduit, I think the core experience is very sold," says producer Josh Olson."

- ASE returns
- set in Atlantis
- SEGA publishing
- Huge boss battles
- old/new weapons

Holy shit Sony that is messed up.

The next system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) system will be released on April 1, 2010 (JST), and will disable the “Install Other OS” feature that was available on the PS3 systems prior to the current slimmer models, launched in September 2009. This feature enabled users to install an operating system, but due to security concerns, Sony Computer Entertainment will remove the functionality through the 3.21 system software update.

In addition, disabling the “Other OS” feature will help ensure that PS3 owners will continue to have access to the broad range of gaming and entertainment content from SCE and its content partners on a more secure system.

Consumers and organizations that currently use the “Other OS” feature can choose not to upgrade their PS3 systems, although the following features will no longer be available;

  • Ability to sign in to PlayStation Network and use network features that require signing in to PlayStation Network, such as online features of PS3 games and chat
  • Playback of PS3 software titles or Blu-ray Disc videos that require PS3 system software version 3.21 or later
  • Playback of copyright-protected videos that are stored on a media server (when DTCP-IP is enabled under Settings)
  • Use of new features and improvements that are available on PS3 system software 3.21 or later

For those PS3 users who are currently using the “Other OS” feature but choose to install the system software update, to avoid data loss they first need to back-up any data stored within the hard drive partition used by the “Other OS,” as they will not be able to access that data following the update.

Who removes features from consoles. What the fuck is this?!
