I'm not going to try and sell anyone on this... yet...
Just as a comparison, I started out liking Glory of Heracles, too. It took me a few hours of dull repetitiveness before I realized the negatives of the game outweighed the positives.
White Knight is starting out the same. The graphics are pretty beautiful in spots, but some of the characters are BUTT-ugly. The skill-tree, with it's 10 (?) different categories and 50 skills apiece (!) is impressive, but IF the game is so easy you just use one or two of those skills over and over... What would be the point? I don't know if it is or is not at this point: When I had my party, I had no fear of dying whatsoever. The parts where I was playing as Leonard alone, I DID die once or twice. The plot is typical JRPG fare... but to have THAT bother you, is to have EVERY JRPG from now on bother you.
It may turn out to be that the single-player is just a short, throw-away affair that's just meant to introduce you to the multi-player. I tried an online quest last night. When playing those quests solo, it really is JUST your one character. THAT was tough! Managing your HP and MP and staying alive was a hard thing to do. The quests also seem to have a time limit. The one I took last night was supposed to last an hour. That's a pretty perfect number for me if that's what's expected.
If you start an online quest as solo, it stays that way. If you choose Multi-Player, I believe it brings you to Geo-Net where you can party with other random players or pick your friends. I don't know if there will ever be anyone else I can play this with, as I am the only one I know that purchased it. I'm not so jazzed about playing with strangers, but I may just give it a shot to see what it's like. There IS a bit of potential in this mode!
Keep in mind, I THOUGHT this game was going to be like Phantasy Star Online and IT IS NOT. By all rights, I should be totally disappointed right now and not even be giving the game a second look... but for some reason, I am intrigued and find myself returning to it... at least for the one or two hours I've had to myself over the last three days, that is!
I'll let you know how/if my opinion changes!
Edit: I'm thinking this game may be one of the cases of: "I've got other games to play that are higher profile (Mass Effect 2, Dante's Inferno, Heavy Rain), so I'm NOT going to play through it, or even try the multi-player, and just give it an average review."
That's a real shame with White Knight Chronicles and the reviews it's getting. I loved some of Level 5's other games like Dragon Quest VIII and Rogue Galaxy so this was a game I was very interested in from the beginning. I'd still like to at least try it at some point though just to see for sure what it's like.
Mass Effect 2 is soooooooo awesome! I played this one mission where I'm on board a Collector ship and the atmosphere and sense of forboding was fantastic thanks in large part to the great music. The Collectors make for a great enemy in this game, they're really creepy. I totally love Harbinger's voice especially when he takes control of a drone and taunts you while you're fighting them. It's a deep and creepy voice and reminds me a lot of the Borg from Star Trek.
The combat is really satisfying in this game and they did a great job carrying all your decisions from the first game over to this one. I can't wait to play through again as a new character to see all the differences. I put in over 300 hours into ME and I can tell I'll easily top that in ME2.
Is there a pussy option in Mass Effect 1 where I can flip a switch and turn off all the uneccesary crap like hacking, just do the story and have the difficulty set to Zero.
I would just like to blitz the campaigin over like 3 or 4 nights play.
I should have done this ages ago really. Recentely I've been too tired to play 360 at night. I need to get back to it.
Further proof that Gamestop is evil.
Did you know that the GameCube was built with some specific 3d technology that was never put to use? The info comes straight from Iwata himself!
Iwata: To tell you the truth, GameCube is secretly designed to load graphical circuits which display graphics for right and left eyes respectively, for a future possibility of realizing 3D gaming experience. So actually we have had interest on this technology, but I have some doubt about everyone needing glasses to play.
One of the most disappointing letdowns for me is Crystal Bearers. I thought it showed a lot of promise. I can't believe it was four years in the making!
The guys who developers Crystal Bearers must really be out of touch with the RPG audience and lack the talent to make a good game. With all that money Square-Enix has, you'd think they'd make a good game.

They say Sonic is playable in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and he will have his own galaxy called Green Hill Galaxy.
So fake but so awesome if true.
Very interesting Heavy Rain demo, the game totally stands out, there isn't much like it. If you played Indigo Prophecy then you have an idea of what to expect, it plays nearly identical to that game. I did not like that there was a walk button, if you move the L-stick you only move your head, you need to press R2 to move foward then you can use the L-stick to move around, even then it feels stiff. It's almost old Reisdent Evilish. The environments are insanely detailed, it reminds me of Shenmue how everything in a room is it's own seperate unreplicated object. When you look at a room in this game it feels lived in, it feels real.
The detective chapter is far better than the other one. I replayed it a few times to see how the discussion with the girl plays out differently. I noticed there is only one question where the outcome is different and that outcome is basically either get some info or not, not sure if that has any impact on the whole game, probably not. Later you get into an awesome fight with some dude. It's actually choreographed well giving that feeling of an actual brawl in a room, there is no kung fu or over exaggerated moves. The fight is all QTE, everything in this game is about pressing buttons that appear on screen. I won the fight on one playthrough and lost it on another, the story didn't really change much. I wonder how these minor events can influence what goes on later or does it just give you a slightly different expereince at that moment and there are only a few major moments where the game changes.
The crime scene was ok I guess. The glasses seem like a good way to gather evidence but the demo doesn't show the payoff of gathering the evidence so it's an empty experience. If I don't explore and find clues how does that impact the game, I can't tell in this demo. You don't have extreme freedom, like you can't just walk away from the crime scene until you talk to the dude. You can leave before you gather extra evidence. In the detective chapter you have to talk to the girl, but you can leave and never fight the guy. Oh and I tried to die during the asthma attack but nothing happens if you don't press anything.
What I got out of it is that it is extremely immersive and atmospheric. When I first started and was walking down the shady apartment building hallway I had this feeling of what an old school RE game would be like with today's graphics. There aren't many games like this anymore, everything is huge open areas, non stop action, shoot everything. To slow down and experience something as simple as walking down a hallway and exploring a bedroom in such detail kind of wowed me. The gameplay will be all QTE, it's definetly a guided choose your own adventure story. It's going to come down to the storytelling and the demo was good in that area. The voice acting could use some work, I don't know why they didn't go for an allstar cast of voice actors. Clearly a lot of work went into motion capture as the characters move realistically as they interact with each other which in turns makes the scene feel like a movie. I like it.^How big was it? If it's small enough I'll DL.
=-=-
People are going to bitch so much about the QTE.

So I buy a game called Pipe Mania for the DS (I think, may have been PSP) online and they send me SOCOM for PS3. They are worth about the same ($20). I'd not mind and just keep SOCOM, but apparently it is multiplayer only (which I'll never use).
Worth rattling cages about?
That's too fat for my internet.
I had that happen in an Amazon market order. Without much trouble it got resolved, and they even threw in a bonus game. No rattling required, but I guess it depends on who you're dealing with.
