So lets break this down. Its october so its not mega sales time yet but so  many big games got released and not so huge returns YET for most. Obviously  there is the economy so that hurts... but then you look at Nintendo and wonder  if that has anything to do with it.

Lets start with the reigning king, Nintendo, who at this point I think  doesn't have to release a new game for the wii and it will still destory the  competition. Seriously guys, the Wii may top the PS2s numbers, its pace is just  absurd. These numbers are just out of this world crazy. Any notion that the HD  systems will come in and steal sales as prices go down has to be proven wrong  already, the wii is selling like this regardless of what the competition does.

On a month with so many new releases, Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Play  (which is NOT a game damn you NPD!!) which came out a million years ago outsold  most of the games on the list. Crazy. But if one thing makes me happy is that  there is NO Wii Music!!!! VICTORY!!

360, excellent month, I know that when compared with Wii it doesn't seem so  impressive but its sales have increased big time since the price drop. It has  now surpassed the PS3 for year sales. Fable 2 shows that 360 owners continue to  buy every big time exclusive. Next month Gears 2 will be monsterous.

Sony, thanks for playing. With that price they might as well not compete. Its  second savior of the year comes out and nothing. PS3 owners show they hate  everything. LBP wasn't horrible considering the epic faliure of a launch it had,  hopefully it does very well next month and is a million seller... but we all  know how important first week sales are so its not a good sign. Socom selling  well, still a big franchise for Sony. Where are the third party games?

The biggest story maybe the death of the music games, well maybe not death  but decline. GH4 came out this month... not one SKU made the list. RB2, no  longer on the list. Wii Music not on the list. Did they all beat each other up.  Other third party games, Fallout 3, great on 360, not so much on PS3. Dead Space  deserved better, great game guys. SR2, wasn't the first a million seller, well  this one wont be in the US. NBA2k9 made the list, kind of random. No Midnight  Club, no Far Cry 2, no Bioshock PS3.

I think there might be too many games out, sales are getting spread too thin.  The sales are there, the numbers are very good, just not a big standout other  than Fable and the Wii stuff. Last month you have SW sell a bazillion copies,  Mercs 2 did better than most games on this list. RB2 (360) sold in the 300K  range. So you compare numbers from last month to this month and overall sales  are nearly the same but the quality of the games on the list have increased  dramatically, sales have not.

I'd say that video games are recession resistant, not recession proof. Nothing is recession proof except for the necessities of life (i.e. food, gas, medicine, shelter, ect.).

My video game purchasing certainly has dropped significantly over the past couple years, and I can see myself buying even fewer games next year. Thankfully, I'm not really seeing this as a bad thing because it has forced me to play the games I own rather than just buying new ones all the time.

If you are going to buy an extra controller you might as well get it. I agree that it's not really a game on it's own merit. That being said, it did keep me busy at my cousin's house for a good couple of hours. Especially the tank game. If nothing else it's kind of an extended introduction to Wii on top of Wii Sports, for casual gamers who have never played video games. After that it would make a nice coaster.

It was kind of funny though, every time I went into Future Shop for about a year, I heard a salesperson trying to push Wii Play HARD to mothers buying Wiis for their kid, ie. "You get the controller you're going to need anyway, plus 9 games! " That, and Happy Feet..... or maybe that was so bad it was thrown in as a package.

Demo disc? Wii Play is about as "full" as Wii Sports. And how are you so sure that it wouldn't be on the list?

Damn you GG, well I guess I will have to do the updates at least until Monday.
