Another Disaster review:

"None of the gameplay styles are anything special, so why, then, is the game so oddly compulsive? Well, much of it is down to the fact that none of the sub-sections outstay their welcome, particularly as checkpoints are distributed regularly and logically. Then, of course, there's the fact that it's such an interesting game world to be in - although the 'quake tremors and tsunami-formed rivers are controlled by set pieces, it all feels far more organic than it actually is.

But the crowning glory is the fantastically naive script, which attempts to ape gritty American cinema with its excessive use of swears. In attempting this, it succeeds only in being the most quintessentially Japanese thing that has ever been put to disc."

"The whole package ends up giving Disaster: Day Of Crisis a wondrous summer action movie vibe, and while it's not the best game ever made by some distance, it has no such delusions of grandeur. The end result is just a game of simple, silly fun for the Vin Diesel generation.

After seeing that Kawata title screen jibe I went to watch the RE4 gametrailers review on gamecube:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/6755.html

Still looks fantastic and the colour is washed out in that video.

That reminds me, I'm on my third playthrough and stuck on Krauser again. His fight was probably the worst part of the game for me, yet oddly still great.

LOL Saw this on the Gaf:

Disaster GAF impressions from various users:

"I tried it yesterday and although it's not at a bad game it isn't great either. I liked the idea and exploration parts, jumping around disaster areas escaping all kinds of shit, pretty awesome. But the shooting parts are terrible and the graphics are a mixed bag. Some effects look cool while indoor textures are muddy."

"Got a chance to try the first couple levels - I'd call this the spiritual sequel to Operation Winback if the combat were freeform instead of on rails. Tries to make up for that with the whole disaster backdrop, and also injects a bit of much needed diversity in the form of various rescue operations and QTEs... eh, overall I kinda liked it.

Generally feels like one of those action B-movies from the late 80's/90's (which I love) Solid title, I'd give it a 6.5-7/10 or something."

"Immediately, we saw that the game sets out to be an intense affair with epic events occurring left, right and centre and strong undertones of conspiratorial foul play. The graphics and physics of the game, whilst still not refined and touched up to release standard, look to push the Wii for all it’s worth. It won’t have the powerhouse GFX of the PS3 or Xbox but nonetheless, it looks to be a sharp title with strong dynamic images and a highly detailed environment. Characters seem to be equally well designed with such dermatological attributes as freckles and scars all being part and parcel of what defines each character. We see some tatooage and the odd bit of designer stubble thrown into the mix as well. All in all the game certainly packs a visual punch, especially considering the feisty Wii GFX unit."

"The gameplay is a mixed bag for a few different reasons. DDoC makes good use of the functional aspects of the Wii-mote, chucking in various opportunities to shake, rattle and roll your hands in accordance to the task at hand. It was responsive and astute when it came to employing the motion of one’s arms and to this end, DDoC heightened gamer interactivity and enjoyment.

Where it may need some improving is the shooting aspects. (Though I must unhesitatingly add that my aim sucks!) The shooting scenes, a-la arcade shoot-em-ups were a little tough to get used to and lacked a little realism in terms of the amount of bullets both the baddies and the player could take.

The scene would change and it became a little bit Gears-of-Waresque in that you had to primary actions. Take cover or take aim and shoot. To aim, you need to point the Wii-mote at the screen and navigate accordingly. Shooting and reloading is easy enough and quite fun too. A little shake of the nun-chuck would reload the gun. Although in the version we played there seemed to be an endless supply of ammo meaning we just got pretty trigger happy. We were not informed whether this would be the case for the released title."

"Well, I've gone through three chapters now (including the prelude) and it's a mixed bag. The good outweights the bad pretty nicely so far though!

The bad first:

- Graphics are subpar except from the actual disasters themselves. Animation seems solid, but the character models (except from the main dude) and lip sync. is horrible.
- Voice acting is all over the place
- Story makes no sense up to this moment! I'm pretty sure this will be better, and it's pretty entertaining so far!

Good:

- I'm liking the main character.
- Cool disasters with some good effects makes for some nice "Oh shit!" moments.
- Controls are solid - the shooting parts are going to leave fans of Ghost Squad happy.
- Weapons customization is awesome, the same with the levelling up of the main char.
- Saving people hasn't grown tiresome yet - feels pretty different each time!
- The driving parts are awesome, even though the first one was kinda boring."

"Going to play now. OK, tutorial and first mission and it was awesome. Dialogues are cheesy and funny and music is epic and excellent. Really feels like a disaster movie.

Ray is an awesome character. The gameplay is strange at first, but then it feels natural. The shooting parts are really strange when you do them the first time, but every one of them has a little tutorial, and when you know them all its starts to get really fun. The intelligent deaths are the best parts in my opinion (even the disaster that is occurring can kill your enemies if you play good your cards).

Its very interesting the documents part, you can read info about the disasters occuring and its really very interesting, learned somenthing new about earthquakes.

There are also 100 achivements to complete.

Big thumps up for now."

Ew.

The previous page review made is sound hilarious. Like Defenders of the Earth good. Giant watermelons, tai chi breathing, 24 crossed with Dantes Peak, main character shouting "damnit!", anything that can go wrong, will go wrong, rescuing dogs from tsnamis. The works! LOL

I found the complete gallery on the internet

The 3rd one is the best!!

Apparantly if you link Fusion with Zero Missions with a link cable you will unlock the Fusion gallery.

Hey you can see Ridleys attack on Samus Homeworld, awesome!

Disaster is a game I very much would like to play.

LBP impressions, I was playing it earlier today, the standard levels will blow the minds of anyone in the beta. You thought there were some excellent levels from users, well they didnt come close to wait these levels are like, granted a lot of it has to do with the amount of decorations and such we did not have access to. What surprises me the most is how well themed these stages are, what they do with these tools, the settings the create, awe inspiring. The Africa level has you climbing up giraffe's heads, swinging on monkeys, avoiding tons of crocodiles. Then you enter the caverns of the meercats where you have to find the son of the Meercat queen, he is at a meercat strip club (yes seriously), it feels like a classic platformer would. The gameplay is excellent, one score level even have this Sonic momentum like pace to it, it has you zooming through passages, hitting springs with fling you across a level, sliding on glass to make you move much faster, all this with spikes you have to avoid. Oh and the music, oh the fantastic music, best music of the year and like the best platformers it has tunes that will be stuck in your head forever. So yeah I am loving the single player so far. There is so many items to collect, way beyond the bets, I have a lion sackboy and a zombie vampire bride sackgirl.

Still not having the servers up really hurts the game. The defining moment of the beta for me was the first time you gained access to the full game after the third level. When you get thrown out into that world, with tons of user levels to play, loads of people online to jump in with, leaderboards, its a feeling of wonderment. That is gone cause the servers are not up so you open the game up to a "server is not responding message". It hurts that the leaderboards are not working cause there are some fantastic score attack levels that will be very competitive. Also each level seems to have a two player section where two people are needed to find extra items, without online I cant do this. Also not knowing where all my friends are is odd, being connected to everyone was one of the better aspects of the game. So for the moment it feels like half a game, but its still a phenomenal half.

Hmm, good point. Well Brawl is mostly remixes of classics so its a kind of unfair but yeah Brawl has better and way more music. But this is right there.

Seems like that huh, I play what I know I will love, this year its been like a buffet for me. IBest year in gaming in a long time.

I usually dont care to talk about what I dont like, I dont see the point, sadly it seems that I am the opposite of most forum folk who love to trash games more than praise them.

Vader where is your sense of adventure? Trying stuff you think you won't like could really broaden your horizon's. Try gaming outside your comfort zone for once.

But LBP has lincensed music correct? The one song that was removed was from a Somalian performer, correct? At least for remixes you still have to do work, plus the Brawl theme with translations when you finish the Subspace Emisary was just Epic.

That's how I came across Animal Crossing. For a long time I didn't think I'd like it at all; it was way too cute, and there wasn't any set goals, high-score, or ending. But I decided to take a chance, and bought it. It was made by Nintendo, so how bad could it be? Well, as you guys already know, I ended up loving it! So yeah, sometimes it is worth taking a chance and trying something radically different. You might be surprised. Happy

I play a ton of different games, probably more than anyone here. I generally own and talk about my favorites which are normally those games I knew I would love in the first place. This year I tried PixelJunk Monsters a tower building game, not for me. I played Puzzle Quest which turns out I love.

And yes LBP has lots of licensed music. Well whatever its great. Nyaa

You really should try the Ubisoft Wii-games. Sure they are crap, but at least the reviews should be entertaining. All the 90+ Reviews are getting boring, time to review horsez 2 Vader.

Yeah I'm the same way as well. I play what I like. And while that doesn't mean that some of the games that I don't pick are games that I don't like it's the ones that I do play happen to be ones I'm more interested in playing so naturally I jump on the ones that interest me the most. I've been gaming for a very long time and I keep a watchful eye on the industry so I can tell which games I'll get the most entertainment from. I also don't dwell to much on talking about games that don't interest me because that seems to be just a waste of time to me.
