I'm really debating to where I should go after college.

I was thinking of Australia, but I'd like some more insight on other countries as well (and yes Australians can tell me more about Australia).

Here's are some things to describe what I like and how I am:

- I am very very left in my political views.

- I enjoy warm weather but a little snow and cold I can deal with

- I like the city

- I like the beach

- I want to be a pediatrcian or a psychologist

- Not too materialistic. All I need is a nice computer, gaming system, nice TV, and a car that functions and that's about it for my material needs.

- I like nightlife

You know, you may not need to go out of the country. Just go to Miami. That'll pretty much take care of all of that. Get a cheap apartment off of South Beach. You wouldn't even really need a car down there.  You'll have heat, a city, beach, nightlife and overall a fairly liberal vibe.

True, but I also feel like challenging myself. I don't know why but I really want to go to a different country just to prove myself that I can. Plus it's a HUGE world out there. I want to experience it in more than one country.

In all fairness, Miami is a whole other country. Just look at Vader. It's what's made him the man he is today.

Go to Holland. I don't know how the beaches are there, though. WinkWink

Moving to a different country is a pretty big challenge if you want to live/work/study there legally, so you may not have too many choices in terms of where you get to go.  In addition, since the GFC many countires have severely limited the number of student and work visas that they issue, I know that is the case here in Australia and also in Great Britain.

If you are thinking long-term Australia does have a shortage of medical professionals though, so there are special allowances for doctors/nurses etc... (I would not think pyschologists would fit in that category).

As for whether you'd like it here, having lived in both the US and Australia for exactly the same number of years I have to say that Australia is the far superior society (in terms of quality of life and the value of life).  The only problem is that they have no enumerated Bill of Rights, which for a US citizen takes some getting used to.  Other than that, it's paradise.  I split my time between the city and the regional areas and I really enjoy my time in both places.

Many places in Europe are in a bit of a shambles at the moment so it's hard to know what to recommend.

Don't listen to foolz, Amsterdam is terrible, unless you like degradation and filth.  It reminds me of something out of a JG Ballard novel as a completely dystopian eurotrash hell-hole when in theory it should have been great.  I guess it will test the levels of how liberal you are (it did for me) with legal drugs and prostitution and very high level of random crime.

I certainly wouldn't recommend Cyprus for anything other than a week long holiday.  I myself am looking for a way out.

Places in Europe I have a lot of love for and like to visit whenever I can, are Berlin and Dublin.  I think I would be happy living in either one of those places.  London is a place I have a lot of love and a lot of hate for (having lived there for 9 years), not sure I could stay there again for more than 2-3 months every year.

I think coastal (or near coastal) places in the US are also good for someone to live.  Actually I can think of a lot of places in the US I could be happy living if I had US citizenship.

Montreal and Vancouver are two places I like very much in theory but I haven't had the chance to visit either yet.  I need to fit them into my travel plans soon.  They seem like nice places for someone to live.

edit: I realised foolz said Holland and not Amsterdam, which I guess makes a difference.  I hear Rotterdam is much better.  You have a huge port, lots of big cranes ... Iga.  Rotterdam should be cool.

Go where there's work.  Disregarding that, try Vancouver, BC.

Oh and whatever you do, stay away from Juarez, Mexico right now. Fairly sure that's the current murder capitol of the world at the moment.

Canada always seemed interesting to me, but isn't it super cold there?

Depends where you are in Canada. Most areas get cold in winter, bitterly cold in a lot of them actually. But Vancouver is right on the coast and stays fairly warm due to some ocean currents. Very similar weather to Seattle if you're familiar with that.

If you really want a challenge, get some job with the UN where they send you to random countries whenever there is a disaster or disease outbreak.

DO it. There are a lot of selfless hippy chicks that need comfort in the harsh foreign climates.

It is, its mostly a carribean country disgusied as an American city. When I go outside of Miami I get shocked cause its so different in actual America. Though I suppose most major cities with diversity are like Miami.

Do you have a lot of games I can borrow? If so yes please move here! Nyaa

New York, San Francisco, and Honolulu are the only cities I've seen that have as much diversity as Miami, none of them are really alike though. They are all their own beasts. They're all cities  that everyone needs to visit though.

Try the Peace Corp. first. Great on your resume, and there are material benefits beyond the humanitarian gains (free travel, college loans etc...) 90% of the positions they have require a bachelor's degree, but they do have other ways of getting in.  It's fairly effective and popular route for people who want to go into politics or NGO's.

I'm going to visit New York in April.
