If you read my Handheld Summer thread, you saw that I was jubiliant about finding a translated version of Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart.  I was ridiculously unhappy that the game was never translated as I'm a big fan of the both the main series and the spin-off DQM series, and had written it off years ago as a game I'd never get to play.

So 6 years later when I'm finally given the shot to play this long lost game, needless to say I'm excited.  I am in fact, ecstatic . . . until I actually start playing it.  Dear lord this game is dull.  I won't go into details, as I already have in my other thread, but to make a long story short they made the original play mechanics secondary and added in an entirely new system that will just bore you to tears.

It's been a long time since I've been this disappointed in a game.  Sure my hopes were probably a bit too high, which is understandable, but this game just didn't even come close to delivering.  Had I not already played and enjoyed DQM: Joker I could likely see myself never touching this series again.

Recently? Conduit.

You can see the potential. I just wish they would ditch the multiplayer and put all their effort into making a better campaign. Add some cutscenes, a persistent gameworld, better graphics, a decent story, some better desgined levels.

It's like a framework at the moment.

This is easy.  Yoshi's Story seriously dissappointed me.  Remember the goodness that was Yoshi's Island on the SNES?  Well, this "sequel" was too easy and short.  I payed $60 for this turd.

I can understand that.  I was lucky that I never made that connection.  I played the game before I owned it, so I knew exactly what I was getting into.   I firmly believe that this was the kind of game you had to go into with no expectations to enjoy, which is what I did and ultimately I did have fun with it.  On the other hand I also only paid about $25 for my copy so that probably helped things out.

Funny to me that Yoshi's Island DS is what Yoshi's Story should have been back then.

To say that Prince of Persia: Warrior Within disappointed me would be a massive understatement. I literally hate that game. I absolutely loved PoP: Sands of Time, but the direction Ubisoft went with its sequel was complete and utter garbage. Sorry, but drastically changing the game's art style just to suit an M Rated-only audiance was a horrible idea, IMO. Sad

Don't forget about the horrible heavy metal guitars.

Yeah, I left that out because it was just too awful to mention. Sad

I'll open up a can of bitter worms again, but The World Ends With You disappointed me. I won't mention again why, but it did, $40 of it.

Also, Prince of Persia, the new one was disappointing.

Two games. The first is Final Fantasy XII. It's like they decided to ignore the best things about FFXII to focus on a new combat system and the graphics. And yes, Balthier is a shit character too.

Secondly Half-Life 2. It really shouldn't have disappointed me because I'd played Half-Life and kenw how boring it was. Sorry, but going around hitting pieces of wood with a crowbar in between shooting people neither builds tension nor is good storytelling. And the story sucks. If you're going to include themes and oh-so-subtle references don't use a book as bad as 1984 to do so. WinkWink The only reason anybody likes Alyx is because she's a girl. Not even because she's hot, but since the Last Duke Nukem when have you ever seen a woman in a FPS? Exactly. At the same time it was technically good (not in terms of pacing, though), but in every other way I could see what they were trying to achieve and make me feel it, but they did it in such an inept way I just wanted the whole experience to end. And there was so much fucking filler. The game should've been about 5 hours long. Sigh.

Ironically Episode 1 and 2 were the biggest surprises. I suppose the biggest problem with Half-Life 2 was the filler, as in Episode 1 and 2 it doesn't matter that all the ambitious things they tried didn't fall flat on their face.

relatively recently i remember being disappointed by the stupid Nights game on wii.  Yes, i was foolish enough to let nostalgia of the saturn Nights games make me hope this was going to be a good game.  I won't even go into how the game played, the voice acting for Nights is the worse thing i ever heard (worse than the bauhaus guitars in warrior within).

Not wanting to really elaborate, I'll just list some out:

Pokemon Pearl, Halo PC, Mario vs Donkey Kong 2, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Fire Emblem (GBA), Final Fantasy XII, God of War, Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Odin Sphere, Paper Mario, Super Mario 64.

That should cover annoying everyone.

Forgot about Phantom Hourglass. That was the most disappointing Zelda ever.

I played it before the hype (if that is possible to believe), but was still dissapointed. Play some old jazz and gen-Y jizzes themselves like they are hearing Hendrix for the first time.

Sword of Hope 2 was a disapointment for me. The first one was so good I was expecting the second to be the same (even after 15 years).

having been somehow oblivious to the hype relating to bioshock i have to say it couldn't have made a better first impression on me.  mood is king, atmosphere is queen and the beautiful art-deco setting is just the icing on the cake.  all this would be enough for me to love the game regardless of how it plays but if the first few hours are anything to go by then there is a great game in there too.  i'm most certainly buying number 2

Oh yeah I'd kind of blocked this one out of my memory.   As far as the gameplay went it was still an okay game, but it didn't meet my expectations.  And man oh man NiGHTS voice was painfully bad.  Ice pick in the ear bad.
