I don't watch the world cup, but while working I can't help but follow it by the cries of agony or euphory of our neighbours.  We apparently won from Japan with 3-2, after having trailed behind at 0-2.  Everyone's going mad it seems.  Poor Japan.

What I am watching however is Doctor Who on Netflix.  They have 5 seasons on Netflix, starting at the 11th Doctor.  I immediately loved it's daft premise, coupled with an insane budget.  I'm at the end of my 3rd season now though, and I must say it's all gotten a bit po faced.  Too little childish wonder.  Still one episode to go before the switch to the 12th Doctor (or so I've learned late last night) and I'm dreading it.  Just like the Doctor himself I hate it when things end, and I can't possible imagine anyone playing the Doctor with as much gusto as Matt Smith in his first season.

That was indeed a devastating loss for the Japanese.

I gave up a long time before the 11th one.

I have a couple friends who are Whovians, and they are funny as hell. The only thing they ever do is bitch about the show and hoe terrible it is. anytime I ask them if I should start watching it they tell me stay away from it, as the later seasons will just frustrate you and break your heart.

I use to watch Doctor Who back in the day. The only one that I ever got into and watched pretty much all of was the one with the fourth doctor portrayed by Tom Baker. He was terrific and will always be the definitive doctor to me.

Luckily for me, I have no point of reference, as the 11th doctor is all I've seen.  Once more, ignorance is bliss.  yes

Belgium defeated Brasil in a very tense match.  Or so I've read, I only followed it cursory while finishing off some loose ends of work on my last evening before holliday.

For those here who know how soccer works (Foolz?): what's up with overtime?  I thought you could only go into overtime when both teams had scored an equal amount of goals at the end of the regular 90 minutes of playtime?

Concerning Doctor Who: I watched the first episode of the 12th doctor yesterday.  It played well on how everybody must have felt "what's up with cranky old grey person playing doctor who?", both showing the Doctor himself not being fully content with his new self, and his companion coming to terms that he is different.  Had some good laughs too.  After having 'mourned' the loss of the impish and infectuous joy of Matt Smith's portrayal of the Doctor for a couple of days, I might pick up watching this new season again, see how it goes from here.  If it ends up sucking though, I won't hesitate to just stop watching.

By overtime I assume you're referring to stoppage/injury time, which is added on to the end of each half based on (very approximately) how long the ball has been out of play due to injuries or other stoppages. So, for instance, if Neymar is break dancing for 1 minute after being fouled then, at the end of the half, they'll play for an another minute.

Extra time, which consists of two fifteen minute halves, does indeed only occur if the scores are tied and it's a knockout match.

Thanks for this clear explanation. Sadly, I seem to have missed the 5 minutes of breakdancing.  Sad

You need a lot of experience to pick out the finer details of play like that.

One example of his slick b-boying skills. He doesn't even need a mat.

I don’t really care for soccer but love the drama from it.  We could have a thread dedicated to soccer gifs.

in England there is a cheese rolling event where people chase a cheese wheel down a hill. They inevitably fall over and roll the rest of the way down. Neymar has obviously seen it.

Been very late in continuing Daredevil on Netflix, Elektra did make it very uninteresting for a while but it's better now. LOL wtf when she slits that guys throat then asks if Daredevil still wants her.

I started watching Doctor Who again a couple of days ago.  the 12th doctor is much more bearable if you leave some time inbetween incarnations.  He's even starting to mellow out  a bit it seems, which makes him seem a bit more human again.  I'll probably continue watching the 2 seasons of his they currently have available on Netflix.  At the current rate, they'll still last me through the end of the year.
