Do it, it is a great gaming system.
1. Depends on the title as they vary greatly in size, but if you have DSL (or comparable) it's not an issue either way.
2. Battery is comparable to DS on the 2000, I don;t have a 3000.
3. Load issues were a problem with early games when developers were new to the system and were just porting PS2 games over. These days it's hard to find a game that had load issues.
Other: It's a decent web browser when you don't want to get up to use the computer (for browsing, not entering text). It's a decent MP3 player, and then you have the free comic reader as well.
Plenty of A-list games, like God of War Chains of Olympus, Vice City Stories, Tons of RPGs and sports titles and for you there is that mediocre future Harvest Moon (is was okay, not great).

I'll be lying if I said that Harvest Moon wasn't a motivator here as well. A new one is coming out sometime this year I believe and it looks very good. Better than any of the other traditional Harvest Moon games that have come out over the last few years at any rate.
on the minus side you have: a handheld which wanted to be a home console (at least for a very long time) meaning a lot of games (especially in its first two years) aren't really suited to handheld gaming and are either ports or "little brother" versions of console games. It's not so comfortable to play (i have a 1000 psp). it is very heavy for a handheld, the buttons (especially the shoulder buttons) are very bad, the d-pad is very hard to manage (i gave up on street fighter alpha 3 max because of it), that analog nub thingy ... well i'm glad it's there but it's no analog stick and is oftentimes frustrating. my biggest complain though (and this is completely subjective so pay no mind if you don't think it applies) is that it has a ton of great games ... which i just don't want to play. i bought so many games for it, and finished very very few.
i think it's worth having though and i would definitely say go for it. my only reservation is if the money you spend would be eating into your ps3 budget because i know you need one of those as it can offer you somethings you don't have at present (bluray and all the big strictly HD games and ps3 exclusive). the psp doesn't have as much to add to what you have already with your wii and DS
My bro wanted to buy a PSP Go. He thought it was the next generation PSP. Until I told him it was just like the one he owned, never played and made me sell for him.
Except with no disc drive.
Some people eh?

While I do want a PS3 there is one real harsh reality about it that is probably holding me back more than the cost and that's the time element. My time for console gaming is pretty much relegated to the weekends now, and not even too much of that. Between all the other responsibilities of the world I just don't have that much time to spend in front of the television.
On the other hand I do have some time during the day where I can still sneak in some gaming. Breaks at work, in bed before I sleep, etc.

I actually would consider the Go if it were about a $100 cheaper. At $250 though its not even funny to joke about buying.

I has hanging on Amazon just browsing to see what's out there and I noticed that the PSP really has a large collection of good games for under $20 in the greatest hits collections. In fact, there's actually a pretty large selection for under $15. Just $50 could go pretty far on software. Plus there's the added bonus of being able to pick up some PSOne classics that I've been interested in playing again.
Soooooo I know Ask has one, but does anyone else? I'm just curious about a few things regarding the system.
1. How long do PSOne games take to download?
2. How is the battery life these days on the 2000 or 3000 (I won't be doing picking up the PSPGo anytime)
3. Are the load times an issue on many games?
And hit me up with any other info I should know to help decide if I should pick this up?
I say it's worth it. It may not have the library as the DS, but there are enough games to satisfy anyone.
1. Depends on the game. Only games that have large download sizes are the games with multiple discs. FFVII or VIII is over a gig for example and it take a while even with DSL.
2. 3-4 hours, sometimes less depending on the game and how much energy it sucks out of the PSP. UMD movies last about 2-3 hours. The PSP sucks when it comes to battery.
3. Load times were an issue in older games and some games today. But lately, games have had good loading times. Some of the newer games that need loading have an optional data install which takes away any loading time. Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dissidia, and SoulCalibur or Tekken 6 have this which takes away the loading time.
Also, SCEA's selection for PSOne classics are pathetic. It's really not worth it for PSOne classics if you ask me because there aren't that many.

Now Playing: Golden Sun Dark Dawn, God of War Ghost of Sparta, and DKC Returns

Wow - I'd say the hype was getting to him but what hype?

aspro said:^It's worth owning, so it's worth a thread. Was not worth it at launch, I waited 2 years, but it's got enough decent exclusives at this point Raven.
My post was a joke based upon robio's use of the words "picking up"a PSP. I chose to read it literally rather than its implied meaning of buying one.

His 360 broke, he wont repair it again for a 4th box, he has barely any time so thinks a portable is best.
Then he buys a portable and a copy of fifa and never plays it.

Sorry man. My subtly meter has been broken lately.

No worries. It probably wasn't funny anyway, at least not to anyone else but myself.

I literally picked up a PSP from the shelf then put it back several times in a row before walking out of the shop without having ever really considered buying it. I am not sure why such a pointless, yet somewhat fun in an anti-Sony sort of way, action is worth a thread.
There we go! That should be easier to understand.
I ended up getting a used Slim from Gamestop last night, along with a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions, and I've gone ahead and got a copy of Spyro 3 from the PSN Store. Enjoying it so far. Very lightweight compared to the DSi, and it's taken me a lot of time to get used to not having a touch screen on a handheld again. Very strange.
One interesting thing I've noticed about myself, and I think partially prompted the decision to pick up the PSP is that lately I've been sort of stuck in the past not enjoying new games as much and really preferring to play my old 16 bit and 32 bit era games. Anyway for that need this will be just what the doctor ordered.

what happened to that emulator handheld you got last year? if you softmod your psp to run custom firmware, it will play almost anything

Ahhh you are referring to the Dingoo. To make a long story short, it's lost in a place that only my son knows about, but so far the bastard ain't talking.
I had fun with it for a while, but other than NES and GBA it wasn't great at emulating most of the programs it claimed it could. Gen 1 Capcom arcade games were okay for the most part, Gen 2 was a lot more shaky. SNES games were hit or miss, and Genesis games completely sucked. Still I got a lot of good GBA action on it, and it wasn't a half bad media player.
But after a while I got more into the DSi, so I would let me son (the 3 year old) play with it since I could some of his cartoons and videos he liked on it. And then one day. . . it disappeared never to be seen again. I'm sure there's a secret stash somewhere that had the Dingoo, my Wall-E DVD, Pokemon Platinum, and countless other little treasures.
If I could figure out how to do the custom firmware mod on the PSP I'd do it, but it looks a little more complicated than what I had to do for the Wii, and without someone to show me I'm content to just play what I have on it for now.
