http://nintendoeverything.com/wii-u-hardware-sales-have-now-surpassed-those-of-the-dreamcast/

Wii U hardware sales are now at 10.73 million units. What does that mean? Well, the console has now surpassed the SEGA Dreamcast, which sold 10.6 million units.

It’s true that it did take Nintendo quite a bit longer to reach its sales total. The Dreamcast hit its mark within 18 months whereas it’s taken Wii U just under three years.

No that's not true and every media source that keeps reporting it should give me a dollar.

Dreamcast was available worldwide for 18 before production ended, but it launched in Japan almost a year before the big 9/9/99 date. That was a time when Japan actually bought consoles too. So if we're going to be accurate it's more 28 months.

Sure it doesn't make the Wii U look much better, but it's driving me nuts seeing to see blatantly wrong information everywhere.

Most of the sales came from the massive price drops anyway.

(WII U PRICE DROP WHEN?)

Yeah that's when I got mine. Part of a Sonic bundle that had Sonic Adventure, Sonic Block Party, and a Sonic Adventure 2 demo for just over $100.

That was the result of a government mandated recall.

I agree....but then again I'd say that about all the new systems.

Dreamcast was cutting edge, affordable on day 1, focused on fun and innovation without gimmicks, designed for gamers & took some very bold risks. It was also YEARS ahead of the competition in numerous ways. All these new systems are safe and boring in comparison. We'll never see something like the Dreamcast again.

The controller looked like an alien and was impossible to hold.  That was a bold risk indeed.

Yes it is. I don't think the Jaguar even broke a million.

I remember at the time Jaguar came out, I had not been paying attention to gaming for a few years at that point....that was my one point in life where I thought I had outgrown gaming and moved on to partying, girls and music. Even before that though, I wasn't as knowledgable about games as I became in the PS1 era. But, I wanted to get a new system and had heard all these new machines were coming out and were going to blow people away.....the Saturn, Playstation, N64, and Jaguar. I honestly remember laughing at the Playstation....I thought the name was stupid & I really thought it was silly that a company like Sony would be making a game console. Ha!

Saturn and N64 had most of my interest just because I had grown up with Nintendo and Sega. But then when I heard Atari had the Jaguar coming, I really thought they were going to be the ones to go with. Luckily, my brother got a Playstation and showed me Tomb Raider. My mind was blown. The rest is history.
