Glad you enjoyed Lebowski.  It is very funny (and infinitely quotable) indeed.  I really like Coen Bros movies, including Big Lebowski (probably one of my favourites).  Can you elaborate how you mean they lack an ending?  Take TBL for example, what more did you think needed to be said?

I have seen the vast majority of them and I don't remember thinking that about anyone of them

I dont know I felt there was no climax or anything. It just sort of all gets resolved very easy and Bucemi dies. I am also thinking of No Country, the movie sort of just stops, that is kind of how I felt about Lebowski.

OK i see what you mean.  I guess it's why they are considered sort of cult films and not blockbusters.

RE No Country: It's like that in the book as well.  There is no resolution.  He (Javier Bardem character) is just evil impersonate.  People like that walk the earth and are not always swiftly brought to justice and sometimes never get their comeuppins (that's my interpretation of it).

I hated the Big Lebowski the first time I saw it, but each time I rewatched it I found something else to like about it and eventually it got to the point where I love it.  It's one of my favorite movies now.  The movie doesn't have a traditional structure of "introduction - conflict - resolution" as its focus and that threw me off entirely.  It's there, but it's really just an excuse to to keep following the characters as they go through what is probably a fairly normal week in their lives.   THe same thing goes for Napoleon Dynamite. When I expected a movie with a plot I was confused, but once I watched it as a character study I loved it.

By the way if I can recommend one of my favorite movies to the group, check out Lone Star. It was kind of an obscure film for it's time (though I did get an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay in 1997). It stars Chris Cooper before he really hit it big (or sorta big) and is the story of an unsolved murder in a Texas border town.  It has a "sins of the father" theme to it and has a really impressive technique of jumping back and forth in time as a lot of older timers tell the current sheriff what they remember about the time when the murder did or didn't happen.  Can't recommend it enough.

Sounds good Robio, I will check it.

By the way has anyone else seen "The Killer Inside Me"?  I spoke about it some weeks ago when I watched it.  It's not for everyone (graphic depiction of women getting badly beat) but it may be worth watching for some.

What were you doing in the 80s? Are you sure you even grew up in this era? angry

Yes those were both Coen Brothers movies. I'll agree with you on both of those. I never got Fargo for the life of me. It just seemed like one long ass joke about an amusing accent.

yes, both are by the Coens.  Fargo is a black comedy and unless you see it as such there is the danger you won't get it.  It's all very tongue in cheek, from the Minnesotan accents and everyone saying Ya! all the time to the pregnant detective, everything.  If you just see it as a kidnap thriller then it isn't all that effective.  Raising Arizona is very funny.

i normally recommend Blood Simple as an introduction to the Coens work and style.  It was their first one, already establishes many of their trade mark elements and it's an absolutely brilliant film.

There's an armor store on one of Oblivion's towns called Hammer and Tongs.

However, I would be wary of watching something that gets labeled as "zany". Who says zany anymore?

I don't know.  This just looks kind of cool in an old school claymation kind of way (i know it's all CG but) and I miss that kind of thing.  Have found it easier to watch animation films in the last couple of weeks for some reason

Yeah I get what they were going for but they could have protrayed that better. The last shot we have of him is getting out of that car accident all screwed up right. It makes you think, well this guy needs to get to a hospital, or he is in serious trouble, what happens next. It doesn't give the message of this guy will walk off into the sunset and be a representation of evil in the world.

I was a baby and a little kid. I didn't get to choose what movies I watched, it sort of just happens.

Done watching A Town Called Panic.  That's some seriously, seriously weird shit.  It's just completely fucking absurd.  Whatever these guys were smoking ... i don't even want to know.

I don't know if I can recommend it to anyone... except perhaps foolz.  It sort of reminded me of some of his writing, except it made even less sense.  Actually yeah I think foolz might enjoy it
