Having a backlog of 20 games with each you paid $10 for is still $200. Not to be stubborn but I just don't understand. Is this just a gradual thing that happens over a very long duration of time?
Well I can't explain a backlog of 20 games as I've never had one. I start to panic when the backlog is as big as five.

They just build up over time. I'm quite lazy about completing games. Some times I just lose interest like Dead Space. Sometimes I hit a difficulty spiked wall like Ninja Gaiden. Sometimes I stop playing for a while and when I go back the controls are so convoluted I have to re-learn everything from scratch.
Sometimes I buy something, try it and end up not that impressed.
Sometimes I just can't be bothered to play anything. Like now.
The reason: I'm consumerist, especially about games. I hate this in me so much but I haven't been able to fight it yet to a satisfactory degree. I think it's my biggest character flaw and it is against the values I try to live by.
I just can't stop myself buying a good game, even if I know I may never find time to play it. And no, I'm not rich, I'm a bloody teacher. Along with DVDs, vinyl and books that kills most all my disposable income.
This is something that distresses me greatly and if I am unable to do something about it with self-restraint in the next few months I will seriously consider seeking professional help.
To your point, I'm right there with you. For most of my life I held out against consumerism, not buying even furniture or appliances that were not absolutely required. Gaming is my one hobby, and given the size of my collection, a constant source of regret and happiness.

Thank you buddy! Yep, on holiday here. It's been really good so far. Have been to Berlin for a few days and for the last two weeks I was cruising the West Country Coast of England (Devon, Cornwall, Dorset) crewing on a sailing boat ... wonderful experience. Now in London for a few days and will go backpacking to the French Pyrenees next week.
I haven't bought any games this month!!! Or thought about games all that much. I only have my DSlite with me and a bunch of cartridges but I find myself mostly going for arcadey (non-commital) games such as Contra 4 and Space Invaders Extreme (which are both incredible) and of course my indespensible Picross. More often than not though I find myself reaching for my paperback than the DS on trains etc or when I have a bit of time.
... certainly understand what you mean about "regret and happiness"
On vacation, if I have not already started an RPG, I go for the same non-commital fare, usually sports games on the PSP -- golf or NBA usually. Have fun on the rest of your vacation, as I am in the Southern hemisphere and therefore suffering through Winter, I am quite envious.

Go to Chinatown for lunch, get dim sum at Harbour City, really nice food priced decently too.
Thank you Foolz, hope all is well wit choo bro.
Thank you gg. I may do that today. I'm off to see the collection of prints in the Japanese section of the British Museum right now, which is one of the things I've missed the most in London. Afterwards I will walk to Soho so it will be very convenient to go to Chinatown for some scran

I've been to that section of the museum. Very cool, they even have this mock up Japanese tea house behind a barricade. I want to jump the fence and sit inside.
