Surprised by results.  I didn't vote cause I had hardly played any 2011 games but impressions were leading me to believe it was going to be Arkham City.  I suppose Xenoblade could have been a real contender if it had also been released in the US last year

Fortune Street made it in! I really wanted that game, it sounded like a great concept, and given it's long lineage in Japan it should be perfected by now.

When I described it enthusiastically to Mrs. Aspro she winced, then went back to what she was doing, so I took the hint and did not get it (since it seems like the most fun would be local multiplayer).

Wow, Uncharted 3 didn't do as good as one might have thought.

I think Skyward Sword, some of us played it and never got around to Skyrim and Batman so that's part of the reason they are lower.

I think people will love Xenoblade, unless they cannot get past how the graphics look on an HDTV.

I want to know if God likes all those crappy religious games that are made.

It is essentially a more grown up/ evolved version of Monopoly, and while it is best enjoyed with some friends, the AI is shockingly good and the characters personality even comes through how they play the game. Baby Bowser for instance plays like an asshole and will at times will make a move that screws with another player rather than advance his own position. I'll have to write up something about it one of these dqys.

Here are the games released in 2011 that I have beaten to this point:

Skyrim

Yakuza 4

Uncharted 3

Vanquish

Batman: Arkham City

Bulletstorm

LA Noire

Rage

Dead Space 2

Dragon Quest 6

Shadows of the Damned

Game Dev Story

Text Zedventure

Saints Row: The Third

The Awards: (I am copying Vader's format)

Best Graphics (Technical Ability): Uncharted 3

Best Story: Yakuza 4

Best Music: LA Noire

Best New IP: Bulletstorm

Most Disapointing Game: Rage

Best Small Game (Downloadable): Game Dev Story

Best Voice Acting: Shadows of the Damned

Here are my own awards:

Best Sound Design: Dead Space 2

Most Game in a Game: Saint's Row the Third

Biggest Game: Skyrim

GOTY: LA Noire

This was a very tough decision for me because there were several games that I would put at the top -- Yakuza 4, Saints Row 3, Bulletstorm, Skyrim -- if I was judging by pure enjoyment. For technical mastery I'd have Uncharted, Dead Space 2, Vanquish and LA Noire.

I gave it to LA Noire because it came down to Skyrim and LA Noire in terms of accomplishment. Given that Skyrim is building on Morrowind and Oblivion I thought it a greater achievement that Team Bondi's first game (and last) was able to create a whole new type of game and technology and pull it off almost flawlessly.  The level of ambition that it took to make the game is epic.  The successfully recreated a historically well known city damn near perfectly while also introducing their facial tech.  On top of that they wrote some great dialog and made an acceptable open-world game.

Why isn't there a smallest game award?
