Partly, but I think people have given up on light gun games. I would say the home consoles have killed the craziness of the arcade. We need more craziness.
Can't forget SEGA's Star Wars with the epic lightsaber battles with Darth using a joystick.
The X-wing graphics blew my mind first time.
As a rule I stayed away from arcade games like that because they always cost two or three times as much as other games to play. I'll stick with the ones I can play for a quarter.
SEGA's Afterburner. Too bad I only saw the hobo version here in Mexico.

I was a badass at this game.
Time Crisis was incredible with the guns that had that recoil.
There was this arcade game that was setup in central london, it was like those NASA sims where you sat in this unit and the whole thing moved, it had a screen in built and seated about 6 people and you moved on rails and shot stuff. I believe it was a Namco game but I can't remember what it was.
I used to go to arcades in my youth and loved some of the set ups.
What are the best machines and peripherals you remember? Pics please.
This is the Aliens Extermination arcade machine, a rig set up for an on rails shooter it let us live out our fantasy of having and holding a fully functional pulse rifle. I can't remember if there was force feedback but I think there was, it pulsed in your hands and felt very satisfying to shoot. Shame we've almost given up on gun peripherals for home consoles.
