Bought series 1 of this.

avatar-the-last-airbender.jpg

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbender#Air_Nomads

The series follows the adventures of the main protagonist Aang and his friends (who found him frozen in ice), who must save the world by defeating the evil Fire Lord and ending the destructive war with the Fire Nation.

I got season 1 which is 5 discs for a good price. But then I find out that there are only 20 episodes. With a measly 4 episodes per disc. Each episode is about 22 minutes so that's about 1 and a half hours per disc. WTF?

Other toon dvds have 7-8 or even 9 episodes on one disc. I see no reason for this. Anyhow, it's very funny this series and seems to have likeable characters and its going somewhere. It's settled into a sort of middle gear at the moment, 5 episodes in. Hope it ramps things up.

I've started in His and Her Circumstances (AKA Kare Kano)

His and Her Circumstances

Fun show, and avoids pushing anime stereotypes too hard.  A bit melodramatic, but that's probably realistic in this sense.  Only about 5 episodes in so have to watch more to place it, but so far a thumbs up.

Never really got into Avatar tbh. I only saw a few episodes, though, but the ones I did see were boring and not very funny. Plus the girl really annoyed me. Nyaa

For me it looks like the sort of thing that I'd need to watch a few episodes to get into, so I'd probably end up liking it.

It's not as good as other toons I've watched, it's very watchable but some episodes progress the story, others feel like filler. But it's always at the least, mildly entertaining.

I love how all the good guys are white americans and all the bad guys are asians.

wiki

The casting of white actors in the Asian-influenced Avatar universe triggered negative reactions from some fans marked by accusations of racism, a letter-writing campaign, and a protest outside of a Philadelphia casting call for movie extras.[17][18][19][20] Rathbone dismissed the complaints in an interview with MTV, saying, "I think it's one of those things where I pull my hair up, shave the sides, and I definitely need a tan. It's one of those things where, hopefully, the audience will suspend disbelief a little bit."[21] Movie critic Roger Ebert was one of the critical voices against the casting. When asked about casting a white cast to portray the characters, he said, "The original series Avatar: The Last Airbender was highly regarded and popular for three seasons on Nickelodeon. Its fans take it for granted that its heroes are Asian. Why would Paramount and Shyamalan go out of their way to offend these fans? There are many young Asian actors capable of playing the parts."[22] Jevon Phillips of the Los Angeles Times noted that despite Shyamalan's attempts to defuse the situation, the issue will "not fade away or be overlooked", and that this film exemplifies the need for a debate within Hollywood about racial diversity in its films

Thundercats Cartoon Writer Murdered

Police in Florida this week said 56-year-old Stephen Perry, who wrote for the 1980s cartoon series Thundercats, was murdered. The man had gone missing for nearly two weeks, and police reportedly found his arm inside of his abandoned van on the grounds of a Tampa Bay hotel May 16.

His Zephyrhills, Florida apartment had been ransacked and his two roommates were also discovered to be missing, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Those two were found last week, however, and arrested. James Davis, 45, was being held on suspicion of drug charges and failing to appear in court. Wife, Roxanne Davis, 49, was charged on suspicion of violating probation, burglary and grand theft.

Although not officially suspects, the two were described by police as persons of interest.

Despite his successes in cartoons, including writing for SilverHawks and authoring the Marvel Comics series Timespirits, Perry had financial difficulties after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Last year he reached out to fans and asked for financial help.

At one point he posted on a website that he was "eating at churches once a day." The Los Angeles-based Hero Initiative, a nonprofit supportedby Spider-Man creator Stan Lee and others, started helping Perry out least year, prompting the writer to state that "I'm back on my feet, at least for now."

There have been rumors, by the way, that Thundercats would be turned into a Hollywood feature.

They found his arm??  Jesus Christ!!! I was never a real fan of either cartoon he wrote for, but I recognize his name from a lot of the comic conventions that were down here.  I had no idea he was so down on his luck.  Wow.... that's a hell of a way to spend your last few years. Poor guy.

Damnit, I was waiting around for season 2 of this.

Only to learn it was canceled due to financing issues.
