Transformers Fall of Cybertron is pure 1980s

From the outset, this game is squarely aimed at fans of the G1 animated series and the movie that it spawned – which, imaginatively, was called Transformers: The Movie.

Transformers Fall of Cybertron Eurogamer review

"Fall of Cybertron is the game Transformers fans wanted, for sure: a litany of homages and celebrations and a marked improvement on the washed-out smallness of War for Cybertron.

The doubts I have are that very few G1 episodes were set on cybertron the most important one is probably when the 6 aerial units went back in time to meet young Prime or the one with Primes love interest. I would like to see if the Cyber tron they have made is more 80s and less like the movies version.

Blank square^

New on DVD: Sky Commanders – The Complete Animated Series (1986)

Welcome to “The High Frontier,” a new continent floating deep within the South Pacific, brought to the surface by a new radioactive element Phata 7. Teaming with almost prehistoric life, this new hostile environment is the stage for a battle over the new element that could lead to world domination if it fell into the hands of the evil General Lucas Plague (whom I’m guessing wants to use the Phata 7 for some nefarious scheme that involves plagues, just a guess cause of the name) and The Raiders. Luckily General Mike Summit and his Sky Commanders are on hand to stop The Raiders.

This insane yet generic set up was the basis for the cartoon “Sky Commanders”, an ambitious toy line featuring figures that traveled on ziplines. I had a few and they were fun, but the premise was pretty one-note, and it shows in the cartoon. Each of the teams are equipped with all manner of high altitude line travel. The Sky Commanders all wear technological packs that fire laser cables. These lines shoot out as lasers and solidify when the grapnel attaches to something. All the packs have weapons and they even have a command ship. The villains have similar tech that seemed slightly cooler than the heroes (which is always the case, COBRA had all the cooler vehicles).

Of course there were lots of cool terms thrown around like “Gravity locks engage” and “Hotwire” accelerators but for the most part the show became a G.I.Joe knock off in some crazy floating mountains with crazy creatures and nature. Each team had its stereotypical characters and as was the cool thing at the time, the Sky Commanders were an internationally made up crew. There’s the cool guy, the big Swedish guy, the Scottish lass, the tech expert, etc. And they have cool names like Kodiak, Red, RJ, and Books, with the bad guys having names like Kreeg, Mordax, Raider Rath, and Cutter. Ah the 80’s.

It’s fun to see this again and to see how a cartoon was really more of a marketing tool than anything back then. Sure it happens now but not as often and not to the same extent. The sense of nostalgia is high with this one, and the cheese is palatable but if you’re an 80’s buff then check out “Sky Commanders”.

So I checked the episode list of Avengers Season 2.

I was wondering why much of it made no sense, why season 2 was patchy uneven and unsatisfying. There was all this, who is a Kree? What he's a Kree? I thought she was human? What the?

This is the order in which Disney XD aired it and which I was unfortunate enough to view it in.

1 -6 fine. Then it skips to 8, then to episode 14, then to 9, then 11, then back to 7.

indecision

On better news, I saw what I assume to be the last two episodes of Generator Rex, whilst season 3 was always enjoyable it wasn't as good as the previous two seasons IMO because of the changes. But at least they were brave enough to make story changes. The last two episodes sees everything come together in a satisfying way, a few things suddenly made sense, other long running plot threads were tied up. Aside from a Transformers mega construct moment it was really good. I hope they make more but if it ends like this, it's a very enjoyable series overall.

Fuck.

Generator Rex has aired its final episode, no more.

Thundercats Cancelled

Following the end of the show's first season, ThunderCats was not immediately renewed for a second, which led to speculations that the series would be cancelled.[28] During the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, Michael Jelenic and Jeff Prezenkowski announced that ThunderCats has been put on hiatus as they haven't gotten any word from Cartoon Network about the series' future yet.[29] In March, 2013, Dan Norton, posted his comment that further work on the Thundercats is unlikely in the near future.[30] The first season ThunderCats episodes are now showing in the new Toonami block on Adult Swim, along with Sym-Bionic Titan.[31][8] It was confirmed by ThunderCats art-director Dan Norton in early 2013 that the show had been canceled after only one season

Young Justice Cancelled

In January 2013, Cartoon Network had meetings with potential clients and promotional partners in which they announced their 2013-2014 programming lineup.[72] Young Justice will not be renewed for a third season. Cartoon Network has confirmed that the remaining episodes of the second season, Young Justice: Invasion, will air in their entirety. [73] Green Lantern: The Animated Series has received the same treatment, and both shows are expected to have their DC Nation slots replaced by new shows, Teen Titans Go! and Beware the Batman.

Don't know about Netflix, they repeat it on Disney XD everyday.

I watched a few more episodes. After the Skrull storyline things get back to good, there was another red hulk episode, Bucky returned, they were wiped out of history by Kang and Wolverine and Spiderman had become new avengers. Ultron came back and the Vision helped. Sad this series got canned.

So I've been watching the green lantern animated series.

Shame it's CG and the CG is so basic as the series is actually quite good. The audio, acting, music and scripts are all fine and would make a great DC animated series but they went with CGI. It's still an entertaining watch though.

I just read all the pages of this thread again and realised I haven't posted much since it ended.

So in summary from what I have been watching:

  • Ultimate Spiderman = Total shit
  • Hulk and the Agents of Smash = Shit
  • Green Lantern is a good series, shame it's 3D
  • The Clone Wars is a great series overall, if you love Star Wars it's a massive expansion in the universe, a must see
  • Young Justice is a worthy follow up to Justice League, great series
  • Avengers Assemble (which replaced Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes) is all right but not great
  • The Legend of Korra is probably the best show still on the air, a follow up to the excellent Avatar series, not as good as Avatar though

I watched some of the modern Transformers cartoon the other day, having never seen this version until now.

And WOW.....what a total piece of shit. THAT is not the fucking Transformers. That's is like 1996 Metallica compared to 1986 Metallica. How lame. I feel so sorry for kids these days.

Indeed. All subsequent Transformers tv shows have sucked in comparison to the Generation 1 originals. Get the complete series boxset, it's worth it.

I was eyeballing that. Transformers was by far my favorite cartoon as a kid. There's something just totally "metal" about it too....makes me wanna listen to some Megadeth.

It's a great set, starts off with the classic transformers on earth, then the movie where they kill everyone, then it follows on with Hotrod and co in the future.
