It started as a palette swap of World 1-2 from Super Mario Bros. and eventually morphed into a combination of different sections from multiple stages from Super Mario Bros.
It does start with and end with part of 1-2.

Mario Maker is still sold out on Zavvi.
I saw in a video, someone made some disco room with massive Bowsers caught in musical blocks. Looked amazing.
Are there any original assets in this game other than the replacement amiibo sprites? Any original backgrounds, enemies, blocks etc?
I saw SNES style Bowser.
No new backgrounds, enemies or blocks outside of downgrading and upgrading certain themes.
Ghost Houses and Airships weren't in Super Mario Bros. but Nintendo made new assets and music for those themes they also created new sprites for enemies that didn't exist until later.
Ghost Houses weren't in SMB 3 they created new music.
Airships weren't in Super Mario World so they create new music.
We got a new Bowser sprite for Super Mario World because he was in the clown car only in that game.

Thanks for the info, wish they would add more stuff or allow people to create their own assets like in Animal Crossing but obviously more sophisticated.

I started out making a level where you keep climbing up the mountain I added Boos and Boo Buddies so there was atleast some kind of a threat.
I think I made it too easy because it currently has a 100% completion rating.

Game arrived yesterday. Can I just play the levels you guys made or do I have to play the levels that come on disk before I have the option of playing user created levels?

You can start playing levels we make just go to Course World select courses. Input one of the level codes we posted.
You can than click on our Mii and choose the heart to favorite us so you can play our levels without inputting the code.
Though in 10 Mario challenge once you beat all but 4 of the premade levels you unlock the opportunity to play the Nintendo World Championship 2015 levels.

Played the game a bit this morning, finally. As soon as I unlocked the menu (whose stupid idea was it to lock the menu anyway) I got on with playing a few levels by you guys here. I played 3 by Leo, 3 by Ninty, 2 by Vader and 1 by Gemini (which admittedly I didn't finish as it was very long and I lost near the end and decided to retry it next time.
I enjoyed most all of the user created levels but I'm not sure how I feel about the "game" being marketed and sold as a full released. I don't feel the game is worth the amount of money I paid for it. Frankly I feel it should have been a bonus mode for New Super Mario Bros. U OR perhaps an eShop release for 10 euro. Maybe in time I'll change my time but for the time being I sort of regret buying it.

It's really strange. My copy of Splatoon (and a bunch of other things I had ordered in recent weeks) was apparently returned to amazon because they messed up somehow and were not able to deliver it to my address. I don't even understand what happened but they apparently automatically refunded me for it and asked me to order again if I want to. But I somehow feel no desire to do so. I took that as life preventing me from having that game no matter what I do. Who am I to try and interfere with "life"?
I don't know. I seem to be in a gaming slump and kind of don't feel like playing anything at the moment. After finishing Zelda: Link Between Worlds I just don't feel any particular game calling out to me. And now with work back at full swing, videogame time is very limited anyway.

Each Splatoon match is a few minutes long, life problems don't matter when you can grab 4 matches in 15 minutes.
I played some more. I did the 100 lives challenge. Came across some very sadistic levels. Left them a nice message to let them know how I felt about them (I can't get banned from Mario Maker can I?). Also came across one which played itself so I only had to watch. It was fun to look at, very elaborate and rather creative I thought.
