Still looking at RS1 pics. This game isn't bad looking. If they could have sorted out the framerate and fixed some dodgy textures...

Vidéo Red Steel

The bank level had a really bad framerate. Otherwise it looked good.

This pic has been captured on PC and made sharper, but it does look like this otherwise. That's why you will see me harp on about RS1 because with very small improvements like a stable framerate and better controls, it could have been really good.

Red Steel 2 is in a presentable state right now, as the "Next Month" page in Issue #34 of British Nintendomag-glass_10x10.gif magazine NGamer promises to feature a first look at Red Steel 2 and "MotionPlus swordsmanship" in the May 2009 issue, which will hit news stands on Wednesday March 25th.

This time next week we get new info and pics. Anyone excited? Hello? *echoes*

There's not really anything to be excited about yet.

I'm with you on this one GG, RS2 *should* be the nuts, considering development time, and the fact that Ubisoft cared enough about the game to change the team working on it and start from scratch.

So now we know that NGamer hasn't got a scoop for us this month, who wants to chat about what they'd like to see besides a general control and graphical improvement?

I'd like a new set of character's for a start - Don't get me wrong, I think Scott was a nice enough guy, but it would be nice to see a fresh story.  I can't actually remember how the RS1 ended =/

Level wise, It'd be nice to have a bit more freedom.  RS 1 was practicaly on the rails with an open space here and there.  It'd be nice to have the choice to either burst in through someone's front door and shoot the place up, or sneak up onto someone's balcony and slip in a window and quietly dispose of enemies as you go.

I've a few more ideas but it'd be ncie to hear others opinions too.

A new story would be good. They could even have Red Steel sequels not about continuing the story so much as focusing on the asian swords and guns theme.

A stealth kill system might work well. I mean they are using motionplus for swords, how about going the whole hog and using it for things like object manipulation or solving some puzzles to break up the pace a bit?

I want the sniper aiming and lean features from Medal of Honor heroes 2.

I get what you mean about the linear levels, because the controls were stodgy in retrospect, they designed the levels in a linear fashion. Simply improving the controls should allow the game to have more open levels.

I was just thinking again.

In July 2007 Ubisoft said that it had been in development for many months. Rumours are that the game is due out this winter.

So if we ignore the "many months" statement that means that NOW the game has been in development for almost two years, by Winter that will be 2 and a half years. Add in the many months statement that is a hell of a long time to be making this game. It makes sense given the cancelled version, but it also seems like a decent commitment to making this the game the first one should have been.

Some good thoughts.  Hadn't really thought of the linear levels being related to the controls but makes sense and I agree, the first game could have been awful if it'd been more free roaming with slow turning.

I wonder if they're pushing back the launch of RS2 due to the hype of the Conduit though, but Winter seems a way off still.

Lets hope they're not going to call it "Imagine: Red Steelz"

Red Steel 2 a western? GASP

Hmm, that could be really cool. I love western movies, and that setting hasn't been used much in games.

Or perhaps an eastern WinkWink

According to neogaf the game is cell shaded. The only drawback I see so far is that Ubi is making it.

Oh shit, what have they done. Cel-shading doesn't sell firstly. And I liked the style of the first game. And a western? It better have orientals in it like these recent Japanese and Korean western movies. It better be as good as this (watch-this)

But part of what I liked was that it was in a modern day setting and not some futuristic sci-fi genericness and not some timesplitters style western throwback. I want to be in modern day cities, in Japan or somewhere else. I'm not happy so far.

Oddly enough, the new aesthetic approach has raised my interest in the game.

Got to admit I like the art so far.  Not the Steampunk direction I thought it was going to be at first, but I like it all the same.  Looks like it's starting to feel like Six String Samuari now.

Did you guys read the PR?

Today Ubisoft announced Red Steel 2, exclusively for the Wii(TM) system from Nintendo. Red Steel remains one of the most successful Wii titles and the only brand created specifically for the launch of the platform. Red Steel 2 is being developed by Ubisoft Paris and will be available for the 2009 holiday season.

Red Steel 2 returns with an artistic style and flair created just for Wii. Set in a desert-bound, high-tech metropolis, Red Steel 2 is a revolution in the action-fighting genre, taking full advantage of the capabilities of the Wii MotionPlus(TM) accessory. Your movements are faithfully replicated on-screen, putting the emphasis on swinging, shooting and fun! With the ability of the Wii MotionPlus to sense the strength of a swing, you will literally be able to make an impact on your adversaries through power and precision.

“Red Steel was a unique opportunity for Ubisoft to work in tandem with Nintendo to create a title exclusively for the launch of the Wii console,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing US at Ubisoft. “Red Steel 2 is another milestone for the company as it is the first Ubisoft title with full Wii MotionPlus integration.”

Just as Red Steel broke ground as the only third-party brand created for the launch of the Wii, Red Steel 2 will be the must-have game of Holiday 2009 for those who wish to stretch their own capacities and fully experience a game that was built from the ground up to take advantage of the Wii MotionPlus.

More details on Red Steel 2 will be revealed in the June issue of Nintendo Power magazine. For more information on Red Steel 2, please visit www.redsteel2.com.

The NOM mag cover calls it a slash em up? So is it a FPS or what? Also the city is futuristic so will it have the art from the cancelled version (pics on page 1 of this thread)

Futuristic Western?

I was hoping it was going to be set in the past, but this will work too. A cell shaded futuristic samurai western does sound very interesting.  Happy

I wonder if this will set a trend. Sequels using the name and then just going wild with whatever the hell they want. Red Steel 3, as long as it has guns and sword they do whatever the hell they want?

Tropical Island Steel.

Dino Island Steel.
